JET: Fans Shouldn't Be Stressed Over Pre-Season
JET: Fans Shouldn't Be Stressed Over Pre-Season
Monday, 30th Jul 2012 14:10

Town midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has urged fans not to be too stressed about pre-season, despite the Blues having lost 2-0 to Luton on Saturday. The former Arsenal man says he expects “big things” coming Town’s way when the season proper begins.

The 21-year-old said: “This season I can feel big things coming our way #TractorBoyz.”

He added: “Twitter is hilarious the things people say on here lol #Unbelievable.”

“Living outside your means #NotCool,” he continued, presumably making reference to criticism of Town's lack of spending so far this summer.

The former England U17 and U19 international says fans oughtn't to get too concerned over pre-season results: “Some fans worry me, stop stressing over pre-season and f****** support your team properly while we prepare for the start of the season #Mugs”

After some negative comment regarding that tweet, he added: “99% of fans understood the tweet, there’s just 1% that can’t seem to think and just be sensible about it #LeaveItYeah.

“I will soon stop interacting with fans and be like some others ballers and just ignore the tweets I get. And then who will the mugs talk to? lol.”

Nicely said Edmunds5, what I was trying to say about bringing up last seasons results. Is I want us to move forward, but being beaten by Luton is a little concern. And the defending hasn't been addressed enough.

Oh for f***s sake.Leave the man alone! He will be damned if he doesnt answer and equally if he does. The moaners will be proud that they got one over Jet if he ignores them..... Remember, last season was his 1st full season of senior footie, possibly playing in a new position to him.He is learning his game. What do you expect 25 goals and 30 assists..... So lets get behind the team and a bit of encouragement helps.

May be right, may be wrong, but the manager will not be pleased with a young player taking it upon himself to speak for the group in this way. Immature and suggests an inflated sense of his own importance.

Maybe not the wisest way to do it but i agree with JET's sentiment.
Jas no one got carried away with the Cambridge result, and similarly we shouldnt with the Luton one. Neither mean anything once we get under way.
Brotherblue - if we lose to Bristol Rvs then fair enough have a whinge if you must but otherwise chill out.

On this subject I think it's important to remember that the access that fans get to the players via Twitter is a privilege and not a right to be abused.

Back in the day the only info that we received on the club and players was in the main via the local papers & printed fanzines.

These days the insight that you can get from following players and their Tweets is an interesting new perspective. Clearly JET is looking forward to his season with Town as is shown by Tweets such as, “This season I can feel big things coming our way”.

In respect of this story I think it is wrong of our fans to use Twitter to vent every single little bit of pent up frustration and anger at players. Yes we'd all like Town to win every single game they play but that's simply never going to happen. Pre-season is a time to get players fit, try out formations and give some of the fringe players/ youngsters/ trialists the opportunity to show what they can do. Whilst we'd all like Town to win every game the results in pre-season are not the be all and end all because it's the performances & points that we pick up once the league has started that are important.

Slinging mud at players via Twitter, or any other forum, after every single time we lose a game is hardly constructive and no way to support our club.

JET is right that we need everybody at the club including the fans to pull together and support the club 100%. The support offered by the fans can be a very important factor if we can produce a decent atmosphere vocally supporting the team.

If players, such as JET, are receiving abuse from people on Twitter who could blame them for taking themselves off Twitter. I for one would view that as a shame because I see the different insight that you get through Twitter as a bonus in addition to the standard press interviews.

At the same if JET takes a lot of criticism for this who could blame him for thinking seriously about moving on. If he's not going to get support from the fans it's hardly going to make him feel welcome. If JET left the club I would see that as a real shame. He's a young player learning his game at Town. Whilst not the finished article with games and a run in the side I think he will get better and better. It was a privilege to watch some of the skills he displayed last year and certainly a highlight for me during what at many times was a dull season. At times it was only the skills of JET that could bring a smile to my face in what have been some lean times supporting Town.

Let's all pull together and support the club and get 100% behind the players instead of sniping at them if they don't win every single game.

Totally agree with JET, supports should show support, clue is in the name. To any one saying oh we pay his wages etc, grow up paying someones wages doesn't give you the right to abuse them. There are far to many fans not doing there bit. I have lost count the number of games at FPR that I have had to listen to a bunch of constant moaning from people around me. Even if when we are playing well. When was the last time we actually had a good home atmosphere, we should all look at ourselves our half arsed home support is joke, you want the players to give a 100% yet most people can't be bothered to give half that back.

buryblue77 me to mate never been on twitter/facebook but I do respect JET for at least interacting with the fans and putting a few straight.

I like this boy a lot, I think he could be a top top top player who I think if he starts this season the way he fnished the last we may struggle to keep hold of come January. His performance when he came on against Birmingham was one of the best individual performances in my 25 years watching town.

Totally agree with JET, although he may have overstepped the mark as far as the club are concerned. Having read some utter nonsense posted on here, we can onlu imagine the kind of mornic things they have to listen to from so called fans. While it is quite nice to hear how JET really feels rather than the usual PC stuff, maybe Jewell should insist that players don't use social websites.

Well said JET. All fans are entitled to their opinion but the moaning and looking on the black side of everything is getting ridiculous. Yes we have been stagnating for last 7 years but there are a lot of clubs in a much worse position than we are, financially, league wise and in some cases on the verge of closing down. Yet fans at these teams seem to get behind their clubs. The atmosphere at home games is generally poor and negative and it just makes matters worse. We are where we are as a club, stop moaning and living in the past and get behind the players vocally and in numbers and who knows, we might just help things to improve!!

Id like to hear that PJ has at least warned him to hold his tongue in future.. he makes some great points in all his tweets but at the end of the day he is supposed to be a professional and as such should expect there to be idiotic fans with idiotic and upsetting opinions no matter where you are... some of which my be people pretending to be town fans just trying to get a reaction...
bottom line is he should know better and rise above such things and set a #example not blow his ridiculously short fuse and make himself out to be an arrogant overpaid prat who thinks all his fans wont have a life if they don't get to talk to him on twitter....

If one of our young players feels the need to address some of the negativity thats been spouted by some of our......well.... 'supporters' (i use the term loosly as I have my doubts). Dont you think that will be reflected on the pitch? Also this negativity is becoming so constant, I find it hard to understand. Its unnecessary as its only preseason! Unnecessary pressure. If I were a potential young signing looking fo play for itfc, and I looked at half these posts, I probably wouldnt want to sign here either! Which maybe the reason why we miss out on a few quality signings! Just a thought.
