Boyd Now Unlikely to Join Town
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 22:29

Town’s move for Peterborough midfielder George Boyd appears less and less likely to be successful despite his Posh team-mate Paul Taylor agreeing terms with the Blues earlier this evening.

On Monday, the clubs agreed a fee understood to be in the region of £1.75 million to £2 million, the players failing to agree terms after talks at Portman Road yesterday.

Speaking on Sky’s The Footballers’ Football Show this evening, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony said that one of the players, presumably Taylor, was back in talks with Town - with his personal terms now agreed - but that Boyd is no longer keen on the move.

He said: “One of them is in discussions again and something could happen by the time I leave the show.

“One of them has definitely said no. That’s his prerogative, he feels it’s not the right move for him.”

We understand that Boyd was keen on the switch in principle but that the wages on offer at Portman Road were some distance from the terms he was looking for.

While seemingly dead deals have a habit of being revived on the final day of the transfer window, it does appear that the Blues may now have to look elsewhere for midfield recruits.

Meanwhile, Blues youngster Joe Whight could go out on loan on deadline day with League One Yeovil understood to be amongst the interested clubs.

Real shame, but at least we got Taylor!

Hope Wight goes out on loan and PJ can get a couple of CB's in and MAYBE a midfielder but its probs a bit too much to ask!

Still love the town even through all this, all the haters can do one and go support Norwich as they wish to do!

We have Murphy anyway but still would have been a great asset to the team

Well he can jog on then. We need defenders anyway. COYB

Seems like a certain Mr Boyd thinks he's worth a little bit too much to be honest.

If he had real quality, he would have been snapped up a couple of years ago by another club, most likely Forest after his loan deal there a couple of years ago.

After a real rant this morning, with some calmer thought, i'm rather glad ITFC aren't wasting valuable wages on a player who obviously over-estimates his own ability.

Pity but we must move on, as the report says " that's his prerogative "

Taylor is the one I wanted. Boyd would have been very nice to have too but I won't lose sleep.

We have Murphy to play wide left - or up front of course in a 4-4-2 - and at least with Boyd out the picture now we know Carson will keep his place on the bench which is, with respect, where he probably belongs right now. That's good, because Carson is a good young squad player. He'll improve.

Two centre backs now please Jewellio!

Not sure how reliable DM is on this. The deals were off last night. Based on the other info on here tonight, It could take just an extra grand a week and the deal will be done.

I love the way Boyd is being made out to be a money grabber. but if you were on 12k a week would you leave to join a club for 7k a week?

We would have played Spurs at home of we beat Carlisle an probably a 25k crowd with the right pricing strategey. Weighing it up these things can pay for themselves in a short space of time. I value our security but it's hard when I want to see some progress

Totally agree SheffieldBlue1 - the guy is 26 years old and never done well anywhere except a mediocre team like Peterborough so what does he expect to be paid? Don't really care now Murphy has signed it's a bit more options down that side anyway. COYB

The Posh fans say Boyd is alright and Taylor very good they say they would expect him to get 20 this year but not stay at the club long as he is going places.

Murphy on the left plus Carson and if we play 4-4-2 we have Martin as well so why would we need Boyd on a reported 8k at posh and reported he want double to join town if true he is not worth 16k

Hope Boyd can be persuaded to change his mind.

1) He is an outstanding player and would make a big difference and his agent should be made well aware of our thoughts.
2) He wants to come and play with Taylor.
3) He won't have to move house.
4)Agree to maintain his present wage so that he immediately knows he is no worse off.
5) Come to an agreement to meet his wage demands but make the extra a bonus structure so that when he performs he gets paid what he expects. This will cost Ipswich nothing now until he proves himself. If this then hopefully happens , by then possibly Ellington will be settled up which will release funds to pay the extra,
Also the youngsters can be loaned out to help pay the wages and keep a tight knit squad.
I hope Boyd reads this as he is the one player I would certainly make a trip to watch and I live in Guernsey?

I hope he can re-consider and boost his career by making the right choice. I think a deal can be arrived at to satisfy all parties including George, Surely better to play where you are wanted.

Just 2 more, a decent CB and CMD, I think Boyd will secretly rue the chance he missed to join Town in the long run, but if he doesn't want to play for Town then hes probably better off elsewhere. Only really want players who are hungry and wanting to play in the blue shirt NOT players who just want to pick up a juicy pay packet every week.

Who cares about Boyd, Murphy plays left mid and is a good player up front too, we need fuc3ing centre halves

If it can't be done, it can't be done...... move on now please and lets get our defensive cover sorted pronto. Not sure we should have let Delaney go without a replacement lined up, hope St Ledger signs this time?

Murphy is a good signing but he is not a George Boyd who would give the team something extra... pity as we need a creative midfielder and some defenders...

Georgie Porgie pudding and pie,
Talked to Clegg which made him cry.

Georgie Porgie ran away.

I am at a loss as to how ITFC even got this far in the deal with Boyd, either that or it shows just how little homework that we actually did.
Boyd is reported to be on 15k per week at PUFC, he nearly went to Wolves for 2.5million last year so his agent and club must still see him around that value.
With that logic and only having 9 months left on his present contract, his value to transfer is probably about 1 million which is thought to be the fee agreed with ITFC.
The other outstanding 1.5 million his agent will have wanted spread over the 3 year contract that ITFC offered him, which if I am right would give him a minimal of £10k per week, giving him 25k per week which only Blackburn outside the Prem would be prepared to pay.
On the down side, he is despite his lack of pace in the words of many PUFC fans"the best player to ever where the Posh shirt".
