Keeper Henderson Set to Become Eighth Loan
Monday, 15th Oct 2012 11:25

Town have signed West Ham keeper Stephen Henderson on loan. The Blues are expected to confirm the deal on Tuesday but we understand that the Irishman has been at the club today.

Henderson was one of the trio of Portsmouth players the Blues targeted in January prior to his switch to Upton Park. Despite lengthy negotiations, the Blues were unable to agree a deal for any of the three.

In March he joined the Hammers on a temporary loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer when he signed a three-year contract. However, since then he has made only two starts in the Capital One Cup.

Republic of Ireland U21 international keeper Henderson had joined Pompey from Bristol City in the summer of 2011 having failed to usurp ex-England international David James at Ashton Gate.

Henderson, who stands 6ft 4in tall, had previously spent time on loan at York, Weymouth, Aldershot and Yeovil, and the Glovers’ Player of the Year award in 2010/11.

The Dubliner comes from a goalkeeping dynasty. Grandfather Paddy played for Shamrock Rovers in the 1960s, his father, also named Stephen, played, managed and coached at various sides in the League of Ireland.

His uncle Dave also played in the League of Ireland, for amongst others Shamrock Rovers, and another uncle, Wayne, currently plays for Preston and the Republic of Ireland.

Scott Loach and Arran Lee-Barrett are the club's current senior keepers with the former Watford man widely criticised for his performance in the recent 2-1 home defeat to Cardiff City.

Town, who signed free agent Nigel Reo-Coker on a three-month short-term deal on Saturday, already have Massimo Luongo, Daryl Murphy, Guirane N'Daw, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell, Bilel Mohsni and Richie Wellens on loan.

Clubs are permitted to name five domestic loan players in a matchday squad with Henderson the sixth. Murphy (Celtic) and N'Daw (St Etienne) don't count to this total with their parent clubs from 'foreign' associations.

Loach will not be dropped.
Henderson will not start.
Lee-Barrett will not be on the bench.

It's not difficult to work the dynamic here. Henderson has been brought in to give Loach competition which every player needs, it's a good signing!

What's bad about it is. He already turned us down and it's yet another loan and more money spunked away!!!

Ridiculous that he signs a player after a few bad games, would he do that with Edwards or Cressy, don't think so
Jewel out

Do we know how long he is on loan for? Poor old ALB another contracted player trying to get a foothold at ITFC finds himself further down the ranks (as well as a few others).

So Loach has one bad game and a loanee is drafted into replace him despite Loach IMHO being our best performer this season upto the Cardiff game.
Yet Cresswell and Drury who have been poor this season continue in the team?!!
Jewell is thrashing about making loan signings left, right and centre, mainly in the spine of the team, mainly players who are not playing so lacking match fitness and often in areas where we already have cover.
For me a lot of the problems right now are the full-backs and wide midfielders not stopping crosses into our box and being poorly positioned. Yet these seem to be the only areas Jewell isn't strengthening!
It is so frustrating and I really do despair for my club.
The fact these short-term deals are happening makes me think ME has given PJ till xmas to sort things out. Just how far adrift from safety we could be by then on our current form I dread to think!
We are in a real mess and I can only see it getting worse before it gets better. Hope I'm wrong though

can't see him coming straight in at number 1, its always good to have competition for places, if that was the case it would be a real kick in the teeth for Loach, would hope Jewell gives Loach bit of time despite his indifferent form, sometimes as a manager you have to back your players even though you know they should be doing better, he will find that Loach comes out the other side a better keeper, drop him now and potentially shatter his confidence, and to be honest it can't be easy playing behind such a poor defence

agreed @runaround re: PJ will be given at least a couple more months as so many players have come in at once which I find a bit despairing and also a bit of a sly move, with PJ's track record and the amount of permutations he's going to get out of this lot will only make matters worse, we might get 1 or 2 on a contract or to the end of the season IF they prove themselves but I'm not holding my breath! I was hoping for a settled team for the start of this season...anything but!

I think ME is signing all the players Harry Redknapp wants ready for when he takes over next week. I live in hope.

Of course hes going to play! Why come to 2nd bottom ipswich and sit on the bench? That would show great ambition on his part. JEWELL OUT!!!

My brother in law text me earlier and said he was cycling home from work, as he passed portman road a man jumped on his back and said in a scouse accent, 'hey mate, do you know where the Ipswich Town dressing room is?'

People need to have a long hard think about what they want from our club if they continue to back this clown. These short term deals may well get us out of the relegation zone but after that? We'll be straight back to square 1, with players (that the clown bought) devoid of confidence knowing that the clown doesn't really think they're good enough. Evans needs to do the right thing! CLOWN OUT!!!

.... anyone with a brain cell amongst us, must be in a state of profound shock at the plight of our Club.

This is what happens when a Club is in the hands of, and being ran by, non Football people - and a Manager who has lost / forgotten / mislaid anything he MAY (not convinced though) have once had.

Have to say - I did predict it - and the decent and honest amongst you would agree with that.
Such a shame for a unique and proud Club, with much association with absolute LEGENDS.

Utter despair at the state of this club. Having been going for the past 30 years have never seen nothing like it.

How can we the supporters believe anything our so called manager says anymore. " I have learnt from my mistakes", "we will build step by step and take it steady giving youth a chance" "no more short term loans".

Jewell has created his own problems and they are HIS team he has created. The loan and short term contracts are not match fit and those here for 3 months tie in with the transfer window. And what has Ndaw done wrong.

Jewell chose loach over other keepers available, he was not forced to buy him and Henderson will be the 5th keeper he has brought in.

You can't defend the indefensible and for those who think jewell is still the man for the job please explain how.

And he hasn't the balls to go to the supporters club so he sends his old mucker.

Enough is enough.

Pathetic. Absolutely disgusting how the club is being run now.

Jewell out. Enough is enough.

Isn't it a bit foolish to sign a keeper who told us to f*ck off a few weeks ago.

Hardly going to be a crowd favourite but then again Jewell is only really worried aout his own job.

h32, you were right, i think now, however, it,s time for us to show vent our frustrations at matches & show Evans/Clegg Jewell etc that we,ve had enough, not just sit feet shuffling tut tutting at another inept performance.

What a horrendous death we are experiencing. The grim reaper in the form of PJ is slowly strangling the life out of ipswich town. Friends and family can only look on horrified and united in their pain. Lets hope it's over soon.

Utterly astonishing. To think, you used to have eleven first team players, one sub and unless someone was injured you could pretty much name the team from one month to the next...Now I turn up at PR some weeks and I don't recognise half the people on the pitch - and I'm not sure that they recognise each other either. What a bloody shambles our beloved club has become.

All these goings on and we only needed 2 centre halves, a right back and a keeper BEFORE the season started and we would have had a reasonable team. Assuming, that they were given a reasonable settled run as a team.

PJ is in the last chance saloon, if this lot do not produce the goods over the next half-dozen games he is gone. If they do make a go of it, then we can expect that most of the loans will disappear in January and a new 'short term building exercise' will start again to try to win enough points by the end of the season to keep us in the Championship. Another year wasted and no progress made.

It might help if PJ, SC and ME explained to customers (fans) what is going on and what the aims/targets are.

What this clown is doing is exactly what Norwich did a few years ago. They panicked, drafted in as many so called "experienced" loan players they could and that resulted in relegation. The vast majority of loan players couldnt give a s**t!!!

Apparently n'Daw has been shown the door, most of us never got to see him play, thats weird.
