Celtic Drop Murphy Fee
Celtic Drop Murphy Fee
Monday, 4th Jun 2012 09:38

Celtic are willing to sell Daryl Murphy to Town for a nominal fee, according to the Scottish media. On Saturday, TWTD reported that the Blues and Bhoys are set to discuss the 29-year-old’s future this week.

The SPL champions initially wanted a £300,000 fee for the Irish international but now are said to be willing to accept a significantly lower figure in order to remove the remaining year of Murphy’s contract from their wage bill.

TWTD understands that Murphy and his family are very keen to remain in Suffolk longer term, the former Waterford United and Sunderland man having spent two spells on loan at Portman Road.

With a front four of Murphy, JET, Martin & Chopra we had a good scoring record last season, that wasn't an accident. I think his work rate and ability in the air makes him an asset to the team and the fact that he is very keen to play for us is a positive too. I hope the deal comes off.

I like to see us keep together the attacking unit that saw our upturn in form around early Spring. We all know we can't defend, but we scored plenty last season and there's going to be enough disruption at the back that we should try to get a bit of stability in the rest of the squad.

buryblue77 - balanced assessment of the player that, and I agree with you.
And Dissboyitfc - agree also with your last post too, cannot disagree with any of that.

Anyone who wants to play for our shirt is a good starting block for me. Too many have signed for us for the pound note.
As for Murphy the player, as someone has already posted, he had far more assists, they were just not converted.

Yeah agreed - good commitment and strength, technically averafe but probably worth buying at that price and with lower wages.

A versatile, skilful and experienced player who also gives some needed height to the attack so would be a great addition. If we can sign him within a sensible wage structure it has to be worth it?

Very ineffective on his appearances last season. Look elsewhere please

Not for me, far too slow. Yes decent in the air and strong but not what we need out on the left wing. Maybe if you played him up front with a quicker, smaller goal scorer then maybe. But a definite NO where PJ keeps playing him. I would like to see Carson given a

Proper chance on the wing.

@Warkys_Tash - Do you not think it would be useful having a workhorse like Murphy on the left when we have (lets be honest) the complete opposite on the right in Emmanuel-Thomas? He gives us balance.

And as I've said before the pace argument is guff, frankly.

When Carson has progressed a bit and got a bit older and wiser I think he will be an exciting and useful player, but the fact is Murphy is a much superior player at this time.

Good player who impressed me immensely last season with his workrate, get him signed on.

Very good player. If we move him into a forward role/target man we could find he scores a lot of goals for us. So much potential still even at his age.
