Lengthy Deals for New Duo
Wednesday, 31st Oct 2012 18:33

Town’s new management team of Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor will be joining the Blues on three-and-a-half year contracts, TWTD understands. Their appointments will be announced on Thursday with the duo taking control of Town for the first time when they face Birmingham at St Andrew’s on Saturday.

Former Blues skipper Matt Holland has been widely tipped for a coaching role but we understand that that the former midfielder, who played for McCarthy with Ireland, will not be on the new manager’s staff.

McCarthy was installed as an early favourite for the job vacated by Paul Jewell a week ago with talks taking place over the weekend and into the early part of this week.

and I would like to add that the club sack Chopra for his outburst and serious lack of passion for our great club.

And ask for the 250,000 quid we gave him to bail him out of his debts.

He could have been good but imo he needs to go along with a few others.

compensation would not be an issue according to Clegg, so why no Holloway? opting for the cheap one again!
I see another 18 to 20 months of signing mediocre players because that's all we pay and Mm going the same way as Keane and Jewell, Clegg/evans are the problem.
I wish the new duo well and will fully support them and hope I'm wrong. coyb!

ITFC just officially tell us that MM and TC are our new Management Team! I would be very happy as a STH, after the last 3 incumbents, MacGilton a novice, Keane no mates, Jewell a weak coaching team.
With some good coaching and sensible team formation, we still have players that could do a job, but some need to come in and some 'bad apples' need to leave unless you can change their attitude and desire.

Just not sure. Short term lift one can expect, sure he'll keep us up this season and get his £million bonus. Longer term, play offs, sniff of the Prem..., don't think it'll happen. Curbs the better bet, especially if Holland came with that option only.

I consider that McCarthy is the right person to steady the ship.

He is experienced and was unfortunate to lose his job.

Holloway has done wonders at Blackpool. However, he can be volatile and this resulted in the parting of ways at his previous clubs.

markyitfc. what clegg said is that paying compensation to a club wouldnt be a problem, not thatpayng any amount of compensation wouldnt be a prob. so clearly blackpool wanted more than we willing to pay. & before you say they only wanted £500,000, we dont know that for sure. just what been said on here. besides, my guess is that he was only a back up plan in case we couldnt agree a deal with mccarthey, who i firmly believe was the 1st choice, which is why this apppointment happened now. if they hadnt been talking with him prior to this week i dont think it would have been concluded till some time next week.

Just want this done and dusted now because of how big a game Saturday is. I'm confident Big Mick will sort us out and Terry Connor will be a bonus, McCarthy described Terry Connor as 'family' when TC took over from him at Wolves which shows how much of a bond they both have. Heard McCarthy say before that him and TC were always disagreeing with each other at Wolves which is healthy in my opinion, shows they will work out things together. Not sure Hutchings and Jewell had this relationship, think hutchings just went with whatever Jewell asked. Shame about Matty but the main thing is we have a manager in place, and a bloody good one of that. All the best Mick and TC.,

We have the players to get us out of this mess, you just need to play them.
Loach, Hyam and Carson.

Holland will get a job, we understand.

He will select and train a player to run round the perimeter of the pitch, at the end of each home match, with his hands aloft, clapping and looking as if he means it.

McCarthy, Holloway, Uncle Tom Cobley and all...pick whom you like. Won't make a blind bit of difference.

Agree with Hatman - Curbishley would have been a much better bet to rebuild the club in a manner befitting of the club's traditional values. I do expect MM to be reasonably successful in the short-medium term - any manager worth his salt ought to do better than the last 2 incumbents, and although I'm not 100% sure he'll keep ITFC up this season, I would certainly expect him to have the club back amongst the challengers for a Premiership place within 3 years (maybe sooner if Championship status is retained come May). Where I think the club are missing out is the potential legacy that Curbishley could provide - I really can't see it with McCarthy, but if he ultimately delivers just one season in the Premiership then I guess everyone will be eternally grateful.

Anyway, it now looks like its all water under the bridge, so I agree that the bickering must stop and everyone must get behind Mick & his team. No barracking, please, not even for Chopra if Mick ever gives him a shirt - getting on the backs of any of the players isn't going to help the cause. Lets just give our full support to whoever represents the club on and off the pitch in order to give them the best possible chance of turning things around sooner rather than later....

No Matt Holland? Mr McCarthy does not get my vote of confidence, another manager who walked before he got sacked. If he keeps us up fair play but until then I still feel a poor appointment, yet another manger who has lead a team the Premier League only to walk away, get sacked whatever. Good luck with it McCarthy.
