Former skipper David Norris has dismissed claims that he might be set for a return to Portman Road this summer with his time at relegated Portsmouth coming to an end after just one season. Manager Paul Jewell had already ruled out a move for the 31-year-old.

Norris, who has kept in contact with various people at Portman Road including chief executive Simon Clegg since his Bosman free move a year ago, says he’s likely to talk to a few Championship clubs but not Town: “I don’t think Ipswich will be one of them.

"It’s true that I’ve kept in contact with Simon Clegg, but it’s literally just been the odd catch-up text every now and again — nothing more.”

Asked if he was considering a move for Norris at the end of the season, Jewell said: “No, not really. Chuck’s a terrific lad but I’ve got other targets we’re pursuing.”
