Bullard: Best Decision of My Career
Bullard: Best Decision of My Career
Thursday, 28th Apr 2011 07:51

Loan midfielder Jimmy Bullard says joining Town in January was the best move of his career. The 32-year-old is with the Blues until the end of the season with manager Paul Jewell having already spoken to Hull City about his possible return in the summer.

Bullard told the club site that he’s loved his time at Town: "I've really enjoyed it here. As I have said before, as soon as I walked into the dressing room I knew it was the right decision. You are never sure about things when you join a new club but it felt right.

"I have never been on loan before, even at 32, but coming here has been the best thing I have done in my whole career.

"I have scored some goals, helped win a few games, made some new mates and played for a great football club, and this is a great football club. The fans have been brilliant to me as well.

"I'm not sure where I will be next year, but put it this way though, I wouldn't be disappointed if it was here."

The former England call-up has two years remaining on his Tigers deal which is worth £45,000-a-week, 21% of their wage bill.

Town will hope to be able to do a deal with Hull which will end the former Wigan, Peterborough and Fulham man’s time at the KC Stadium, although there could also be interest from Premier League sides with Championship leaders QPR already linked.

what ever happens its been an honor and a pleasure having him here, if he goes he should go with all our best wishes because he has given so much to the cause, Paul Jewell has taken alot of credit for our upturn in fortunes but i believe that its also no coincidence that since Jimmy has been here things have improved such is the impact he has had on and off the field, huge credit to him. I really hope he stays. He gets my vote for player of the season based not on the time he has been here but I dont think anyone has had such an influence this season as Jimmy, iv known players come on at half time and get man of the match so why not.

I have no doubts either that he WON'T be an Ipswich player next season - the same old waffle we hear from players who will be going else where!

This sounds to me that if he dosen't get other offers then he will come back but if a lower prem club come in he'll go there and who could blame him really.

Morning gents, Hull fan browsing.

Just thought you should know that Adam Pearson(Director of Football Operations) stated at the weekend that no approach had been made by Ipswich with regard to Jimmy Bullard(or by any other club for that matter), so this article is slightly wide of the mark.

In addition, our new owner has stated that he has no intention of paying the wages of a player who's playing for another club, so it looks like another season with a subsidised loan is highly unlikely.

We don't expect to ever see him play for us again, but for that to happen, we really need a Premier League club to come in for him, with QPR looking the most likely. He would certainly be available on a free, to compensate for the daft wages he's on(wages he won't reduce, whatever he says), or he may even get a bit of a pay-off to make a deal happen, but I'd suggest that you getting him for season, while only paying half his wages, simply won't happen.

A revelation since he joined us, just the type of player we need on a permanent basis, hope to see him in a Town shirt next season, fingers crossed!!!

Clegg may at last prove his worth with an offer to tempt JB to stay on after finishing his football career at Portman Road and work in PR with corporate clients. Remember he said JB is good with these sorts.

You heard it here first.

would be a great decision for him if we are daft enough to pay him huge wages for the next 3 years, best we can hope for is 25-30 games per season

"I have never been on loan before, even at 32, but coming here has been the best thing I have done in my whole career."

Is that right Jimmy, me old mucker? I would have thought the best thing you ever did in your career was signing for HCFC on a deal worth £12m over 5 years. But, Oh yeah, that's right, it's not about the money with you, is it?

How disrespectful are your comments to your parent club? A Club that has paid you a kings ransome for 3 years in return for 24 games. Lets see, that's not far off £300,000 a game. A club that, when on it's financial knees, you refused to leave even though you would have maintained your pay.

And for all you Town fans that jump to his defence because he loves Portman Road so much, you watch what happens if he has a choice between playing for you or DQPR next season.

Jimmy, you and we have been unlucky with your injury problems over the last 3 years and nobody forced our previous, cretinous owners to offer you a ridiculous contract. But that is no reason to snub the fans whose club you are currently making crass comments about.

Enjoy the money Jim, even though it's not what motivates you. Just like one of your former teamates, Geovanni, who tore up his contract when we were relegated, we will always remember you, just not for the same reason.

@amberandblack Not defending Jimmy, but I would not hold it against him if he choose QPR over us....last chance in the Premier League and all that.

