Town Set to Land Chambers
Town Set to Land Chambers

Town appear increasingly likely to complete the signing of former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers, who underwent a medical and held talks at Portman Road yesterday. The 26-year-old returned home to Nottingham last night with rumours circulating that the move would break down with Leeds and a number of other clubs also believed to be interested.

However, it appears Leeds, whose takeover is believed to be close, have not firmed up their interest in the former Northampton man, who is available on a free transfer, his Forest deal having expired at midnight on Saturday.

As per reports earlier today, it seems Chambers returned home merely to take his time before making what is a big decision.

While a deal may not be done in time for Chambers to join the squad for the first day of pre-season training tomorrow, we understand the deal could well be completed by the end of the week.

Don't see any reason why he would want to go to Leeds, they are on a downward spiral and I wouldn't be supposed if they go down next season? He will see that Ipswich, with his help and a couple of others, can be real contenders nOt to mention a much nicer place to be?

Fenboy: I heard he was spotted in Blackpool, up the tower in search of your uncle who hadn't turned up for work at Elland Road. That is according to my blind third cousin....

concerns me that he's had to go away and think about it, its not like it was a suprise to him that we were after him, would have much preferred that he saw what he liked aka the set up and stadium and was happy with the offer on the table, bit of a worry if you ask me but trying to be optimistic I'm sure everything will be fine and he'll sign by the end of the week

Sometimes it's good to have the odd fan of other teams come on here and have an informed debate with us but do we really have to endure the likes of Fenboy? If Chambers goes elsewhere so be it, his choice. PJ will have other targets in mind have no fear and he'll get who we need - he has too - cant afford not to!!

I am not surprised that people were worried after the 'Chambers returns to Nottingham story' as Ipswich have lost out time and time again in transfers when other clubs have been involved. Let's really hope that Luke signs shortly as we don't want this dragging on day after day, it's so frustrating! The stakes are high, as getting in a centre back like him could make all the difference next season.

Would be good if we can get him signed up.

Oh, and he wont be on anything like £16k per week.

Nature of the beast. In years gone by we would not have even known he was at the ground yesterday and when he did sign on friday it would be the first we heard of it. Same with this Cheick Kourouma kid, we would have had no idea he was signing (and probably no idea who he was without wikipedia!). We live in a world were we know far to much yet understand very little.

Well damn me .... but I must be one of those "fecking moaners" because frankly I am still not totally convinced he will be coming here - although I too very much hope he does. It's not a done deal until the paperwork is signed, sealed and delivered, and as clivewoodsleftpeg quite rightly said, it is of concern that after all the goings-on yesterday and that he would have been well aware of Town's interest early on, he still feels the need to go home and think about it!

But then what the hell would I know .... I'm just a fecking moaner!!

@wickets - definitely mate should sign him as well as Chambers then we'd have two right sided centre backs and two left ones, plus hes meant to be good too so that helps!

BigAlsMate - I would call you a realist - far too many others are 'pie in the sky' people, who continually knock others who speak the truth, and see / say it as it 'really is'. Cloud Cuckoo Land - will always be the preferred residence for some.

Phil

You have a great ability to keep a story going.

This is turning into a thriller. Should find out who the villain is by the weekend?
