Posh Chairman Unsure on Boyd's Future
Sunday, 9th Sep 2012 19:42

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony admits that he doesn’t know whether Posh midfielder George Boyd will be joining the Blues on loan this week. MacAnthony’s club accepted a £250,000 offer from Town for the 26-year-old towards the end of the transfer window but the move broke down after the former Stevenage man was unable to agree personal terms at Portman Road.

Asked by a Town fan on Twitter whether Boyd would join the Blues this week, MacAnthony conceded that he didn’t know: “I have no idea buddy, to be honest.”

Despite the deal breaking down, like Town's initial approach for Posh striker Paul Taylor, the switch has always seemed likely to be revived with all parties — the Blues, Peterborough and Boyd — appearing to want the move to go through.

The sticking point has been the Scotland B international’s current terms of more than £10,000 a week, which makes him Peterborough’s highest-paid player.

Town were unwilling to stretch to wages close to his current earnings or agree the four-year contract the player is understood to want.

Last week, Peterborough director of football Barry Fry indicated that Posh would be willing to negotiate a loan with a view to a permanent deal in January, Blues boss Paul Jewell said the switch could be revisited, while we understand Boyd is very keen to join his former team-mate Taylor at Portman Road.

However, the addition of at least one, probably two, centre-halves remains Town's priority and an improved offer to Boyd may depend on the cost of bringing in those players. Talks are reported to have taken place with Southend's Bilel Mohsni today, while Stoke's Matthew Upson is amongst Jewell's top central defensive targets.

Chatham-born Boyd is out of contract at London Road at the end of the season and is transfer-listed having turned down a new deal.

Good player but on crazy money as not entirely proven.

For me, take a payout Boydie or don't bother even with the loan.

just a further indication of how mad football has become when a Scotland 'B' international can earn 10k a week at Peterborough. Really mad.

It's obvious they want him off their books, I'd say a loan move is certain.

Walberswick, do you even understand what you're commenting on?

What does Boyd's potential wages have to do with Jewell making a decision?

Good to see players ridiculous pay is s coming down but 10k a week is small fry in the PL where things are plain crazy. Ronaldo wanting 500k a week !! Its madness for kicking an inflated bit of leather around

everyone wants this so Mr Evans please sit the lad down and sort it out with him. He can easily earn more money with us by proving his ability on the pitch.

An Incentivised package is the answer,

Well I hope these footballers have watched the Paralympics and realise that money's not everything and realise what a life they have. I'm starting to get fecking sick about the wages they think they should earn.

Football is the national sport and watched by hundreds of thousands every week and generates billions every year. With such figures its no wonder footballers earn good money.

Successful actors and pop stars earn a lot of money as well by football seems to be the only focus for the Olympic and Paralympic comparisons.

gypo.. totally agree, i work with people who are on the minimum wage ( £6.08 ) and they have children and bills. At the end of the day 2 grand a week would give you a fantastic life style. I am glad the ffp has come in, get rid of the fecking agents and pay sensible wages. I mean 10 grand a week for an average player.

Just watching the paralympians, the courage the sacrifices and all for the reward of competing, and in most cases no monetary reward at all. kind of puts in all into perspective really doesnt it.

Mattinlondon.... the difference is football cannot sustain the losses that are being made outside of the premiership, stupid wages have to stop hence the ffp, therefore not the same as pop-stars and actors at all.

Don't need him, especially at the cost of Martin,Really can't stand that bloody nasty photo and we should'nt even be looking at this sort of player like I said in another post we want Higgingbottom and St Leger not midfielders

Was greedy first time round, think we can pass on him now. We need to strengten our defence so the money would be better off spent there. Let Peterborough hang on to him and if he's so good he will get them promoted.

"Town were unwilling to stretch to wages close to his current earnings or agree the four-year contract the player is understood to want." This is the correct position for the club to take. The Bullard saga should be a lesson here.

Mattinlondon sorry but so what I have mates fighting a war our government has billions do they, nurses, police, firemen, etc get a good wage no do they feck. And then you get some average and that's all he is average footballer wanting 10 grand a week and to rub it in wants a 4 year contract on of that !!
That's what I'm getting at . COYB

I am sorry but this is why we miss out on players time and time again.

10k is not a lot for a very good player. Which he is. 250k no problem there! he's not on megga money like Bullard and if Clegg knew his stuff he would know that it would be a good idea to have him on a four year deal not a bad thing. The club would have security.

Boyd is far better and would be more important to our side than Taylor. We need creativity more than we needed a striker.

Aren't we all a little bit unsure of everyone's future ? Otherwise we'd all be winning the Euromillions every week.

I don't want to belittle the great work that the police, the armed forced do - and the rather throwaway treatment that the soldiers get from the government is awful.

The point I'm trying to make is that footballers earn a lot of money simply because they generate billions. And if I was a football agent then I would be trying to grab as much as possible. I don't really begrudge anyone wanting to get as much money
