Town Linked With Fleetwood Striker Sunday, 1st Jan 2012 19:33
The Blues, Birmingham and West Ham are reported to be amongst the leading contenders to sign Fleetwood Town striker Jamie Vardy. The Cod Army are claimed to have turned down a £1 million offer for the 24-year-old, who has previously been mentioned in connection with Celtic and Huddersfield.
Sheffield-born Vardy, who has scored 15 goals in the Blue Square Bet Premier this season, first made an impression with local Evo-Stik League Premier Division side Stocksbridge Park Steels having been released by Sheffield Wednesday as a teenager. He won a trial with Crewe and other Football League clubs before turning down a short-term deal with Rotherham.
The 5ft 10in tall frontman or winger joined FC Halifax Town in June 2010, scoring 24 league goals and winning the club’s Players’ Player of the Year as the Shaymen carried off the Evo-Stik League Premier Division title last season.
Vardy moved on to Fleetwood for an undisclosed fee believed to be £175,000 in August and has continued to score goals at a similar rate, winning the Blue Square Bet Premier Player of the Month for November and netting twice in today’s 6-0 victory at Southport.
Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Andros Townsend has joined Leeds on a similar basis from Tottenham for the rest of the season.

£1M for a player who turns 25 in ten days' time, and who hasn't yet made it into league football? Total joke. He isn't the Conference's top scorer either (joint third with 15 goals). Adam Le Fondre, prolific in League Two, went to Reading for only £300K at the age of 24.
I doubt very much a tuppenny ha'penny club like Fleetwood Town would turn down an offer of £1m : or that anyone playing at that level is worth even a tenth of that. So we'll see him at Portman Road later this month ...
Unless my information is totally incorrect, I think that Fleetwood are not a 'tuppenny ha'penny' club. I believe they are in the same league as Crawley Town FC with sponsors who have a very large financial resource and big ambitions. Fleetwood were one of the featured matches on '5 Live' in the earliers rounds of the Cup and Mr Vardy was outstanding.......
Come off it £1 mil,you got to be joking!!!!if this was true who in there right mind would take that much of a punt on a 24 year old who has never played in football league,I'm all for having a punt on younger lower level players but that much cash on him is crazy, more likely phils source still hungover from lastnight and got all his info wrong!!!
Fleetwood don't want to sell - and are backed by a multi-millionaire - hence the high figures being quoted. They see him as someone to fire them into the Football League. If a league club want to buy him - and several do because he is hot property at the moment - it will cost them. Although the fee being quoted is high, the wages will be a fraction of those of a Keith Andrews or Jimmy Bullard!
They bought him for £175k so would like to make a tidy profit but £1M far too much. Probably worth a punt at £400K, perhaps we could also offer Ellington and Priskin as part exchange!
Surely this is some kind of new years joke £1m for a non league player!!! Phil please update this report ASAP and say it is not true..... just for once i hope it is too far to come and live in Suffolk.... haha
His hair is similar to Balotelli's so maybe he's similar to him? If he is then let's get him for a million! Has anyone noticed tht Jordan Rhodes is League One top goalscorer and we let him go for 600k? Maybe we should've kept him don't ya think? :( :( :(
