Evans Linked Again
Evans Linked Again
Saturday, 16th Jul 2011 23:54

Town are again being linked with Sheffield United striker Ched Evans. The Blues have been mentioned in connection with the 22-year-old Wales international on a number of occasions since May.

Boss Paul Jewell is reported to be looking to land the 6ft tall frontman for £1 million from the newly-relegated Blades. Evans was previously chased by former manager Roy Keane prior to his £3 million July 2009 move to the Blades from Manchester City.

As a schoolboy, Evans was with Chester City but moved on to the Citizens in 2002 when the Deva Stadium club's youth set-up closed.

The St Asaph-born striker made his senior debut for Manchester City in September 2007 in a Carling Cup tie against Norwich City, who he joined on loan in the following November with his opportunities at Eastlands having been limited to five starts and 15 sub appearances, which yielded one goal.

In six months at Carrow Road, the Welshman made 20 starts and eight games from the bench, scoring 10 goals, one of those against the Blues in a 2-1 Town win at Portman Road.

For Wales, he has won 13 caps at full level, scoring two goals, having netted nine in nine for the U21s and one in four for the U19s.

Evans, who has one year remaining on his £15,000-a-week Blades contract, had a difficult first season at Bramall Lane, scoring only four games in 23 starts and 13 matches as a substitute.

Despite Sheffield United’s poor 2010/11, Evans enjoyed a better campaign, scoring nine times in 27 starts and eight sub appearances. Even so, he is likely to be available for a fee significantly lower than the one the Blades paid for him. Tony Mowbray and Middlesbrough and Norwich were also linked earlier in the summer.

Town boss Paul Jewell recently lodged a bid for a striker and as of Thursday was still waiting to hear back from the player's club. An offer for a winger has been turned down with rumours in Cardiff this evening linking Peter Whittingham with Town.

Got home from work and turned on the computer and it's the same headline as 48 hours ago. Now this aint down to phil this is no dought down to there being no news released by the powers that be at portman road.I hope this means a double or triple reveal say, whittingham, evans and bullard ,this is just a suggestion as i know bullard is only coming back to portman road with an away team.Just be patient the news will come and I have a feeling it will be good.

I think anyone who knocks this site are idiots. I even enjoy the likes of garv and the guy with the toilet in his avatar moaning...however, if we signed a whittingham or a sharp would enjoy that even more!

Some of the best transfers have been those which are kept quiet, if that is the case then I don't blame PJ. Otherwise others may muscle in.

Got to say that at least we have some players in our side who people won't want to play against thats for sure. As for those who have posted where we will finish, we are not good enough etc before a ball is even kicked are mad. Quietly confident that we will pushing the others this year as we have actually got some goal scorers and strength in the middle. As for the ages, average age of 25 which we did have won't get promotion.

In Jewell we trust and fingers crossed for an announcement.

ME & PJ should read this site to pick up some top tips from us all! If you do read this ME & PJ please look at Jonathan Spector, 25 years old, experienced premiership player, can play across the back and in midfield and he is available on a free and no I am not his agent.

A target man is they key for us to feed chops but even if he only gets 10 goals a season he can play the Scowcroft or Naylor role for us. Never were prolific but important team members in their time and contributed what they required

at the moment our centre-half pairing are Delaney and Smith. is that going to be good enough? also i havent seen CARSON play yet - is he more of a winger or attacking mdfielder? kind of Mark Brennan -esque?

Mark Brennan..a good player for the town in the past!!!!!
I think Ched Evans maybe a good signing, if these rumours turn out to be true and we do sign him..fresh start at the town..point to prove...Jewell will want to see the hunger and commitment from him i'm sure..but the age he is, he surely would be a worthwhile punt...would certainly make the competition for striker options interesting with chops, the duke, tamas and scotland...time will tell tho with all these rumours....COYB!!!!!!!!!!
