Wednesday, 9th Feb 2011 22:10

Tamás Priskin and Márton Fülöp each played for 45 minutes as Hungary beat Azerbaijan 2-0 in Dubai this evening. Elsewhere, Gareth McAuley and Northern Ireland lost to Scotland and Troy Brown and Josh Carson faced one another in an U21 friendly.

Priskin started, winning his 31st cap, and was replaced a the break having been unable to add to his eight international goals. Fülöp played the second half and won his 23rd.

Gareth McAuley was at centre-half and played the full 90 minutes for Northern Ireland as they lost their first Carling Nations Cup match 3-0 to Scotland in Dublin. It was the former Leicester and Lincoln man’s 26th appearance for his country.

Town assistant manager Chris Hutchings has spent the last couple of days in the Irish capital watching the tournament’s two games.

Elsewhere, Troy Brown played the full 90 minutes and won his second cap as the Wales U21s beat academy midfielder Josh Carson and Northern Ireland's U21s 2-0 at Wrexham.

Carson was making his first start for the Northern Irish youngsters - his one previous cap having been from the bench - and played the first 45 minutes before being replaced.

Can confirm that this is incorrect, Fulop played the second half for sure, but I don't think he played the first i.e for Fulop, the article is the wrong way round (correct for Priskin though)

Oops, you're right, amended. In my defence Hungarian's not my strongest language.

No probs mate, feel like I have contributed in some way to the community now!

I watched the game on an online feed, but I don't know what the commentators were saying - They weren't speaking my strongest language either!!

Not bad 31st cap for a 23/24 (?) year old? How old is marton anyone?

@PhilTWTD - waits for the "Hungarian tutor required" ad to be included in the website. My history in Hungary is arriving on NYE, getting drunk, getting lucky and spending most the the rest of the week in my hotel. I suspect the few words I picked up may be of little use. ;)

My Hungarian colleague has just translated Priskin and Fulops newspaper ratings for me! Please see the below:

Priskin Tamás (5): He was not particulary active, only drew attention when he got a yellow card. That is also true that he was left alone in the Azerbaijani defense

Fülöp Márton (7): Came in for the second half, he had to do more than Kiraly in the first half, he performed 2 great saves after free kicks.

So, Priskin did nothing despite being unmarked all game. Hmm.

Sorry for late reply.

Of what I saw (approx. 50 mins, 30-75/80) nither 'keeper had a lot of work to do, ball was in the centre of the park a lot. One team would then press forward and pass the ball around the edge of the 18 yard line a few times, followed by a break by the other team, who went on to do the same for a couple of mins, then the ball went back to the midfield again, and repeat ad nauseam. In short, neither Priskin nor Fulop were in positions where a lot of the game took place.
