Hutchings Backs Hodgson
Hutchings Backs Hodgson

Town assistant boss Chris Hutchings has backed the appointment of Roy Hodgson as England manager. The West Brom man was confirmed as Fabio Capello’s successor this afternoon, signing a four-year deal.

Hutchings told the club site: "Roy is a good man and a vastly experienced manager. We have gone down the foreign route over the last few years and if we are going to go down the English route this time, then you are only talking about Roy and Harry [Redknapp] really.

"I'm not surprised Roy has got the job. He has a wealth of experience as a manager. He's managed abroad at some really big clubs and been a success. He's managed at international level as well. He has what it takes to do a good job for England.

"He's very tactical in how he works. He doesn't give anything away and that's what it's like at international football. It's not about playing free-flowing football, it's about winning games."

Meanwhile, Town’s Buttermarket Planet club shop is set to shut this Sunday due to a drop in trade throughout the shopping centre. Those who have ordered new shirts through the shop will now collect them from the Portman Road store.

Elsewhere, ex-Blue Richard Naylor has had his Rotherham contract terminated by mutual consent. The 35-year-old joined the Millers on a deal which was due to end in June from Doncaster in January and made five appearances, the most recent in February.

Sensible appointment, but the best choice was obviously Harry
Time will tell if it becomes to be a regret....

I am very pleased with Hodgson's appointment. He is a vastly experienced manager who I think will do as good a job as is possible with the limited talent available to any England manager. I hope he is given the support of the fans and media.

When I heard that Roy was our new Manager, why did I instantly feel the need to be sick and then take a picture to prove it!?!

Not a word from Hutchings all season about his defence letting in 75 goals and now this drivel, Sounds like he's auditioning to be a pundit.

I had been wavering on whether I thought the appointment by the FA was the right one or not, I can now rest easy.

Despite the Liverpool fiasco (which reminded me of Clough's time at Leeds), Hodgson is a decent manager who did well with Switzerland and Finland.

And he doesn't write like a two-year old or trust his dog with his bank account.

Good luck Roy!

......... if Jewell's side kick says he's good - he MUST be.

Bet Roy was waiting for that boost of confidence, and if Jewell agree's with him - ROY REALLY HAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT AT ALL.

Roy H is entirely fine by me: a manager with a good enough record, tactical nous, dignity and common sense, and a familiarity with his native tongue. He would have handled the Suarez episode in a manner which didn't make Liverpool an international embarrassment.
