Hewitt Impressed By Town
Hewitt Impressed By Town

New signing Elliott Hewitt says everything about Town is impressive and that the club is a “big step up” from his previous side Macclesfield. The 18-year-old right-back signed a three-year deal yesterday, the clubs having agreed a fee in the region of £250,000 plus top-ups last week.

Wales U21 international Hewitt told the club site: "The club didn't really need selling to me, everything about the place is impressive.

“I've had a good look around the place and the training facilities are good, the ground is nice and it's a big step up from Macclesfield.

"I spoke to the owner and the manager and they said all the right things, which persuaded me that this was the right place for me to come and play my football.

"The manager also told me that he's looking to the future and looking to bring on young, hungry players, so hopefully I can help that happen here and help bring some success to Ipswich.

"I know the club have a tradition of bringing through young players, so that played a part in my decision and I'm looking to continue my development at this club now."

The quickest way to have loads of young, hungry players is to close Nandos.

Welcome ;)

What a lovely refreshing change from players dropping down from the Premier League who don't really want to come to Ipswich but do so as they are getting old or are not good enough for the Prem and want to take the money. We need more signings like Hewitt and Cresswell, as this is our future. Let's get a few more through the door.

Yer Mark i think we all agree, even if the odd one does not work out, its the way too go with the odd possible exception. Hopefully the lesson of last season has been well and truelly learnt.

Big club, Can't wait to get started. I am sure they have a pre-prepared speech for new signings!

I agree that this is the way to go but the cheapest and best young players are always our own

I really hope we see some players coming through the academy again soon. Connor Wickham aside (oh, and Jordan Rhodes) I do feel the club has taken an eye off producing our own talent since it has had the use of Marcus Evans' money

I agree with general enthusiasm, but a complete switch from signing 35-year-olds to signing 18-year-olds is not what we need. We need a little bit of both and--more to the point--plenty of 22-26-year-olds. This lad isn't going to get us promoted in 2012/13.

@simonsays - What else is he supposed to say "places a bit naff, training facilities suck, the teams rubbish, I cant be bothered to get going?"

Couldnt agree more. Lurching from one extreme to the other is not the way to go.

This is a very good signing and one for the future, although I think he may get a few games next season. I agree though we do have to get the balance right between youth and experience.

Sounds like a good kid..let's hope he's given a chance to prove himself.

Now for a PERMANENT GK,
A new centre back (if not two),
A new central midfielder,
+
A new striker.

Remember Jewell will not play young players so he will fit in with the new U21s now we will sign 8,30 somethings

Get an established CM (Robertson?)
, a young CB an experienced CB (right sided).
An established striker (Ricardo Fuller) Wickham back on loan
and a young winger (danny green? / Alan Judge / Matt Ritchie)
and a NO.1 GK (Guzan)
^^ MY wishlist ^^

First step is to get in some encouraging, hungry youngsters. This is a good move. Next step is to PLAY THEM so they don't get disillusioned. C'mon PJ, take a chance. Play Hewitt, Hyam, Carson & Cresswell from Day 1. You know it makes sense.
