Evans Linked Again
Evans Linked Again
Saturday, 16th Jul 2011 23:54

Town are again being linked with Sheffield United striker Ched Evans. The Blues have been mentioned in connection with the 22-year-old Wales international on a number of occasions since May.

Boss Paul Jewell is reported to be looking to land the 6ft tall frontman for £1 million from the newly-relegated Blades. Evans was previously chased by former manager Roy Keane prior to his £3 million July 2009 move to the Blades from Manchester City.

As a schoolboy, Evans was with Chester City but moved on to the Citizens in 2002 when the Deva Stadium club's youth set-up closed.

The St Asaph-born striker made his senior debut for Manchester City in September 2007 in a Carling Cup tie against Norwich City, who he joined on loan in the following November with his opportunities at Eastlands having been limited to five starts and 15 sub appearances, which yielded one goal.

In six months at Carrow Road, the Welshman made 20 starts and eight games from the bench, scoring 10 goals, one of those against the Blues in a 2-1 Town win at Portman Road.

For Wales, he has won 13 caps at full level, scoring two goals, having netted nine in nine for the U21s and one in four for the U19s.

Evans, who has one year remaining on his £15,000-a-week Blades contract, had a difficult first season at Bramall Lane, scoring only four games in 23 starts and 13 matches as a substitute.

Despite Sheffield United’s poor 2010/11, Evans enjoyed a better campaign, scoring nine times in 27 starts and eight sub appearances. Even so, he is likely to be available for a fee significantly lower than the one the Blades paid for him. Tony Mowbray and Middlesbrough and Norwich were also linked earlier in the summer.

Town boss Paul Jewell recently lodged a bid for a striker and as of Thursday was still waiting to hear back from the player's club. An offer for a winger has been turned down with rumours in Cardiff this evening linking Peter Whittingham with Town.

I would rather get Evans for a million than pay 3 mill for Sharp.

Billy Sharp...Billy Sharp...Billy Sharp, for god's sake Donny refused us 1..2..3..4 times, and the player has not released a statement saying that he's frustrated that he's not being able to move to Ipswich the club of his dreams.
It is not going to happen..full stop!
The fact that PJ is going for Ched Evans does mean he has mended his broken heart over Billy Sharp and moved on to a player who may actually want to play for us.
But by all means all of those fans crying about their beloved Billy moan away that PJ isnt buying the 2.5m..3m..3.2m..?m pound striker (in all honesty how much is a championship/league one stiker worth these days) and is going for a player with height and at 22 years old he has decent potential as a target man for Chopra.
PLEASE WAKE UP BILLY BOY AINT COMING!!!

I think Billy Sharp will actually sign for Leeds Utd ,and not us . The player clearly states time and again he wont leave Yorkshire. Well he is welcome to stay in his home county for all I care. At £3m+ he is waaaaay overpriced IMO

couldnt quote any garv. been so many its hard to remember a specific 1. ha ha.oh dear tractamatt. guess someone somewhere had to bring up jordan rhodes. look, hes not coming back, not now, not ever i doubt, so get over it. dont reaslly understand why wed want him back neway. whether he had enough chances to show what he could do or not, it not definite hed have succeeded here. in fact, he couldnt even get in the huddersfield team towards the end of last season. wasnt even brought on in the playoff final till they were already 3 goals behind, & was the last of their strikers to come on too. not saying he wouldnt do a job, but no guarantee, & also, as a partner for chopra. i dont think so. not the type of striker we need for that task.

no,no,no - we are not allowed another youngster at the Club.
We have one already .........

Jordan Rhodes is not better than , and in many cases not even as good as the current strikers we currently have here. He lacks pace, and PJ is now after this element to round off the squad's credentials. I doubt very much that JR would be in Jewell's thoughts. Rhodes is currently at his optimum level I feel!

not sure what to make of this ched evans, sheff utd payed good cash for him failed to deliver, maybe pj could get best out of him, better than blowing a wad on sharp who realisticlly doesnt want to come here.as for this absolute rubbish link to whittingham he would only leave cardiff for premier league, why would he come to us.sideways move

........ Evans would be an ideal partner for Chopra - for that reason alone, it just won't happen ......

Can we make a list of the players we've been linked with? Ched Evans, Seam st Ledger, David Nugent, Billy Sharpe, ....

RetroBlue added 19:02 - Jul 17
would be easier to list those players we have NOT been linked to !

Most of you seem to live in cloud cuckoo land....
Garv isn't a negative poster btw...he's the most realistic poster on here.
Ched Evans is young but hasn't done anything in a while. He might be the best we can get at the moment. If Peter Whittingham joins us I will eat my hat...if Cardiff accept and offer Leicester/Blackpool/Hull etc would immediately offer the same amount of cash and swoop the prize.
Wish we would look a little further afield rather than trying to snap up the same players as everyone else. There are good players in the Portuguese/Greek leagues who would love to play in England but we can't even be bothered to investigate the possibilities. Some of the players in the top 6 of the Portuguese Superliga are getting less money than most of our squad. They would welcome the chance to play for us, and would be very capable. If we think they can't settle,-then bring in 3 of them at once! We've got to do something DIFFERENT to the other Championship Clubs around us. I for one am NOT excited about next season,- I think it will be ONCE AGAIN a mediocre season at best. Love the optimism guys but lets also have a bit of realism. When did we stop looking at what/who other clubs are signing? Some of the signings some of the other clubs in the league have made are nothing short of sensational. Blackpool and West Ham for me will go straight up- with Leicester winning the play-offs.

Why has Goodwillie dropped off everyone's radar? didn't Rangers stop their pursuit of him this week as he was in negotiations with a club from England?

I was speaking to Phil Ham (editor of TWTD) and he says that his Cardiff sources have told him that Ipswich Town have had a bid of 2.8 million accepted for Cardiff City winger Peter Whittingham. Apparantly he is keen to join ipswich as he is not impressed by the new managers ambitions and transfers.

Hope phils sources are good :D

Again from football rumours website but any truth in this Phil?

Goodwillie at court soon for his alleged involvement in an assault in a Glasgow Street late last year. Think a case involving his alleged rape of a woman from earlier this year awaits a court date also. Rangers heavily tipped to take him should the court cases go in his favour.

PJewellisaGod - good points and you are absolutely right - but our scouting system, like other areas of the Club now, is virtually NON existant.
Therefore these type of players will never be in the frame for this Club.
