QPR Release Campbell
Friday, 7th Jun 2013 16:03

Former Town loanee DJ Campbell is reported to be amongst the players to have been released by recently relegated QPR. Campbell, 31, was with the Blues between October and January and ended the season as Town’s top scorer with 10 goals from 17 games.

The striker recently said that he was weighing up a number of options and at the time wasn’t ruling out remaining at Loftus Road: "We're speaking to a few people at the minute, as well as QPR.”

In February, with Blues manager Mick McCarthy having expressed his interest in keeping him, Campbell joined Blackburn on loan, a deadline day permanent switch having failed to go through in time.

However, his season was curtailed in early March by a foot injury after only five starts, two sub appearances and no goals for the Lancastrians.

Whether McCarthy will renew his interest in Campbell remains to be seen, however, an approach seems unlikely until Michael Chopra, who along with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has been made available for transfer, has found a new club.

Meanewhile, former loanee Giovani Dos Santos has been linked with a move to the MLS and the LA Galaxy from Real Mallorca, who he joined last summer.

Someone kidnap Chopra and dump him on an island somewhere in the Pacific. That way we can sign DJ and he can escape his loan sharks (in favour of the great white variety). Would suit all.

No thanks.

Despite how good he was on loan, i don't think i'd sign him on a permanent basis. I reckon if Mick does still want another striker, we should go for Ebanks-Blake instead

Sign Dos Santos up!!! I know it would be pretty much impossible but what a great marquee signing he would be.

Think DJs wages would be a stumbling block so don't expect to see him here. Will always be grateful for his contribution last season.

Sign up DJ he would have been a striker scoring 20 goals in a season if he had stayed with us!!! Plus Ipswich will be a stronger choice because he enjoyed his time here unlike at Blackburn

Will always appreciate his 7 open play goals and the 3 pens.

Would seriously not want us paying over the odds for him (wages).

Thanks for the goals last season, but sorry to say you are yesterdays man DJ. Wages would be too high anyway. Wouldn't be surprised to see him go to Palace, and link up with his old Blackpool boss Holloway, especially as they've lost Murray to injury for months

Would only take him on small wages. If Chopra sods off like we hope then he'd be a good replacement but think there's better options available.

Get him.Changed last season along with the defensive improvements. Never have i heard ITFC fans sing about a striker since the likes of Marcus Stewart and David Johnson. Much needed if we are serious about a promotion push, sign him up Mick - all new signings are on 2 yr deals so offer 2yrs.

Shropshire..... 'promotion push'?

Yeah, thats half the problem, the good old promotion push. Lets make signings to be competitive and look towards the top 10, with the playoffs being a bonus.

'Promotion push' signings such as Bullard, JET, Bowyer, Chopra, Martin, Leadbitter et al rarely seem to work out for us. In fact they generally tie up wages that could be used for 3-4 players.

No thanks DJ.

Great while he was with us, did as much as anyone to keep us in this league, I think he will be looking for more money than we could offer him.
When he left us he went to Blackburn, you only go to Blackburn for one thing and its not football or chickens.

Marshalls, sorry but after the great finish to last season we should definitely be looking at a 'Promotion Push'. - play offs at least! Those you mentioned were all Jewell & Keane signings, when the attitude of the players/signings was very poor. Like i said, the deal must be right, dont pay over the odds, but at least try.

Im sure Mick will be all for 'looking at a Top Ten finish' ???? - i think not.

Have some ambition!

..... could still be worth a shot - on sensible money of course, and a two year contract.

A natural goal poacher - he will always score goals at this level - just like Kevin Phillips.

..... wouldn't be disappointed to see him back here to be truthful.

Sign him up now.....

Offer him £15K a week on a 2 year deal = 1.5m spent

Same as buying him for 1 million (which he is worth) and paying £5K per week (£1.5m Spent.)

When looking at it like that, well worth the money!!!

Would love to see him back but only if chopra gone. Use chopra savings to fund dj on a straight swap basis.

We have Murphy, McGoldrick and Nouble (not to mention Chopra and JET for now). That gives room for Marriott to push on. And we can pull in a loaner if we need reinforcements. This is not where the money should be spent. So, DJ, thanks for the goals at a critical time, but good luck elsewhere.

he was great last year but with murphy taylor mcgoldrick nouble and marriot i cant see we need another striker.
we can only play 2 so were gonna have 3 spare as it is

I think he would be worth a two year deal, if he was available on sensible wages. No-one should overlook the fact that he is a proven goal- scorer at this level - and Chopra isn't- and that, having been released by QPR, he might well be more amenable to discussions about a sensible deal

I think he's a good player and was superb in his time here but that was under totally different circumstances to now.

He's 31 and not worth the wage investment at that age. Even if he stays injury free your only really looking at another 2 years tops.

Wish all the very best though, for a short time he was a fantastic servant to the club.

He's history, don't really want to know what he's doing now. We were well down his pecking order till he ran out of clubs. My future hero is allready inhouse, i'll let you decide who you think yours is.

No ta.

Wrong side of 30, wage demands too high, and the way he walked out of negotiations with Hull leaves me questioning his character.
