Lengthy Deals for New Duo
Wednesday, 31st Oct 2012 18:33

Town’s new management team of Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor will be joining the Blues on three-and-a-half year contracts, TWTD understands. Their appointments will be announced on Thursday with the duo taking control of Town for the first time when they face Birmingham at St Andrew’s on Saturday.

Former Blues skipper Matt Holland has been widely tipped for a coaching role but we understand that that the former midfielder, who played for McCarthy with Ireland, will not be on the new manager’s staff.

McCarthy was installed as an early favourite for the job vacated by Paul Jewell a week ago with talks taking place over the weekend and into the early part of this week.

Welcome Mick and Terry and the best of luck for the rest of the seaosn and beyond! I can understand why people wanted Matt to be involved and who knows, maybe he will end up with some role in the coming days but my view is a manager should always be able to appoint his own coaching staff.

Its sad about matt i was looking forward to seeing him at the club again.
Mick is a hard but fair manager and he is just the sort of man we need at the club at this moment.
Someone has got to sort out the players who want to play for the club with pride

and the ones that are over payed non tryers.
Roy keane was hard manager who took no prisoners if you fell out with him you were on your bike no matter who you were.
Mick is hard but fair with a little bit of feeling and rather then get rid of a player in the heat of the moment he will try and sort things out with them.
We will all grow to love big mick and in time he will get us into premier league .He will signplayers on contracts not loan them .I cant wait for the january sales when he will bring in some good players of his own.
Like him or loave him he is our new manager so lets forget about the redknapps and the shearers and the holloways mick is our manager now so lets get behind him sing his name out at matches and make him welcome and let him have his time to make our team great again.
Mick is a premier league manager and we are very lucky to have him.
look behind you norwich here we come.

I used to be a fan of MM because he did well with Ireland and Wolves, for a while but his recent media appearances haven't been very impressive he comes across as unimaginative and dull.
There are a lot of managers out there like PJ , Dowie and Coleman who have had some success but have a one method of playing and just buy, loan and sell players to get get a team that plays a certain way.
I hope that MM does well but looking at the our shambles of a first team squad its going to take some imagination to build a team I don't think he's got it.

I definitely got the impression Holland has got a job on MM's team. If that's the case he might not have been announced because Matt's got umpteen media/other contracts to sort out or smooth over before it's official.

I'm not sure why Burnhamblue if fretting that MM has walked before getting sacked — surely better than cynically hanging on for the payoff, or stupidly clinging on like a scouse limpet like PJ. There was just NO knocking him off that rock.

Issanblues- what are you talking about? He done loads for Wolves.
Got them to the prem! When he was sacked they got relegated. Says alot I think. Have faith and give the guy a chance!

Burnamanblue, I think it was way past your bedtime when you wrote that drivel. He was sacked by Wolves when they were out of the bottom 3. Sacked! Not walked!

He did a great job with Wolves and I am sure with the backing of the fans and the club will do a very good job here.

One thing though. Getting a tad ticked off with people moaning about him not playing the Ipswich way. Lets forget that please. The name of the game is points. If on the way to the points the team play decent football then great. If it means a target man and a bit of 'hoof' ball then so be it. 3 points is the objective.

Don't know if anyone has already asked this but, does anyone know is Mick will be living locally? I think makes a big difference in the psychological side of this and show the players that the management is really committed to the task.

Welcome MM & TC good luck.

well he aint been announced yet, but have a read on wiko whatsit, it looks as if he done a good job at wolves , he took over a team which sold alot of players, he rebuilt from youth and lower leques and eventualy got them promoted, thats exactly what he needs to do here as we have no permant core of team, we do have a good core but they aint played together as to many avv loan players have displaced are own, but they wernt any better than what we had, so no wonder we are a mess, but im sure if mick comes abord that he can save the club from relegation, we are going to have to go on one hell of a run me thinks as other teams near the bottom are starting to pull away, come on mick you can do it with our support, and dont ask me why me and debs have got tickets for birmingham, so hope he is here buy then as dont want to see another hutcho game lol

there are going to be fors & against on this appointment, the main thing is that he gets the players playing well again & believing in themselves. i think MM is wise enough to pick out the ones who are taking the p*** out of the system. this can only be a good thing :-) matty should have come on board tho :-(

one thing is certain tho....... he's taken on a club that has PRIDE & fiercly loyal fans & deserve the best.

Floridaboy- think you are supporting the wrong team! Unfortunately we'll have to put up with boring football for three years now.... Yes, he'll keep us up, but thats it...

interesting how there are only two views on here. one lot knows exactly what MM is going to do. he's going to kick a....s, he's going to sort out chopra he's going to get rid of the loanees etc etc. how on earth do they know this? the other lot point to his record and forecast bad times ahead. cynics? maybe. my definition of a cynic is someone who said we shouldn't trust hitler......

Why the love in for Matt Holland? Just cause he clapped the fans and ran around a lot does not suggest he would cut it as a coach or manager. If we want to appoint a club legend then promote Chris Kiwomya as he has done his badges and has experience of the youth / reserve setup.
