Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that keeper Stephen Henderson will not be involved at Cardiff on Saturday, but due to an ankle injury suffered in training rather than due to West Ham recalling him. The Irishman was due to play the final game of his three-month spell with the Blues this weekend.

McCarthy says there are no other new fitness worries with midfielder Andy Drury now back having been out with a virus: “Andy’s trained, he’s fine, but we’ve one injury with Hendo, who twisted his ankle yesterday. His loan period is coming to end anyway on Saturday and he’s not available, he’ll be missing.”

The Town boss confirmed that Scott Loach will keep his place in the side: “Scott did play well [at Aston Villa], I was certainly impressed with him last weekend, it was a good performance by him, so he gets his opportunity again. Whether it’s by default or not, he’ll be in nets again.”

Whether Henderson returns for a second spell has not yet been settled with McCarthy hinting that he might look to bring in a permanent signing due to West Ham’s insistence on a recall clause: “He may do, although he could be out for a couple of weeks with his ankle. But I keep saying it leaves me a little bit exposed bearing in mind he’s got a 24-hour recall.

“But I’ll talk to Sam Allardyce about that. Hendo wants to come back and I want to have him back, but the recall [leaves me exposed], and I understand it from West Ham’s point of view and they understand mine, they can’t take it out of it and I’d like to have one that’s mine to be used and not to be going back anywhere.”

And whilst there is a big thing about Loach "being a Blue" that cuts nothing when it comes to assessing ability/ consistency. I want him to do well , but tbh none of the GK's we have had on our books overe recent years have been all that good.In fact "average" is an accurate description for all of them, Loach included.

wickfordtractorboy added 16:34 - Jan 10 I'm a big fan of Scott Loach and think the way Jewell brought him in, bigged him up saying he'd been after him for years then dropped him after costing us one game was farcical, but I actually wish we still had Hendo this weekend. Playing well in the cup is one thing, but I don't think Scotty will be helped by the pressure of returning and needing to impress in a game against the top of the league side. I feel its an unneccessary trip to the firing line for the lad. Would much rather he took over next week and built it up over a few games! Hopefully he faces up to it and impresses like last week but I'm worried for his career here if he doesn't.

daniel9624 added 17:03 - Jan 10 Nothing wrong with Loach at all, not as if he has made a series of big clangers. Should be given a chance, then sign either an older keeper to cover, or a youngster for the future from lower down, even if on loan to have a look at him.

comeonthegoodtimes added 17:45 - Jan 10 Daniel9624, I do agree that we need to look to the future and a young keeper would be good to build up although, at this present time I feel that we need to get a good keeper in with experience ie camp. Gilks, all the best to he do though as I feel he has done well for us whilst on loan and also I do like loach and feel that he is a number 1 in the making. Give him another season or so and he will be quality.

If mm deems loach good enough, give him his chance. If not,.bring someone in,on a PERMANENT deal, asap. Defenders need stability behind them, and the fans need some affinity with a keeper, loach or otherwise

Ipswichbusiness added 19:53 - Jan 10 Almost all of us wanted Scott to come to this club and were pleased when he did. The defence under Mr Jewell was shambolic and did not give him much of a chance to prove himself. He had one bad game against Cardiff and then Mr Jewell went off and signed a loan 'keeper. For what it's worth, I think Scott is a decent 'keeper and deserves a chance behind a properly organised defence (as we have now). For me the priority is to sign another centre-back.

Post kelvin Davis I remember Ian Alexander was signed on a free under magilton but then had a toogoodtoturndown offer from rangers later that season. 2008/09 was it? Then we had a loan keeper from derby who was ok for a season but his name escapes me?
