Bullard Took Pay Cut to Join Town - And Would Do So Again
Bullard Took Pay Cut to Join Town - And Would Do So Again
Wednesday, 11th May 2011 12:51

Town Player of the Year Jimmy Bullard has revealed he took a pay cut to join the Blues on loan from Hull City in January. The midfielder has also reiterated his desire to rejoin Town for next season, again saying he would sign a deal today if one was put in front of him.

Bullard, who has told Hull head of football operations Adam Pearson that he would like to be with the Blues next season, says he’d be willing to take a reduction on his £45,000-a-week Tigers wage to be back at Portman Road for 2011/12: “It was not previously known but I took a pay cut to join Ipswich in January and I would be happy to play for Ipswich next season on the same arrangements.

“In fact, if that deal was on the table now I would sign it. I gather from what I was told that Hull do not have me in their plans because of the financial situation.

“I told them that I wanted to stay with Ipswich as I have loved it at Portman Road, but I have a feeling that Hull will wait and see if they can get a better deal.

“As it is me that will be at the centre of this quandary, I want to have an input and I have made my feelings known. I don’t know of any other clubs being interested.”

Bullard has two years left on his contract at Hull and that could mean that a further loan may be more likely than a permanent deal with Town or another party. Premier League clubs are said to be interested with QPR having been regulars at Portman Road in recent months and West Ham and Wigan linked by one of this morning’s tabloids.

The 32-year-old, who says a shoulder injury was the main reason he missed a couple of matches towards the end of the season rather than his knee, was delighted with the way his Player of the Year award-grabbing spell with the Blues progressed: “It is nearly three years since I last played so many games together.”

Bullard became a favourite both with fans and team-mates while at Portman Road and is going away on a long weekend in Spain with other members of the squad. Later in the summer, he’s heading off to play some golf in the Algarve.

Manager Paul Jewell is also keen to get a deal done as soon as possible but admits that it will be difficult.

He knocked a few grand off his wages, you're still paying him £20k a week and so are we, if Jimmy expects us to do the same next season he's bonkers.

Actually, he is bonkers.

Anyway, the balls in your court Jimmy, you can leave with no fee, just agree whatever terms you want with Ipswich and you leave with our blessing. But, if you want us to pay you £1m a year to play elsewhere, then you'll have to expect City to try and find you a new home.

Our owners have said they won't repeat this deal next season, so it's time to put up or shut up Jimmy.

As the player can refuse any loan then Jimmy will get an input
Hull might want better offers but if player does not want to go he does not have too.
lets hope he wants to be with PJ

What a disrespectful clown Bullard is, making these kinds of statements about his parent club.

As for pay-cut, don't make me laugh!! We were paying him £45k a week. He had in his contract an appearance agreement where he would receive an extra £2k a week. When he went to Ipswich he agreed to waive that because the appearances were for another club. BIG DEAL!!! On £45k and agrees to forego an extra £2k, that's not even enough to fund his annual trip to Las Vegas!!

No wonder he's willing to come and play for you again under the same conditions!! Well dream on you thick waster, that aint going to happen again!

Lambrettaman & AmberAndBlack Whatever you say about JB he can simply sit tight and continue to take his FULL wages from Hull for a further 2 seasons. The club (perhaps foolishly) signed the current contract with him. He does not have to go anywhere, even if Hull get 30 bids for him. The power and law is with the player on this one.

My understanding is that the club can't just sell him or loan him out to another club without the full agreement of the player. Unless they buy out the remainder of his contact.

It seems most of us town fans have no confidence in our wonderfull Mr Clegg. How can everthing point in the right direction and yet feel so far off if at all. We need this man in our club. SIMPLE

Hull City fan in peace.

Jimmy has been clever with his wording here. Technically speaking he could have received even more than his £45k a week if he had stayed with us and IF we had played him. I think this is an important fact as some of your fans are reading into this article that Jimmy was only getting say £30k a week.

We are now owned by a local businessman who is worth just a few quid less than the Queen so it is not that we cannot afford Jimmy as such, it is more that we want to run a tight ship with realistic contracts etc.

Personally I hope this is sorted out quickly and that he signs for you permanently asap. However, don't be fooled by any of the 'it's not about money' rhetoric. He won't go anywhere where he isn't paid the same as he is due whatever he says in public.

Jimmy is a tart.. He says what you wanna hear

His motivation is cash and to be in the limelight, Ipswich Town dont really offer any of these commodities..

We want 100% of his salary off our books not 40%.. Therefore its in our interests to hold out until 31st August if necessary..

He is a legend in my eyes already after those comments.

If Jimmy is a tart thats fine by me, he is a tart that is more than worth having at this club. It's just a shame you feel so negative about this man. As far as I am concerned he's well worth watching.

WE know that Billy because we have heard it over and over from him. The ITFC fans are still in the honeymoon period and think he just wants to play football which is laughable when you know what we all know about him. (His Celtic £70k a week demand even though they wanted to play him, off field activities etc).

if he signed should be captian a true leader

I think he knows more about his interests and how much he's getting paid than the flood of Hull fans suddenly appearing here. You know nothing so shut up and stop acting like you know what goes on behind the scenes.

Bloody hell ,Hull city forum shut down or something ? dont rcall all this coming from other supporters when weve wanted to sign a player.

That's funny, I thought it was a message board discussing current football issues? Considering a large number of your news articles and forum threads seem to be about OUR player I don't think it unreasonable that fans of HIS club come on and tell you a bit about him.

If you want to sit in a bubble and talk amongst yourselves about that honourable wonderfully humble chap Jimmy then good for you. I'm sure we were also warned by the Fulham fans when we signed him but we didn't listen either. I hope he enjoys his time at QPR.
