Bowyer Injury Leaves Town Short of Central Midfield Options at Hull
Bowyer Injury Leaves Town Short of Central Midfield Options at Hull
Wednesday, 4th Jan 2012 14:38

Town have confirmed that midfielder Lee Bowyer is a doubt ahead of Saturday’s third round FA Cup tie at Hull City with the groin injury he suffered just before half-time during the home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Bowyer’s injury — which manager Paul Jewell said on Monday could sideline the 35-year-old for around a fortnight - leaves the Blues short of central midfield options with Keith Andrews — whose loan from Blackburn is up after Saturday’s match — unlikely to be back from his torn hamstring, although he has been given permission to play by his parent club.

Andy Drury is unavailable having played for loan club Crawley in the competition earlier in the season at a time when it appeared he was unlikely to be required by the Blues with the Blues then also having Colin Healy in their squad.

Jimmy Bullard could start alongside skipper Grant Leadbitter against his old club with the illness which forced him out of Monday’s match not expected to sideline him for too long, while Mark Kennedy or perhaps Luke Hyam could come into the 18.

Striker Jason Scotland may also be back after missing the last two games with a hamstring problem, although having been close to making it for both matches.

Midfielder Jaime Peters is available as he wasn't involved in the FA Cup with his loan club Bournemouth.

A hang-over is classed as an illness now is it?

Play the youngsters, give them a chance.

Jewell out.

For what it's worth, I would lke to see
ALB
Edwards, Sonko, Delaney, Cresswell
Hyam
Leadbitter, Bullard, Martin
JET
Murray

Hyam in the holding role would allow Cressy and Edwards license to get forward and JB will want to put on a performance against his old club

I agree that Lawrence + Wight could get some action from the bench. Would give the club and supporters a lift to see a promising young players get some game time. Lets see what all the fuss is about!!

No harm we have a cup game, gives Bullard and Bowyer more time to get fit for next league game. Plus its lets the squad players stake a claim. Ainsley may get a game or maybe Wight!

Newboy, you do not speak for real Town supporters, i have seen the glory days of Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby Robson the bad days of Jackie Milburn (and these were bad days) and John Duncan, the good times again under George Burley. i am not happy with what is going on at Portman road at present but i will still be there every match supporting the town because that is what a true football supporter does.
If people want to support a team that wins all the time suggest you switch to Man City or United because with Ipswich you are always going to get ups and downs.
Paul Jewell would not have been my choice after Keane as i thought he had been out the game to long but until Marcus Evans makes changes we have what we have, roll on the good times.

Murray has been VERY average in Div Two according to my Swindon pals, so no thanks to him coming in!

ALB--
Edwards---Sonko--Delaney--Cresswell--
Carson--Hyam--Bullard--Martin
---Chopra---Ellington---

bench: wright--ainsley--kennedy--JET--o'connor

leadboots can play for the opposition, that way he might end up helping us out with some attacking passing

Harrogate v Histon for anyone who can't stomach turning off onto M62 for Hull. Nicer place too.
It'll be of a similar standard to what we've been watching this season anyway.

tractorboybig we played younger players against Northampton earlier in the year. It achieved nothing, except a very poor performance after starting the season with a win away to Bristol City.

Teams need to build confidence and win at every opportunity. I am attending the game on the basis that PJ will put his strongest team out, and be looking for a win.

No repeat of the Northampton game please.

I think theres is a bipolar idiocy when it comes to including youth players, every time we play any we seem to stick the whole lot in at once. To bring through youth you need to blend them with experience like what happened under Burley.

Oh well, that's our season over by tea-time Saturday then .... well apart from the little matter of a relegation battle!

For God's sake get rid of Jewell and Clegg now. Let's get people in who really care for this club please!

All the moaners on here saying they don't care would probably be amongst the first trying to get tickets if we won on Saturday and drew a top Premiership side in the next round.

it amazes me that Hyam is not being played in the centre, much better choice than Bowyer. Carson can also play, left, right or centre as seen at academy matches and with much pace as youth prevails. Come on Jewell give the youth a chance!!!!!Can anyone name any youth academy players that are being brought through???I struggle to name any of them apart from Cody Cropper. I have been at academy matches where Carson was a stand out player and reserves matches where both Carson and JET scored and were the most active and definately proved that they wanted to wear the shirt. Youth needs to be coming through or there is no need for the Academy.

Well said CornardBlue - I am as fed up as anyone but I will always be there to support my club- I am not sure that PJ is the right man, but I dont think a change now would do much good - we really should be good enough to at least avoid the drop and if necessary start again in the summer. I believe that RK and PJ have shown that short term loans dont work - season long loans maybe

Dear Paul Jewell, try some youngsters. You might find they actually work hard as they have something to prove.Probably not to you as you will only ship them out on loan but I am sure they will put in more effort than the first team.

alfromcol I agree with your post but you can hardly blame people for wanting to stay at home and save some money. Like many other I would like to see some of the youngsters given a go. Luke Hyam was doing a good job last season before being frozn out. Give these lads a go and see if they have what it takes.

Cant we just promote the entire youth team and sell losers like chopra and bullard. I'm sure thy would at least try to play and want to.

alfromcol - you really are a sad case - I'm sure that if you speak to Mr Evans and Mr Clegg nicely - they will arrange for you to receive a Medal for 'Naivety in the Extreme'.
Keep coughing up you silly s#d, smile, and continue pretending all is well.

Sadly, you won't be alone - which doesn't help the cause at all.

Cornardblue and alfromocol.. well said , very good posts could not have put it better... There werent many highlights last season were there? but the biggest highlight was beating the gunners, put a smile on lots of true supporters faces.
Some of you on here amaze me with your posts, what next? hoping that we lose so Jewell gets the bullet? ...... absolutely priceless ......COYB

Why is it that so many on here seem to think you are only a true supporter if you never moan or say anything against the state of the club or particular players/managers?

For God's sake, I have been a season ticket holder ever since I left school in 1974 (a number of years I think you'd agree), I will support this club through thick and thin (as I have had to do on previous occasions) and I will, yes WILL renew my ticket again next season.

So if I want to have a wee moan occasionally about the state of our once great club, or if I believe that Clegg is a joke and PJ is not the man to be in charge of our team, I will damned well have that moan regardless of what all the sheep on here think!!!!
