Swans Make Scotland Approach
Swans Make Scotland Approach

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that his club has approached Town regarding the loan signing of striker Jason Scotland. The 31-year-old is keen to play first team football and the Blues have told him that they wouldn’t stand in his way if his former club wanted him to return.

Despite his chairman Huw Jenkins saying there had been no contact between the clubs yesterday, Rodgers says talks have begun regarding the loan switch: "I have had a conversation with Paul Jewell and our chairman has had a chat with their chief executive Simon Clegg.

"There is a deal there to be done and we have put a proposal to them. We are now waiting to hear back from them to see what they think.

"We hope we can come to an agreement because Jason is a player who has proved himself capable of scoring goals at this level and for this club."

The Swans' proposal will probably see them pay a proportion of Scotland's wages during a spell back in South Wales which is likely to last until early May - but not covering the play-offs - with moves at this stage of the season limited to 93 days.

The striker agreed a two-year deal with the Blues when he signed for £750,000 from Premier League Wigan last summer. He has made 22 starts and seven sub appearances for Town, scoring seven goals, all at Portman Road.

Scotland, who is yet to make a start under Paul Jewell’s management, enjoyed a hugely successful spell with the Swans between 2007 and 2009, scoring 53 goals in 91 starts and 14 sub appearances.

Yesterday, the Trinidad and Tobago international said he would love to return to the Liberty Stadium if the clubs could agree a deal.

Town’s willingness to allow the Trinidadian to leave would suggest that manager Paul Jewell has a striking target in mind, having narrowly failed to land Swindon’s Charlie Austin during the transfer window, the 21-year-old eventually joining Burnley.

Aside from Austin, the only other striker mentioned in connection with Town since Jewell took over as manager was Peterborough’s Craig Mackail-Smith, who the new Blues boss watched in action shortly after taking the job at Portman Road.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of former Town and Swansea striker Shefki Kuqi until the end of the season. The Finnish international is a free agent and available outside the transfer window having left the Swans during January.

Ex-Town left-back Neil Thompson has joined Gary Megson's new backroom staff at Sheffield Wednesday as a coach. Thompson was until recently working at Leeds as their academy manager.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish was at Chesterfield's B2net Stadium on Tuesday night, reportedly to watch Town striker Connor Wickham and Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha in action for England's U19s as they lost 1-0 to Germany in a friendly.

This is a joke surely. We buy him for 750k and we still have to pay part of his wages! If he wants to go that much and Swansea want him then he should at least be prepared to take a pay cut and Swansea should make us an offer.

Alternatively he could get himself fit and play a part for the team that only a few months ago gave him very generous terms. Why does this guy think he has a devine right to get into the team anyway, it makes my blood boil.

Wouldn't it be Ironic if he goes on to score the goals that secure Swansea 6th place with us in 7th!

JS is obvioulsy not up for the fight , regards keeping / getting a 1st team place. His whole body language , since his arrival here, has been one of "cant be arsed".

He's overweight , slow and dare I even say lazy in appearance. Id say cheerio Jason "thanks" , but I think your body clock for the professional game at this level has actually finally wound down....tick...tick....tick.. Go and "tread time" at Swansea - we certainly wont miss you !

If he helps push Norwich out of the top 6 whats is the problem.

He's been poor here, and if the argument is we should not let him go due to the money we payed for him, that would mean we would never get rid of the Keane flops, best cut to our losses and get him off the wage bill.

jason scotland, the best weve ever had????? sorry , but some people are deluded if they really believe that. paul jewell, thankfully ur n ot the real pj as y clearly bereft of football nous. js is the 1 who actually wants 2 go, so why would pj stand in his way. frankly, ne player who doesnt want 2 b here can leave as far as im concerned. while there are certain players we dont want 2 lose, (js not 1 of them), we not got ne player who cant be replaced.

Looks as if Swansea manager wants the player - but the swansea higheracrchy dont want to shell out for his wages.

Oh well looks like JS is here until the summer then. Problem is , he patently doesnt want to be at Town now , cos he cant be guarenteed a 1st team slot , and the player wants it handed to him on a plate rather than knuckle down , get fot, andf fight for his place like all the other players in the squad.

I think Scotland has actually been very impatient, saying the new boss has come in and I've not had a chance. But when you look at the games Jewell has been here, arsenal at home wasn't even his side yet abduction it worked anyway, I can't imagine Scotland slotting away priskins chance. Millwall, priskin (rival to Scotland upfront) scored, ok we lost but you don't change a winning team, especially when they've just beaten arsenal. Doncaster we won, derby again you don't change a winning team, with the exception of Bullard, we won. Sheffield utd ditto. I don't know how he can be so petulant about it. Does he not understand that if a team is playing well and winning chances are you won't get back into the starting 11 again straight away. Anyway this is irrelevant as he doesnt seem to be Jewells type of player (doesn't move unless the ball is within 5 yards) and he it seems he'd rather be at swansea anyway. As long as we got a good replacement fair enough let him go.

Scotland scored 7 goals in a losing side playing upfront on his own with little or no support from a negative side who were scared to cross halfway line in case Keane shouted at them . He would score goals for us now given the chance with the way we are playing ,think letting him go is a big mistake ,he should be playing
