Reo-Coker In Talks But Deal Not Done
Saturday, 13th Oct 2012 18:43

Free agent Nigel Reo-Coker has not yet signed for Town but the Blues are one of a number of Championship clubs speaking to the former Wimbledon, Aston Villa, Bolton and West Ham man.

Reports earlier this evening claimed a deal had been completed but while the Blues are currently speaking to the former England U21 international, and appear very much to be the current frontrunners for his signature, no move has so far been agreed.

Reo-Coker’s agent Tony Finnigan told TWTD: “It’s a club we have spoken to and are in talks with. Ipswich are one of a host of Championship clubs interested.”

The 28-year-old was recently training with Charlton, while Crystal Palace and Hull City are also clubs understood to be interested, but Town would seem to be the favourites for his signature at the present time.

Born in Thornton Heath, Reo-Coker started his career with the old Wimbledon, making his senior debut in the 2002/03 season. His displays for the Dons impressed West Ham who signed him for £500,000 in January 2004.

After three and a half not always happy years at Upton Park, during which time he captained the side under Alan Pardew, the former England U21 skipper joined Aston Villa for £8.5 million in July 2007 having asked for a transfer.

He left Villa when his contract expired last summer and, having apparently held talks with Town, moved on to Bolton, where he made 42 starts and scored three goals as they dropped out of the Premier League. In May he activated a relegation clause in his contract and left the Reebok Stadium.

Capped 23 times at U21 level, scoring once, Reo-Coker subsequently rejected the international advances of Sierra Leone, the country of his doctor father’s birth and where he lived for six years as a child.

Why didn't we get these players in before the beginning of the season? They're all unaattached or on the periphery of their teams. It's too late now, season is over.

What was Jewell doing from Jan to August?

I'm not going to comment. That it's come to this is a story in itself.

It would seem he has been in talks with several clubs recently, can only imagine he is still without a club because of his wage demands. If this is the case then we all know he will sadly not be signing for ITFC.

@ Gibbs.

All we want is to have a team sorted before the season starts, and not have to rely on short term and "get players fit" loans. Yes he is a good player, but we need to improve other area's of the team too.

Plenty of moaning about us signing midfielders. Guys, let's be honest, the midfield we have isn't going to get us into the top six (not that the rest of the squad is much up to it at present either). I don't see the harm in getting Reo-Coker in whatsoever.

Besides, it doesn't matter whether Jewell signs a 28 year old midfielder, a 33 year old striker or a 20 year old centre-back - it's pretty obvious that there will always be moaning on here about whoever it is because said player would've been signed by Paul Jewell and is therefore the cause of everything that is wrong with the club.

Calm the hell down, people.

Gibbsitfc I know what your saying and I sort of agree; but you could have put in in a nicer way.Anyway this is a very good player and although we have a lot of midfielders we still lack strength in that area. We also need another striker like dj to penatrate the front line because there is no move movement down the middle of the park when we break down the middle.

Anyone agree?

Wellens here just for a month,
Mohsni .....only for three months
N Daw only a years contract
Luongo.....here for a year but will never be our player......
JET continues to disappoint
Martin stalling on contract talks

we do need midfield players but not as a priority......how many more times does it need to be said that we do we need our own CB's and sadly now it may suggests another goal keeper.

.....and what message does this send out to Hyam and carson.....get a grip

Loosing faith so fast in PJ and ME......no plan no purpose no direction no solution

Of course we are going to make crazy comments, all of us. It's not our fault that our team is being run so frustratingly inefficient.

here we go. all the negative idiots are here again. just remember people, the 1st story about him having already signed was speculation, so why just because that story has been shown to be incorrect its no reason for ne1 to start criticisng the club yet again. would be a good signing if it happens, but if it doesnt bacause his wage demands are too high then thats fine by me as we must not get drawn into paying silly money to ne1. while phil does a great job on here i do think that thos is a case where he should have waited for confirmation of what happening with this before having put the original story on here. may stop the negative comments, tho i doubt it the way many who post on here are,

C'mon people, keep the faith... just a bit longer. We've got to get one of these links signed up at some point... haven't we?

levington added 20:29 - Oct 13
what is the point of it all. we're going to end up 13-17th in the table. No part of the team sorted at the moment, Nobody is going to give PJ another ciontract including ITFC.

Kick him out and give the new guy some time to sort the team and two transfer windows.

Or do we wait until the summer and then have to waste another year as someone sorts this mess out?

The problems not midfield it's the management from top to bottom,no direction or any idea! As for the team sort the defence out and the attack as there is more sharpness on a nail then on them!
