Lengthy Deals for New Duo
Wednesday, 31st Oct 2012 18:33

Town’s new management team of Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor will be joining the Blues on three-and-a-half year contracts, TWTD understands. Their appointments will be announced on Thursday with the duo taking control of Town for the first time when they face Birmingham at St Andrew’s on Saturday.

Former Blues skipper Matt Holland has been widely tipped for a coaching role but we understand that that the former midfielder, who played for McCarthy with Ireland, will not be on the new manager’s staff.

McCarthy was installed as an early favourite for the job vacated by Paul Jewell a week ago with talks taking place over the weekend and into the early part of this week.

Well at last we know for sure who has been appointed! It will be interesting who will play on Saturday and what formation he chooses! By appointing Mick Mc Carthy and Terry Connor this will sort the men out from the boys. Won't be long before we actually know who and who doesn't want to play for us !!
I still think that there will be some kind of role for Matty Holland. Will have to wait and see on that one.I like the comments regarding Mick being an Aquarian like Sir Bobby and Sir Alf. Lets's hope there will be a Sir Mick !!!

Bit confused now as just been on Sky Sports News and they have confirmed it.

Great news though and lets all get behind him and the club now so we can move off the bottom of this league.

I am really pleased that we have secured the services of such a high calibre manager as Mick McCarthy. This shower wont know what's hit them over the next couple of weeks as Mick gets to work on sorting out the wheat from the chaff. My only disapointment is that he wasn't brought in at the end of last season as he now has a huge job on his hands. Welcome to Ipswich Mick!

He may keep us in the Championship but I will not expect any more success than that until Evans allows more money to be spent...especially wages. 15th next season, and the season after that until we can add more quality to our squad.

Let's hope McCarthy is confirmed soon. A 3.5 year contract sounds good to me, and I hope the club have a proper long-term plan to go with him and invest over that time. We kept the purse strings so tight in the summer to save money, and it has ended up costing us a fortune with the loan signings and change of management team!

Have to say a bit disappointed Holland isn't in the coaching set-up, a few of our home grown youngsters could learn a thing or two from him.
Glad it's been confirmed but why has it not surprised me that he's come here on a lot of money, might as well give him the million bonus now (money for nothing), surely when you appoint a a manager you have full confidence in him that you don't have to fork out this giant carrot in front of his nose (bent one as it is).

How does TWTD know all this? there's been nothing official from ITFC yet, why not just wait! as for the 1 Million bonus this is utter tosh were are the facts coming from regarding this????

McCarthy would not come unless there were assurances on cash from Evans- it looks like he has held all the cards during the negotation- 3 1/2year deal, staying up bonus, god knows what else - so he will he will have the owners backing. Fair Play League has I think been a smoke screen during the last year of Jewells reign- Who really would back that idiot with money?
However... I think that McCarthy has shown the ability to be able to identify and sign lower league gems (Jarvis, Ebanks Blakke, Ekobi- I think these are correct) so the pressure on wages will be less than signing prem league toss pots looking for a cushy ride on their way down

2 of the last 9 managers to get promotion have done it before Warnock, Allardyce so this is no golden ticket but we have to be optimistic.

@wickets great call.Holland has the intelligence, experience and charisma to be a great CEO.
As for McCarthy.Good solid manager with a stronger CV than both Keane and Jewell who were both for me poor choices.
I really feel this could finally be a turning point for the pride of East Anglian and i'm backing him 100%.
Already excited about the future and i have every faith that we will stay up.
Realistically its not going to happen overnight but clearing some dead wood and a string of reasonable results will see us climb the table.
Hey he might even play some of the players in their favoured positions!!COYB.

Should have stuck with Jewell. A fortnight in the Priory would have sorted him out.

Hope the dynamic duo are ready to kick the dead wood out. The seniors who have (helped) us to this position are going to have some work to do to get our fofgiveness let alone mm. mick has my support and like how he has always told it straight. COYB.

Given Mck McCarthy's Republic of Ireland links with Mark Kennedy it will be interesting to see if he is retained on the coaching staff.

A few hundred thousand extra on salaries over the summer and we would have been spared this farce, and Mr Evans would have been about a million pounds better off

Well..........welcome.

It's not the appointment I wanted, but he's probably a good man to prevent relegation.

I don't expect it to be pretty, but anyhow good luck to him.

PS: 3.5 years is damned expensive if things don't work out.

A great appointment and excellent to give them both long contracts.

As for holland a friend met him in America last week where he was on holiday with his family and he said he was enjoying his media work.

Great manager to have imo. Forget Matt Holland and focus on the positives please.
TWTD supporters should now focus on getting behind the team.
Blue is in my veins........