All I know that his made a crappy season for us a little bit better and earned a few points for us along the way.

It is interesting that the club has put itself under pressure regarding Bullard. Sign him and it shows ambition, possibly a lever for other similar players to join as well. Not sign him (for whatever reason) and the club will take stick for whoever it signs.

I hope we get the opportunity this Saturday to thank Bullard for providing us with a glimpse of a quality player in our team again, something we have not seen for many seasons. He has shown what we need, but will Evans and Clegg buy into it?

[Agent]: "Jimmy, go make some comments about how "great" the club is–stir the fans up to put more pressure on the club to sign you, so as to raise your value."
[Jimmy]: "OK"
[Twenty minutes later.]
[Jimmy]: "Sorted."
[Agent, rubbing hands with glee]: "Excellent. Now I'm off to drop hints that QPR are interested."

Speaking as a Hull City Supporter, I like Jimmy, he is a terrific player, gifted and enthusiastic. however due to an bad run of injuries he never really got a chance here.

He is on an incredibly over paid contract which is not his fault it is totally down to the poor and inept financial mismanagement we had to endure here under the last owners which brought our club to within days of financial ruin. As a result a sensible wage structure has been put in place by the new owners and we simply can't afford to pay Jimmy anymore as it would upset the current pay structure and cause disharmony in the squad. I hope he does come to you as I would love to see Jimmy playing at his best as he is great to watch and Ipswich seem to be getting the best out of him.

Due to the well documented financial mess we found ourselves in and Jimmy's unwillingness to take a pay cut in addition to the fact he was not playing because of injuries he rapidly turned from hero to villain.

A deal to send Jimmy to you would be great for all concerned, as long as you got his wage demands sorted, no wants wants to see any club in the sort of financial mess we were in.

Good luck for next season.

Sorry but I just don't buy this! I see all these comments from Jimmy to be only to keep the door open for any eventualities (and don't get me wrong - I completelly agree with that approach. I would do the same). He may be in a position to be pushed to join us so he has to talk good about Town. But in reality his situation is to stay for an year or so at that salary that he will never be able to get anywhere else or go for a much smaller wages. Even though he is constantly saying he likes to play and money is not that important the fact is that it will be a huge cut and not more than 1 in a 100 will agree with it. So I think he will do his best to keep his wages for as long as possible. Only if Hull somehow push him away we have a chance....

People, if he does go, please do not turn on him as happened with Franny Jeffers (as referred to above). Rather different situation, given the contract JB is on already and the options he may have (Prem rather than rival Championship club).

IMO he's been too much of a ray of sunshine (on and off the field) in a rather dismal season to end up being slagged off because he opted not to stay.

TractorBeezer added 14:47 - Apr 28
Must say that bringing in JB has been one of the few bright spots of the season. Another is Paul Jewell...yet to be fully proven but I have confidence in him)...who was the influential factor to sign JB for the latter part of the season.
I certainly hope that we can get JB to stay for another 2 years...if the deal is right. Do we know if there is any subsatnce to the reported QPR interest?

brogansnose added 15:20 - Apr 28
If he goes, which is more likely than not, then someone who can do what he does is essential. Cheers Jimmy.

The one thing we can be pretty certain about is that JB won't be on Hull's books next season.Hull will probably let him go on a free but that would involve us paying him a large signing on fee (to compensate for his large drop in wages)
QPR might well want him but would he want them (Warnock,Tarabt etc )and probably spending half the season on the bench.Lets put the boat out and offer him the club captaincy - he has obviously enjoyed himself here and equally obviously likes and respects PJ.

Great lad, I fear his comments are suggesting he may be elsewhere, a real shame I feel with him for a whole season he'd gain us several extra points on his own, add in some other decent newbies and we wouldn't be too far away from mounting a challenge.

alfromcol :- I've been banging on for weeks now about offering Jimmy a deal which would include him in some sort of hospitality job with us after he hangs up his boots and :-
RRanger :- I've also been punting the thought about offering him the captaincy, SHOULD Norris decide to leave.
These add-ons, [ although not by themselves ] could be deciding factors in whether he stays or goes . Good to read some are on the same wavelength !
