Jewell Confirms Owner's Backing
Monday, 22nd Oct 2012 11:07

Town boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that owner Marcus Evans has reiterated that he is still fully behind him, as reported by TWTD yesterday. The pair spoke on Sunday afternoon, Jewell having said he was to consider his future in the wake of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Hull City.

Jewell told the club site: “I had another restless night on Saturday and then spoke to Marcus Evans on Sunday afternoon about the situation.

“We had a good chat and yet again, he gave me his 100 per cent backing. I couldn’t really ask for more support from the owner to be honest.”

The Town boss says he has also had received support from players, ex-players and managers elsewhere: “I’ve had text messages of support from the players as well, from other managers and from players that have played for this club — even some I have let go!

“That has meant a lot to me. I’ve spoken to the coaching staff and we’re now preparing for what is obviously a very important game on Tuesday against Derby.”

He admits that form has to pick up very soon, with speculation growing that Alan Curbishley is being lined-up as his potential successor: “I said a few things after Saturday’s game — perhaps in the heat of the moment but it’s clear that results on the pitch have not been good enough.

“I can only continue to do my best for this football club to turn things around. That has to happen very quickly though.”

He had to given his 100% backing, he hasn't agreed terms with the new manager yet and there's a match on Tuesday!

Had a look at StanJames betting for the favourites for the job. Gary Megsom and Nigel Worthington were in the top ten.

Come on Jewell turn it around!!!! Please !!!!!!

He has the players backing.....ahhhhh, he has Evans' backing.....ahhhhh, he even has players he let go backing......ahhhhh, he has other managers backing?!? Bloody course you do Paul, they want you to still be in charge when they play us!! You muppet!

Most importantly, you don't have the supporters backing, & sooner or later that will tell, I vow here & now I won't be paying again to see my beloved town play while you're still in charge.

tell you what il leave the retards to run our club i still wont be going to matches until we have a stable club looks like it the end for me i cant take the fact that 80% have no idea about our club just personal views about what they want and have no regard for our club we need the best available and certainly worthington megson dont have any pedigree really just alot of failure's i amnot even gonna comment on here anymore until jewell has gone and we have a real live contender with real qualifications and pedigree but this also has to end soon or our club is on the verge of entering the lower leagues

Mark Venus is No. 2 at Middlesboro. I wonder if he fancies a go on his own?

Another ex-player, Nicky Forster cutting his managerial teeth at Brentford and Dover. He fits the bill of being young and hungry.

Other young and hungry managers without a job, Nick Barmby, Paul Ince. Thats the trouble with yound and hungry, none of them have achieved much and it will be a big risk.

Mick McCarthy or Billy Davies would certainly steady the ship and get the best out of the players that we have.

Ive never ever said this or even thought this before but i cannot stand it any longer, Im not going tomorrow night..that's it...no more til this guy and his crappy coaching team are gone from my beloved club....Im a broken hearted man!!!

I've no objection to Paul Jewell as a person and if he turns this around properly and continues with it then I shall be only too happy to have him here.
The way things are looking though I'm not so sure that'll happen but please, PJ use those words of encourage as motivation, become a new man and get this club up where we belong (well, with the team we have at the moment at least pushing for a play off spot, I'm not talking about being where we were 30 years ago as where we belong) and prove all us doubters wrong and finally give us something to cheer about after 7 or so years of backwards steps.

I would go for Billy Davies as Jewell's successor. Between 2005 and 2011 Billy got Preston North End and Nottingham Forest into the play offs in every full season he was in charge, and got Derby promoted. That's an astonishing record. He knows the Championship inside out, he's available and would add some much needed Scottish grit to Portman Road

Ok, we have 7 points from 11 games and 4 of those in the first 2 games.

We have let in 21 so nearly 2 goals a game.

We were about 1 minute from being bottom on Saturday until Watford scored. It's beyond belief how he is still here and people support him.

Support the team but not him. After Saturday we have Birmingham and
palace away.

He has to go, or we will go down.

I'm not sure who's banging their head agaisnt a brick wall more... me reading this merri-go round crud which changes every 5mins or the bloomin' managment at ITFC. Perhaps we're being lined up for some shoddy fly on the wall reality show and they just want drama to keep the ratings up. I think for the time being I'm done with Town, not enjoying having the mick taken out of me anymore, sure many of you feel the same too. TTFN

How can Jewell say he is considering his future, then do a u-turn and say he is staying. What sort of messsage does that send out to the players? He has just signed 5 loans, how does he expect them to put in 100% when he says that after just a few game ssince they have signed?
He should have said nothing, carried on until after the two home games and then walked if he hadn't turned it around. This is now a total farce.

Even if he does win the next two (and he should with the players ITFC have!), he has still lost the fans and surely must go regardless.

I asked for Billy Davies after Keane, I will be asking Simon Clegg for Billy Davies after Jewell.

92.6% of the paying fans say Jewellio is not the one to take us forward,, in my book that is a Landslide !!!! but there again we are only the paying public,, so nobody in charge will take any notice of us,,, why Bother ?????

Looks how Evans stuck with Keane so long. Perhaps after Evans has just funded all these loan deals, it is no surprise that one away defeat later he doesn't sack the manager. I suspect Evans will line up a replacement first and keep Jewell until that point, and we may have passed the point of no return on that.

Let's keep the atmosphere positive tomorrow at least until near the end if we are losing. We so badly need the 3 points for our relegation battle and to give a new manager a more realistic chance of keeping us up.
