Hyam Out of Doncaster Visit
Hyam Out of Doncaster Visit
Thursday, 26th Apr 2012 13:53

Midfielder Luke Hyam will miss Saturday’s final game of the season at Doncaster due to the thigh injury he suffered in training last week. Lee Martin is a doubt with his groin strain, but Ryan Stevenson is back in training after suffering an Achilles’ problem before being replaced at half-time against Millwall last week.

Jewell said: “Lee Martin’s been struggling all week with an injury but he’s trained with the physio this morning. Luke Hyam’s torn his thigh, so he won’t play.

“Ryan Stevenson’s trained today, he had a sore Achilles’ against Millwall and that’s it, other than Jaime Peters, who has a thigh strain.”

Supporters Club Player of the Year Aaron Cresswell has already been ruled out due to the hamstring injury he suffered against the Lions.

Jewell was keeping his cards close to his chest regarding who would start at left-back at the Keepmoat Stadium, although ruled out two candidates: “It definitely won’t be Mark Kennedy.

“Joe Whight’s had a difficult first season [as a professional]. We think he’s going to be a good player but he’s had a difficult season and I think next season is a big one for Joe. I want him to be pushing Cressy next year but maybe at the moment he’s not quite ready for it yet.

“Jack Ainsley’s done well, but he’s played at right-back and centre-back and we’ll have to wait and see.”

Ainsley could potentially come into the side, either on the left or the right with skipper Carlos Edwards switching flank, or alternatively Damien Delaney could move across to full-back — the role he was bought to occupy when he joined Town in 2009 — with the soon-to-be-released Ibrahima Sonko coming in for a final Town appearance alongside Tommy Smith.

Jewell has confirmed that 16-year-old schoolboy midfielder Byron Lawrence will again be in the squad and is in with a chance of making his senior debut.

Play Bullard at LB. It would be a laugh.

For goodness sake don't name Bowyer,Sonko or Cropper in the squad now that they have been told they are to be released. Look to the future and name some youngsters instead.

Very disappointing to hear PJ's views on Joe Whight at the moment. I thought this game would be ideal for him, but to hear that he can't even be considered for left back on current form does not bode well.
Luke Hyam is a very decent player & we know he is up to playing at Championship level when called upon, let's just hope management remembers that over the summer & beyond.

Well, with Whight seemingly not good enough, and Kennedy not involved, what choice do we have?

ALB

Edwards Sonko Smith Delaney

JET Drury Lawrence Martin (if fit, don't think he will be)/Carson

Ellington Chopra

Bench: Ainsley Stevenson Leadbitter Murphy Scotland

ha no way play ellington!? play scotland anyday! I'd say a game for Leadbitter to try and make him sign that contract as well but i'd deffinitely call Byron Lawrence 2 start!! c'mon PJ give young Joe a chance...you never know how they perform on the day!

Another defeat on the cards then. Good to hear when we will spend a packet again this weekend.

Can Carson play LB? Don't think Delany should as he offers nothing going forward and I don't think those that aren't being kept should be played.
Wasn't that impressed with Stevenson on Saturday (although the whole team was pretty poor). I would play three CB's Ainsley, Delany and Smith with Carson and Edwards playing wing back.
JET, Drury and Stevenson accross the middle and Chopra and Scotland up top.
Give Lawrence the second half.
Shows what a weak bench we have when we don't have a sub at either left or right back

I would find a place in the team for Ainsley can play at RB or CB he's no worse than Sonko.

Garv - Ellington? We stand a better chance with me up front!

I say get the youngsters in!

Garv, hard to be too critical of Ainsley based on Peterborough, he was no worse that the other 10. I would give him another go, what the worst that could happen.............

Why does he feel the need to keep putting whight down he has said several times already he is not up to it so leave him be dont keep rubbing his nose in it i am surprised he has a team left to field given the way he is booting them out of the door

Saffronblue - fair enough. I'm not saying I'd be disappointed to see him play.

Ellington, whether we like it or not we have for another year so let's see what he can do! After all he hasn't been given a chance. One start in the league is it? Obviously we should be aiming for better but its the last game of the season, its Doncaster, let's give him a go. Plus he's the nearest thing to an aerial striker that we have, because to fair to him he does get up for headers well. Him and Chopra could be interesting.

Garv, fair point on Ellington he does offer us something different and we haven't seen enough of him, whilst I like both Chops and Scotland they have not really struck up a partnership so worth a go. Look at what his old strike partner has done up at Reading.

Id rather se Lee Barrett up front than Ellington.

Play Lawrence!

Could someone please tell me how this is "rubbing his nose in it" ? Sounds like he rates the lad but thinks he's not quite ready to me.

What is the club playing for now?
Points?
I hope not
Come on, I don't believe these Hyam reports. He was instrumental with Drury and Smith in turning our season around and now PJ is looking for defence of his other signings?

Are we dealing with lack of character?

I guess there is little on this game, although if we lose and results go against us we could finish in the worst position for almost 60 years! However, even if we avoid that, the majority of ITFC fans recognise that PJ has simply not delivered this season.

I wouldn't play anyone who is leaving - so no point even seeing Sonko, Murphy or Bowyer near the team. Same may apply to Leadbitter and Scotland! Therefore, we may have to play Ellington! Don't disagree with Garv's team choice, with exception of Sonko.

Hasn't Bowyer got a 1 year contract for next season? (thought I read that the other day). You look at that team as posted by Garv and it has to be said looks pretty weak.
