Town Set to Miss Out on Hunt
Sunday, 26th May 2013 21:02

Town are set to miss out on the signature of out-of-contract Wolves winger Stephen Hunt, who we understand is also a target of Leicester, Middlesbrough and a German second tier side.

The 31-year-old Irishman was approached by the Blues but TWTD has learnt that significantly better terms are on offer at the other three interested clubs.

Hunt, who missed much of Wolves’ second successive relegation season due to injury, played under Mick McCarthy at Molineux, the Town boss having signed him from Hull City for £3 million in the summer of 2010.

Not to dissapointed we've missed out on him, but it's worrying how most of our targets seem to be going elsewhere

Personally i think this is great news...just hope we're not going to miss out on all Mick's targets though. The time to invest is now Mr Evans!!

Mark Fish, steady pal, we aint sunk, maybe if he was a better player, we may of offered a better deal, he's 30 plus and injury prone!

Not bothered about missing out on Hunt.

Am bothered if the terms offered to other targets are also lower than anywhere else. FFP only seems to be causing us a problem at the moment!

No big deal, lets move on, thats football.

Personally I think his wages would have represented a large chunk of our budget on a 30 somthing that hasn't played his best football for at least the last 3 years.

I would rather we keep looking for a rough diamond in the lower leagues rather than this high risk signing.

Not fussed. I'd rather have players who don't choose their preferred club based on "terms on offer". Come to Town if you want to play for us.

I'm ready to agree with my posters here, slightly concerned that if this is true; we have a similar situation as last year. I posted then that maybe Evans has a few financial problems, I really hope I'm wide of the mark; but as regencyblue has aid; we don't appear to compete. I suppose we'll know soon enought as MM won't stand messing around. Glad we missed out on Hunt though, well past it. COYB!!!

Would rather not hear about targets, just tell us when we've signed someone.

He's a decent player, more than good enough for the Championship & at 31 would have been a good signing on a 2 year contract with an option of a 3rd year. He is as hard working as Martin, but more direct & with an end product. As for those saying that he is injury PRONE just because the article points out that he missed much of last season, perhaps you should do some research on his career & also on the dictionary definition of the word before commenting.
Having said all that, I would not have expected us to be able to pay him anything like what he was on, nor would I want us to. If others are happy to pay him a wage well above our structure allows, well then good luck to him, we'll look elsewhere. We do want Mick to find some young unknown talented players, but we also need to have a few experienced proven players in the side & I am more than happy for Mick to make enquiries about the likes of Hunt and hopefully persuade some to lower their wage demands.
