McCarthy Set for £1m Bonus if Town Stay Up Wednesday, 31st Oct 2012 08:58
Incoming Blues boss Mick McCarthy is understood to be set to earn £1 million-a-year at Town, plus another £1 million bonus if he keeps the Blues in the Championship this season. The Blues currently sit bottom of the division, five points from safety having failed to win in their last 12 matches.
As reported yesterday, McCarthy, his Wolves assistant Terry Connor and ex-Blues skipper Matt Holland are set to be confirmed as the new Town managerial team before the weekend.
A press conference to unveil the new team appears likely to take place on Thursday, although nothing has yet been officially announced.

"Mick McCarthy is understood to be set to earn £1 million-a-year at Town, plus another £1 million bonus if he keeps the Blues in the Championship this season."
Would be worth it, think of all the money we've spent on players like leadbitter, £2.5m? more than twice as much as securing survivial whch is huge for the club.
I just wonder how much longer this appointment is going to take ( I know it must not be rushed because it is so important ) but my Fear is that Hutch and co. are going to be in charge for the next very important game and we know what happened last time ????
Can't believe that the same people who whine about us not being willing to spend large amounts of cash on players, complain when we *do* propose to spend big on the guy whose job it is to put it all together. I'd always prefer to fly with an airline where the pilot gets paid more than the cabin crew.
its weird that a certain % of town fans feel that we need to go down to go up ! what a load of gonads ...we need to go up to go up ! ...when they have grasped this perhaps they would like to support our team... as we go up and win the play offs this year.
@cornishblu: you ask what sort of message does it send to incoming players that the manager is incentivised to finish at least 4th from bottom??? Surely players comingin will have some kind of inkling that 4th from bottom would be a good thing given the position we are now in?? Surely they wont be expecting winners medals at ITFC this season???
Why are some of you falling for it? Who says that we are going to pay Mick £1m + another? There are probably only 3 or 4 persons who know what we are going to pay and they certainly would not reveal it! So lets keep a grip on reality! Whatever M. Mc is getting paid, surely he is worth it if he can keep us up. Make no mistake, as several ITFC fans have said on here, it will be a disaster if we go down. League 1 is littered with teams who thought they could bounce straight back. Lets back the manager to sort out some of the cretins that wear the glorious blue and white shirt and hopefully we can stave off the inevitable looking relegation issue. The club needs it fans now more than ever before.
Any of the contenders could keep us up with this sort of incentive but is is actually true or even necessary to attract a manager who really wants the job? If Clegg was any good at negotiation he could get a better deal for the club.
ffs stop moaning and bitching,we have a new man in charge who will sort the wasters out and get the team playing for the shirt and about time too.The bad attitude of some players was first mentioned by Shane Supple some time ago and the repeated by RK,now it has to stop and McCarthy is just the right person to do it.
If this is true then I don't have a problem with it.
£1m is a drop in the ocean compared to the financial damage we will face by getting relegated. Also in order to attract a quality manager here we need to offer an incentive given the current state of the club. It's like business leaders being offered incentives to turn around failing businesses.
Disappointing already that nearly 25% of fans who have voted think MM is not the right man for the job - doesn't bode well and is symptomatic of the general negativity on this forum from so called fans - I really wonder what planet they live on and who they expected to get as manager - lets face it we are currently a very average second tier side - hopefully still second tier next season!! So let's get real folks and get right behind Mick and the team from the off...think positive for once...!!
If what you report turns out to be true (£1m bonus for staying in Championship) then it shows the dire straights that we are in and ME knows we are in - all due to Oly Clegg
