Preston Target Scotland Sunday, 23rd Dec 2012 10:15
League One Preston North End want out-of-favour Blues striker Jason Scotland on loan in January. The 33-year-old hasn’t played at all since Mick McCarthy took over as boss, although was on the bench during his first three games.
But has now the former Trinidad and Tobago international has dropped behind Ronan Murray in the pecking order, the Republic of Ireland U21 international having been included in the 21-man travelling party which made the trip to Leeds last week ahead of the ex-Swansea and Wigan man.
Scotland, whose contract is up at the end of the season, was also left out of the reserves side which faced a Nike Academy XI in a friendly last week with McCarthy fielding fringe players he felt were nearer to his first team.
Meanwhile, one of this morning’s tabloids claims the Blues will face opposition from Turkish side Kayserispor when they look to secure midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker on a longer-term contract next month.
On Friday, the Blues boss had praise for the former Bolton, Aston Villa, West Ham and Wimbledon man: “Nigel Reo-Coker gives us that experience and he’s good around the place, he’s a good pro and he’s played well when he’s played.”
The 20-year-old, who famously was the first to break the news of former manager Paul Jewell's departure, tweeted: "I love Ipswich, [I will] never forget this country."

Don't want too many "players in and out", as feel that the constant turnover in the squad ("churn" is a good word) has been one of the factors contributing to our poor form over the last few seasons. A bit of stability - albeit with perhaps not the most highly-ranked players - would be a good thing, as McCarthy himself seems to be saying.
Good pro is Jason, feel sorry for him really.personally rather have him on the bench than chopra who quite frankly has offered practically nothing all bar off field grief this season! As for reo-joker,wasn't any competition for him in the summer, has done nothing since he's been with us also, not at all bothered if he stayed or not to be honest, can't believe there would be that many takers for him anyway!
I feel Scotland has been unlucky. No worse than Chopra in my opinion. However, at 33 his best years are clearly behind him and if not part of MM's long-term plans, would be best for all parties to move on.
Nigel Reo-Coker - can leave as far as I'm concerned. Very poor and clearly only with us to get fit.
Finally, best wishes to Cheick Kourouma, although I'm afraid I agree with MM - nowhere near good enough for us. Saw him play a couple of times (not competitive matches mind) - and looked out of his depth. I still find it remarkable that Clegg and PJ spent so much time on trying to sign someone who wasn't up to it!
Chopra 2 very late on winning goals this season, i seem to remember now thats a big contribution for me,would not wont to lose those 4 points now!! Good luck Jason you always made a good effort to shoot and hit the target when given the chance but about the right time to move on.
I think we will see a lot of change in the squad with I suspect more going out than coming in.
I dont think we will see Sidebottom, Moshni, Scotland here post January and question marks remain over whether we will be able to sign Campbell or Henderson.
I think he will try to get Reo Coker but I agree with everyone on here, he hasn't done enough to earn anything and the fact we have Drury and Hyam, we should let him go.
I've always preferred Scotland to Chopra, far more energy and commitment. But I guess we need to keep Chopra on the books if only to see a return of the monies made available to him to bail him out of his gambling debts.
