Town Recall Martin From Charlton
Town Recall Martin From Charlton
Tuesday, 18th Jan 2011 16:07

Town have recalled midfielder Lee Martin from his loan spell at Charlton. The 23-year-old was due to remain with the Addicks until the end of the season.

The former Manchester United man made 19 starts and six sub appearances in his half-season at the Valley.

Last week, new manager Paul Jewell said everyone at the club would be given a clean slate, including those currently on spells elsewhere: "I’ll have to take a view on the players who are out on loan, the loan players that we have here and the players that are here full-time. No one’s out of the door, no one’s in the door.”

Strikers Pablo Couñago and Kevin Lisbie remain on loan at Crystal Palace and Millwall respectively. As with Martin, the Blues have a 24-hour recall on Lisbie but matters are more complicated with the Spaniard where his return depends on all three parties - the clubs and the player - agreeing to end his time at Selhurst Park early.

One-time Wimbledon trainee Martin joined the Blues for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.6 million in the summer of 2009 but failed to make an impact in his first season at Portman Road, netting once in 10 starts and eight sub appearances.

The Taunton-born wideman or striker, who had loan spells with Royal Antwerp, Rangers, Stoke, Plymouth, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest while at Old Trafford, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2013.

Elsewhere, former Blue Darren Bent has completed his move from Sunderland to Aston Villa for a fee of £18 million rising to £24 million once add-ons have been taken into consideration.

Makes sense. We have been woefully short of midfielders the last couple of games.

Maybe a new manager will bring him a new lease of life?! He HAD the talent when he was a youth at United so fingers crossed its still in there somewhere just waiting to be released!!

Hopefully under Jewell he can realise some of the potential he showed as a teenager as he did nothing in his last spell here. Infact, he was positively shocking out on that left hand side. I hope he has grown a pair since he went to Charlton and will get stuck in for us.

Guess this makes Civellis return even less likely now?

Scored 3 goals in 14 games. Did reasonably OK for Charlton.

Let's hope Jewell can get the best out of him...makes sense to have another look under a new manager rather than chucking money around needlessly.

Give him a chance, lways had potential just no end product but Jewell might get it out of him like a championship Valencia possibly :P Aslong as he DOESNT bring back Counago and Lisbie I will be happy.

To be fair, he did get stuck in for us in his short spell here Clive but I think he panicked into wanting to be an overnight superstar. Hopefully he will be a bit calmer this time around. I think he will make the grade.

Nice one Jimmy, put your arm round him and get us some return on Keane's rather misguided investment (given that he couldn't man manage his way out of a paper bag).

This will be interesting, no harm in recalling him I suppose. Now bring back Pablo!

legoman i agree and i also think Keane put that kind of pressure on his players too. This really is make or break for his career. Also if Charlton want him they will have to buy him, maybe that is a tactic we are looking at? The lad must have been good to stay with Man U through his early years, they dont take any old rubbish, lets just hope he can recreate it. Fans must give him a chance though, some slagging him off already on here - ok if he comes back and fails then we will all know he isnt for us! I agreed he was not good first time around, showed the odd glimpse of what he could do but never an end result.

We recalled him because Powell didn't want to him at Charlton, no point him being on loan there if he wont play is it. Same as the Fallon situation, new manager new ideas

Keaneish added 16:37 - Jan 18
He's been poor for us but the right decision given it's a new era and our lack of fully fit left sided players!

maybe his time at charlton helped him and plus we need a left midfielder he will play or be on the bench for either shane o'conoor or wickham
All the best
Lee
