Drury Not Ruling Out Crawley Return
Wednesday, 22nd May 2013 09:01

Released midfielder Andy Drury says he’s not ruling out a return to former loan club Crawley Town. The 29-year-old spent a successful three-month spell at Broadfield during 2011/12, making 15 starts and scoring four goals.

Drury, who learnt that he wouldn't be offered new terms by the Blues towards the end of the season, told Crawley News that he’s hoping to sign a long-term deal with a new side this summer: "I'm looking for a club for the next three or four years now. I just want to play as much football as I can.

"I played 30 games for Ipswich this season but I felt I should have played more, but that is up to the manager.

“I'd consider playing in League One if the opportunity is right. I've just had a newborn baby so staying down south would suit me better."

Steve Evans was Crawley’s manager during his loan spell in a season in which the Red Devils won promotion from League Two, but Drury says he knows current boss Richie Barker and believes he has done well since taking charge last summer: "From what I've seen he has done a good job at Crawley and before that did a good job at Bury.

"I had a great time at Crawley but right now, with a newborn baby, I haven't had a lot of time to think about my plans.

"There are quite a few clubs interested from what I hear, but it's nice to know the Crawley fans still talk about me. I wouldn't rule anything out."

Drury made 46 starts and 18 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring twice, having been Paul Jewell's first Town signing when he moved from Luton for £150,000 in January 2011.

I like him , he did well in terms of effort when he played for us ,just lacks the effectiveness of a very good championship centre mid , ie assists , goals , or ability to break up play and protect defence like a hyam or an ndaw for example

you are not good enough for championship level, so i would do more than just 'consider' a league one move if i was you!!!

Can't fault his effort and for £150k he gave us two years good service really. Probably isn't cut out for Championship but would be a good signing for any League One club.

Davin44. Interesting then that a Northern Championship side want to sign him. Our record with him playing is far better over his time with us, than without him, but hey, we don't want to let facts get in the way

Can't slate him, we haven't had a decent midfielder since David Norris.

Ridgeboy83, I think you've missed superblues9's point about the baby. Any baby that you've "just had" is newborn, therefore describing it as such is a tautology.

Back to the football: good luck to you, Andy, wherever you end up. Can't fault your effort or attitude during the time you've been with Town.

Has he got a newborn baby? You wouldn't know, because he doesn't mention it much............

Good luck to him though; I thought he was a decent hard working player, but Mick will be looking for that bit more quality to try and get us promoted.

I always wanted him to do well and he showed a quite good understanding partnership with Hyam but....

...30 games last season!!? I can barely remember him playing 1!

As I've said previously, this guy gave 110% all of the time - even when 5-0 down - so can't fault him for that. But for me he wasn't quite good enough and would see a move to a division one club around about his level - where he can compete and be one of the better division one players.

I wish him well. But can see why he wasn't offered a new deal.

Fatboy - Were the words "Just Had" mentioned? Just says with a newborn.

Ridgeboy83, they were the first time he mentioned it (fourth paragraph), not that it matters much! When does the football start again?

When he made his home debut, against Hull I think, he was the best player on the pitch for an hour but looked a bit tired for the last half hour. Always thought he gave 100% and tried to play the right way. Honestly think he'll end up at a Championship club. Good luck to him.

Did well when he got into the side with Hyam but then failed to kick IMO. Decemy Championship player and tries hard but correct decision for club and player to let him move on.

Good squad player imho. He is competitive and has a very good touch. I have seen far worse than him in the Ipswich midfield. Good Luck wherever you end up

Good shout compton. Effectively three assists..

By the way why are we letting JET go? And Chopra for that matter...

I agree with chris makin, but would make 1 amendment, we haven't had a decent attacking midfielder since Norris. Hyam in my eyes has double or tripled his value this season. On the field and cheque book

Interesting Davin44 is on -17 and Michael11 is +10 when they both say the exact same thing!

And IMO Drury was a good industrious midfielder. He and Hyam did great for 2nd half of last season and that was with PJ in charge!!
