Blues Weighing Up Lee Contract
Friday, 26th Jul 2013 20:22

TWTD understands that boss Mick McCarthy is giving serious consideration to offering former striker Alan Lee a contract for the season ahead. Lee, 34, returned to the club earlier in the summer to begin coaching in the academy, but as reported this morning has been training with the first team this week.

Former Ireland international Lee was released by Championship Huddersfield Town at the end of last season after three years with the Terriers.

The Blues still have four frontline strikers despite having off-loaded Michael Chopra this week — David McGoldrick, Daryl Murphy, Frank Nouble and Paul Taylor — and we understand Lee is viewed as an additional option as cover or as an impact substitute.

The 6ft 2in tall frontman started his career with Aston Villa and spent time on loan with Torquay and Port Vale while with the Villans.

Galway-born Lee subsequently moved on to Burnley, Rotherham and Cardiff before joining the Blues for a fee £100,000 in January 2006. The striker, who is based at Dedham, went on to make 96 starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring 34 goals, prior to moving on to Crystal Palace in August 2008.

While with the Eagles he spent a short spell on loan at Norwich City towards the end of the 2008/09 relegation season.

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Bilel Mohsni has signed a two-year deal with Rangers, having left Southend at the end of last season.

What we need is more skill, flair and goal scoring threat not another big lump to knock people off the ball as we already have that in Murph and Frank. He scored ONE goal in the Championship last season (21 appearances) so I don't care if he is happy to play for free or how highly you rated him back on 07/08 he ain't good enough now so if we get a load of injuries then we use the loan system and get someone in who is. I'm delighted to see him among the training staff as he can show the youngsters a thing or two about guts and determination but keep him out of the match day squad.

Billblue im not a hypocrit, only reason i suggested it would divide the fanbase is because if you read thru im not the only one who has been negative about it. Yet i havent personally slagged the guy off like many did with chopra. I seem to have been marked down more than most. But hey ho

It's really up to Mick isn't it, what happened to all the "In Mick We Trust" posters ? well I for one do trust in Mick's judgement, so if he brings Alan Lee back, then it's ok with me, I always liked him anyway.

Great in the air so if the chips are down and we're out if ideas I can see the sense in this move. However, massive questions over his fitness. Watched a couple of Huddersfield games last year and he looked off the pace!

Jimmy86, what I was trying to say was" put yourself in the guys shoes he is just earning his living so how would you feel if people slagged you off when you changed jobs". Sorry if I upset you though, it wasn't my intention. One more week to go then we can all settle down.

Can't see why not if Mick thinks he can slot into the squad and provide some cover. It's not like he'd be costing us much and I always liked him.

I always liked him when he was here, & was unhappy when we let him go. As a super sub for emergencies then where's the harm?

Why are there so many people posting on this thread? it's Alan Lee, even if we do sign him he's hardly going to be used that much maybe coming on as a sub at the end of each league cup/reserve game :)

Well he has certainly got a lot of response on here,if nothing else.
Think he was a good influence in the dressing room and he'll never lose that so whats the harm he is here anyway.

Alan lee great player and finisher. Good target man . Ideal late in a hgame to hold the ball up and also be a right handful to the oppositions defence.

He was only on loan for about a month a t norwich and that was several years after he left the club ! get over it !!!
