Supporters Club Welcomes McCarthy to Town
Thursday, 1st Nov 2012 09:38

The official Supporters Club has welcomed the appointment of new manager Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor.

Chair Elizabeth Edwards said: “You would back Mick McCarthy to take on any bushtucker challenge in I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.

“He is said to be a disciplinarian, he’s got a good record in management, he just might be exactly what we need. Town may no longer have celebrity players, but we certainly need someone to get us out of here.”

She added: “McCarthy has played at all levels of the game, and managed at all the levels where we hope still to be playing. His reputation is for ‘no nonsense’, something that fans will welcome — and I am pretty sure the same goes for most players, who will want to know where they stand.

“He did have a famous run-in with a former Town manager, of course, at the 2002 World Cup, but that’s a long time ago now, and it feels like just a footnote in football history. He will be joined by Terry Connor who has the advantage of having worked with McCarthy at Wolves.

“McCarthy has twice taken clubs out of the Championship in the right direction. If he achieves that this season, there will be clamour for the Co-Op to step aside for us to complete stand names after Town heroes.

“More realistically, we’ll be looking for him to get the best out of our squad, unearth some genius signings in January and allow us to luxuriate in a mid-table position that right now is about as far as we dare dream.”

McCarthy's appointment is set to be formalised at a Portman Road press conference at 5pm today.

Meanwhile, the club has called off today's Meet the Players signing session in Planet Blue due to the managerial appointment.

Why, in the middle of half term, have we cancelled the Meet the Players signing session? Can we not do two things at the same time?

Good job they've called off the "meet the players signing" for today, they might end up getting more than a request for autographs. Lazy scrotes, Mick will give em all a kick up the 'ariss.

Mick the Kick!

They've cancelled meeting the players thing presumably because they don't want the players comments before the managers had his press conference?

What an embarrassment she is to us.

Liz Edwards has no standards evident, this is what happens when you let somebody who isn't an Echelon speak in public.

Well we all know what she's been watching

As usual she is making absolutely no sense at all. How on earth did a poor person like Liz Edwards become a spokesperson?

Esteemed_Canon added 10:55 - Nov 1
The Esteemd Canon's is amazed that people continue this cost obsessed type in, we need somebody with gravitas like 26_Paz to replace her and bring a far superior knowledge of football with him.

As usual Eteemed_Canon makes perfect sense. She has no standards evident and should be replaced by a man of higher social standing who will bring more gravitas to the role. Referencing lay class TV shows is not the direction we should be heading in. Only the great unwashed will understand such references, which will discourage the echelons we are attempting to attract to the club.

Has Liz been on the G&T?

That is by FAR the most obtuse, unusual and, quite frankly, SURREAL 'official' statements I have EVER read!

For me, it's really rather embarrassing to issue a statement of this kind. Who is it meant to appeal to?

These are days for jokes and, ahem, 'humour' but rather gritty realism and professionalism.

A missed opportunity I feel...

Don't worry people, normal service will be resumed shortly when the 'Supporters Club' complains about people in the dugout standing up and making too much noise during the game.

I believe, at the Supporters Club AGM, Liz was voted in again, unopposed by those who attended. To be fair, those there just cared about what Clegg had to say, so Robert Mugabe could have been elected, and no one would have cared.

“You would back Mick McCarthy to take on any bushtucker challenge in I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here." What the hell has that got to do with managing a football club? Shall we just go for Kerry Katona or Christopher Biggins as physios?

I want a supporters club that speaks for the fans. Asks the right questions

Sorry but the official supporters club is the football version of train spotters. She was the one who accused a lot of us for being moaners. So if it was down to her we would still have Jewell in place.

The Supporters Club is one of those strange things. We all know the club needs one, but no one wants to run it.
