Howells Staying at Luton
Howells Staying at Luton
Wednesday, 27th Jun 2012 13:41

Luton midfielder Jake Howells has signed a new three-year deal with the Hatters. The out-of-contract 21-year-old was understood to have been offered terms by the Blues but instead has opted to remain with with the Blue Square Bet Premier side.

Wales U21 international Howells, who plays at left midfield and left-back, was a player Town had been keeping an eye on since the 2010/11 season, although Howells himself reportedly says he knew nothing of the Blues' interest despite widespread reports linking Town with a move for him in January.

Howells' new deal at Kenilworth Road is understood to make him one of the club's highest-paid players.

I havent posted on here for a while but am going to start more this season because to be honest some of you old dated views make me laugh... anyway heres a story that my interest some of you and this is true fact and not my opinion. My step dads friend recently was on holiday at the same place as kevin phillips who as you will know ended up at blackpool last year.. he was going to sign for ipswich last summer but paul jewell chose nathan ellington instead he also commented that many player disliked jewells management style but he really wanted to come here. Just an interesting little story!

Bluelady - I meant obviously if it turned out to be true, and we now know that it wasn't.

When Phil reports 'we understand', more often than not it tends to be true. Obviously not this time.

What exactly is our position in the transfer market at the moment?...considering our season ended 2 months ago not a lot's happened with Just the signing of Hewitt so far...ok,still another 7 weeks til the season kicks off,so are we leaving things as late as possible so that we don't have to pay players over the longer than usual summer break?...I hope this has been the case?

Needless to say, things need to get rolling soon or we're going to get left behind - again!

Why are people moaning absolutely no proof we made a offer for Howells another mis-leading article on TWTD

jake surprised me cause i thought he was joining you but i thought he was watched twice by you and was watched also at wembley in may also jake can play lb lm cm am but is wasted at lb as hes more attacking than defence he is a luton boy and luton fan like adam watkins and we have lost so many kids lately but championship is probably too early for him he would easily fit in at l1 level 2yrs time could be a good buy and a good club for jake to move his career on to next level so thats why he was watched but no bid made yet to him or club

So ITFC have not made an offer or even spoken to the lad.

That`s the trouble with the internet, the masses crave information but sometimes there is just none to give so you end up with complete bollicks...........even on TWTD

Why all this yapping at so-called 'mis-leading' TWTD articles? Would people prefer this website just copy and pastes official news from the club website? How can every story possibly be 100% true? The fact is most of us like to read about rumours and speculation which can never be completely accurate. Those that don't like it then stick to the Town website news feed.

And moving on...

Regarding some of the above, my source is still confident of our story. Given that Sky and the local Luton paper had previously reported Town's interest in January, it seems unlikely that he was unaware of it.

If I got it wrong, I got it wrong and I apologise, but I think we're generally ahead of the game and get most things right.

He probably decided to stay at Luton because the contract clegg offered him was less than what he was on now!!
Honestly, Cant you just post when we have signed a player and the bloke is holding an ITFC shirt in his hands?
It's all getting rather dull and boring being linked with players every five minutes.
I expect the Ricardo fuller saga to emerge on here some time very soon!
Yawn!

Phil :- Don't let the B______s grind you down ! There are an awful lot of us that love every snippet about ITFC, especially those of us that don't, for one reason or another, live as near as we used to, so don't gain the gossip any other way other than reading it right here. Even if it is a ' linked with ', please keep feeding it to us. Those that don't like reading about these links - don't read them ! Simples !

I have no idea why everyone is having a pop at Phill and TWTD for simply reporting on transfer RUMOURS.

At no point did Phill say that this story was true, he just simply states that it has been reported by others that itfc may have an intrest.

And in responce to 'LEGEND' what would everyone talk about if Phill only ever posted after the player had signed. I think instead of blaming Phill we should be blaming Clegg and Jewell for not giving Phill any genuine stories to write about.

I am not having ago at TWTD more at the people who are so keen to slag the Club of at the first opportunity.
Having said that if this lad was offered terms by a championship club or even a 1st division one I find it inconceivable at the age of 21 playing non-league football he would turn it down.
There have been two non stories of late Jacobs and this one, how did JR describe the internet,a cesspit of miss-information, probably a bit over the top, but it pays to be selective and don`t use it to criticise your Club at every opportunity.

I think we didn't make an offer/was interested but some one from the media made this up to make us go for him. Keep up the good work Phill. We will get someone soon.

I don't know why anyone should feel cheated because we haven't signed a player from non-league football. He would have been one for the future anyway and the best he could hope for was a role on the fringe of the squad. OK he has chosen to sign a 3 year contract with Luton; nothing wrong with that as we wouldn't be offering anything like that. If we really want the player we can still make Luton an offer.

And as for those wanting to shoot the messenger, don't bother signing on if the news items are not what you want to read. I don't like the rubbish printed in the tabloids but nobody forces me to read them.

Keep up the goow work Phil & TWTD. I for one enjoy thre stories & the banter that follows. Thank you.

Cheers IrishTim and others. Re Jacobs, not sure that was a non-story, we were reported to be amongst the clubs looking at him, by Sky if I remember rightly, which was plausible given his performance against us last season. We may or may not have made him an offer, but still think it was reasonable to report developments regarding his situation.

I for one really appreciate the work you do Phil, it just doesn't help that being an Ipswich fan is tough enough on the pitch, let alone off it as well. It's so disheartening to be linked with so many players that end up going to other clubs, hopefully there will be some good news soon! Apologies.

jas099 - "That's FOUR players now who have chosen other clubs"

Allegedly. Only Ward (who clearly didn't want to leave the south coast area) definitely chose another club over us. The others were all rumour and conjecture so you can't use them as a stick to beat Jewell and Clegg with.

I personally like all the links to players posted on TWTD but I don't believe that we have made an offer to every single one of them, so I don't get upset when they go elsewehere.

Anyway, non league player elects to stay at non league club; clearly doesn't think he is ready for our level, so why are people getting upset?

I don't very often post on here but feel obliged to defend Phil here.

For those that moan about his non-stories, you can always start your own site. I wonder how many people will keep coming back 3 times day to see a blank screen with no new news for months cause you've had no transfers confirmed to write about.

This is one of the very few sites I check every day and Phil you do a great job. You don't need to defend yourself against people whining for whinings sake.

........ be honest with yourselves - what young ambitious player would want to come here, the longer this close season goes on with the Club showing NO ambition in terms of words, or better still ACTION, the less attractive a move here becomes to anyone.

The CEO and Manager need to get their a~s in gear, and real soon - because the reputation of this Club is certainly well down the slippery slope, and gathering speed.
Even the extremely stubborn diehards will very soon have to admit this is the case, if a change of situation is not imminent.
