Scotland Linked With Brighton
Scotland Linked With Brighton
Tuesday, 21st Jun 2011 17:51

Town striker Jason Scotland has been linked with a summer move to Brighton and Hove Albion. The 32-year-old is already on Sheffield Wednesday’s wish list but a switch to the newly-promoted Seagulls would almost certainly appeal more than a drop into League One with the Owls.

Scotland appears unlikely to be viewed as a first choice at Town next season with Michael Chopra and now Nathan Ellington joining the Blues.

The Trinidad and Tobago international scored 10 goals in 35 starts and 10 sub appearances last season, having signed from Wigan for £750,000 in August, but failed to convince new manager Jewell that he is the man to fire the Blues back into the Premier League and his days at Portman Road appear numbered.

Scotland, who has a year left on his Town contract, was close to returning to his former club Swansea on loan in February but the move broke down after the clubs were unable to agree a financial package.

If they firm up their apparent interest, Brighton, like Wednesday, may also have trouble matching Scotland’s current terms with the former Dundee United and Dunfermline man likely to be on a significant wage having joined the Blues from a Premier League club.

I'd quite like to keep him because I think he could prove fine cover for the remaining year, but if it frees up wages we can spend on full-backs and whatnot then he's probably technically surplus to requirements.

Please God let them find the funds.

Ellington and Scotland goal to game ratio is much the same, but Ellington seems to be more of an all rounder than Scotland

Feel we will not miss Scotland now, If we keep Wickham which looks more and more likely now

If we targeted another Sharp or Maynard type player then i feel we could let Priskin go too as 9 in 60 is not a good return

Scotlands recent goal record is far better than Ellingtons. However, clearly either Priskin or Scotland will move on this Summer - and it would seem that Scotland is the one attracting the interest. Personally, and as I have said before, I think Scotland has been unlucky - playing in a negative one up as a very isolated striker simply doesn't suit him. Doesn't have the pace. He scores goals in a 4-4-2 and for me is better than Ellington.

Although Priskin's skills are the more entertaining to watch I too agree with jas0999
I doubt either club will find the funds though. I reckon it will be another established Championship club that buys him unless he is prepared to take the drop in wages. I think Scotland does a job for us in an unsuited role and is unfairly criticised, whereas Priskin does not give me confidence (despite his skill) that he has any thing by way of end product.

I agree with the comments that Scotland has been unlucky - playing on his own up front simply didn't suit him, however he was more productive in a 442.

I'm not sure that either Scotland or Priskin would be involved too much next season, so would take any reasonable offers that came in for them...

i do think scotland is by far and away better than priskin. As said he needs a partner to play along side and can be deadly in the box with the right player and service

Too be honest, Ellington's arrival must be the final nail in the coffin for him. I cannot imagine Scotland here next year, even though he will still have uses. Having someone that wants to play regularly on 15000 a week on the bench does not look viable, even for us.

The tactics employed by Town during most of the season did not bring out the best in Scotland. If he leaves it will be interesting to see if he scores more than 10.

Scotland's past his best, can't see him getting much of a look in ahead of Chopra,Wickham & Ellington so he'd be better off moving on.

Hopefully some mug will take Priskin off us too.

He should go really
He's been unlucky as he clearly stated when he came that he wants to play in a 442
But he has been poor so see you Jason

Scotland is no doubt on big wages as another of Keane's Premier League buys and I don't think we will get value for money for what we pay him, so let's move him on. Ellington is 2.5 years younger and has a chance of recapturing old form, whereas I can't see Scotland improving as he will be a year older and didn't have the pace last year!

I am pleased with the signing of Ellington, who is after all a free transfer rather than a £750K signing like Scotland was. Okay, his recent goal scoring ratio isn't good but he did well in Greece's top league and remember that Preston wanted to keep him so he can't have been a total disaster there.

Mr Scotland i believe still could do the business for us in a 442 formation. Its Priskin we should be trying to offload. Scotland has a good eye for goal &, if keeps off the chimichanga,s, sheds a few pounds & gets some decent service has a role to play at our club next season.

is that the M74 or the Caledonian canal?

Agree that Scotland was played out of position and was never going to shine as a target man for the hoofball we were playing. Couldn't have done his confidence much good.

it's not often i laugh out load, that's rougly equivalent to the "Building Suppliers League" and given their economy probably not worth as much financially.

Preston are a 3rd division team and ask any Watford fan what they think of him. Perhaps Orwell is going to do a new book, From Wigan Pier to Southwold's

Pinewoodblueboy :- Agree. I believe with better service we may have seen a better Jason Scotland. Priskin, not for me.

PJ has a reputation for liking his squad to be super fit, so maybe Scotland will come back to pre-season training in peak form and having lost a couple of stone !! I'm sure his pace would improve with less weight to carry. I'm sure I read somewhere that the squad had been given individual fitness programs to complete during their break from training, so I'm hoping we will see a much fitter, faster, stronger bunch of players this coming season.
