Blues in Heskey Talks
Blues in Heskey Talks
Friday, 20th Jul 2012 10:50

Town are in talks with former England international Emile Heskey. The 34-year-old is out of contract having left Aston Villa earlier in the summer.

A national newspaper broke the news of the Blues' interest in the veteran striker earlier today, with TWTD sources more locally backing up the report.

Last night, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that Town are close to making their fourth signing of the summer with a big frontman in the Heskey mould very much amongst his targets.

Heskey started his career with Leicester City before moving on to Liverpool, Birmingham, Wigan and then finally Villa.

Jewell previously signed 6ft 2in tall Heskey whilst at Wigan during the summer of 2006.

Poll: In favour of Emile Heskey joining the Blues?

Offers us something we have needed for years, short term and expensive though

If I remember rightly, Heskey wasn't noted for his ball control and wasn't that great at holding up the ball/link up play. In his day he was more of a battering ram center forward with good pace. Good in the air and aggressive. A player likes Chops could get a lot of loose/breaking ball in the box

I havent seen him play in a few years so Im not sure if he still has speed and 90 minutes in those legs. If he still has that bit of pace + stamina, then he would be a good addition.
Maybe the Championship level is his standard.

IMO we need a 90 minutes striker to partner Chops week in week out.
If we get this striker and Heskey, fantastic!

This is very depressing. whether we sign him or not the mere fact that we're even considering him is very very worrying - just about the last player on earth that we should be looking at

Seems nearly a 50/50 split on pro's for and against this signing. Whilst i don't overly rate the player at premiership level he may be-able to do a good job in the championship. On the negitives he is well passed his prime and doesn't score an awful lots of goals. On the plus though he is a FREE transfer and whilst some posts suggest he would be on large wages i disagree with that. Would he be signed on a 1 or 2 year contract would also come into it for me, a one year and i'd say worth a gamble as a FREE transfer, a two and i'd say probably no. Time will tell but remember we have 7 subs next year and he may be a great option to mix things up from the bench...........

Oh my!!! Have half you lot ever seen Heskey play.? He is without a shadow of doubt the worst player to grace the premier league. No sorry grace is totally the wrong word. His record is appauling wherever he's been. "He is a big centre forward" people say -my four year old daughter could knock him off the ball. Jewell sign me i'm a year younger, i'm also fat and for 10k a week my work rate would be awesome!!!!
Lord give me strength

Amazing the worst player in premiership history managed to get 62 caps under a number of managers ,and the likes of Owen and Rooney say he was one of the best to play alongside ,but hey what do international players and managers know about football ,clearly not as much as half the idiots on here

No no no, not Donkey Heskey. He has always been awful, just awful : another striker who doesn't score any goals ; can't control a ball ; can't shoot ; is rubbish in the air ; is slow as a snail ; and, now, is very old. Where's Lee Chapman when you need him ...

What do you get if you cross a ball and Emile Heskey?

A goal kick.

We should be building for the future and bringing in younger, hungry players with something to prove. We don't need more of these players out for one last payday whom have no vested interest in the future of the club and/or their own career. That's what disappoints me the most about this story.

people who arent happy with this know nothing about football.fellow pro's love playing alongside him and when he came down here with Wigan a few years back he ran the game and we couldnt get the ball off him.
His hold up play was unbelievable. At this level he would do a great job.

Keanish and surco you are talking complete sense. Chops would have a field day next to him.

Wouldn't fancy coming up against him every week and PJ has said he needs youth as well as experience. At the moment, other than Edwards we are a very young side.

If it happens then will still get my support.

Stu_ward27... totally disagree with you comparing him to scotland, very different attributes. Scotland CAN score goals, is the sort of player who can come off the bench and find the net, but how many headers will he win in a game? none is the answer. Heskey is a defenders nightmare will win lots in the air, could aid chopra's amount for the season but will score very few himself... I am split on this one, really not sure but if pushed i would say no too old, we have done the, has beens b4 and they never seem to work for us.... coyb

I don't rate him, never have. He always seems to frustrate me whenever I watch him play.
BUT if for some strange reason he does end up joining us then I will support him. Sign him to play just behind a front two, not as a striker and it could work.

could be a very good signing if true

What Dissboy said pretty much sums up my feelings. Yes, he's the type of player we need and who we haven't had in a while. However, he's just too old and we need to be wary considering the signings last year. Any suggestions for a younger, lower league striker in a similar mould?

I dont beleive im reading this,no no no no no a complete waste of money paying his wages, at least you could say he has not got any slower as he has got older as he never had any pace to start with!!

mmmmm, I would rather buy Davies then get Heskey. Heskey would be a good target man but I think Jason Scotland is a good target man as well? Ok Scotland is not the most tallest player in the world, but he is good at holding the ball up and would normally score 10-15 goals a season. Would Heskey score that in the Championship? Don't know.
