N'Daw Moves to Greece
Wednesday, 4th Sep 2013 22:30

Former Blues loanee Guirane N’Daw has joined Greek top flight side Asteras on a one-year deal. The Senegalese international spent the whole of 2012/13 on loan at Portman Road and was released by his parent club, French side St Etienne, at the end of June.

The 29-year-old’s agent recently said that his player would be interested in a return to Portman Road but boss Mick McCarthy played down the chances of N'Daw's return, saying he had already assembled his squad, citing Cole Skuse as the one-time Birmingham loanee’s replacement.

As we reported last week, in addition to Asteras and other Greek sides, Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday were also recently showing interest in signing N’Daw.

The midfielder made 32 starts and two sub appearances for Town, scoring his only goal in the 3-1 home victory over Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, we understand the Blues have been keeping tabs on Barnet winger Keanu Marsh-Brown, who was claimed to be the subject of a Town enquiry shortly before the transfer window closed on Monday.

While that report overstated the Blues’ interest, Marsh-Brown, 21, was the reason development coach Mark Kennedy was recently spotted at the Hive, while other members of the club’s scouting staff have also watched the Skrill Premier club this season.

One-time Fulham youngster Marsh-Brown faced the Blues during their 1-0 pre-season victory over the Bees in July, his cross leading to the home side's first-half penalty.

Elsewhere, former Blue Owen Garvan has reacted angrily to being left out of Crystal Palace's 25-man Premier League squad by manager Ian Holloway, tweeting: “I’ll be here longer than he will… trust me.”

Garvan, who only signed a new two-year contract with the Eagles in the summer, has already been linked with a loan move to Bolton, whose manager is former Palace boss Dougie Freedman.

Now, there's definitely an Owen Garvan shaped hole in our midfield sitting next to Cole Skuse.

Go on Mick, give Ollie a ring, and once you've deciphered his west country bluster, persuade him to give us Garvan on loan for a year. On the cheap as well.

Garvan would be a great addition to our squad right now. I for one would welcome him back on a year's loan-contract. Would put him on the team sheet before Hyam any day.

Skuse and Garvan would make a good combo in the centre- with Hyam in a super-sub role.

Thanks for last season big G. Will always remember him as the guy who gashed his head badly, but a bandage on and carried on playing

N'Daw did well for us last season, when we really needed his presence in the team. I thank him for that & wish him well in Greece. However, we do have Skuse now, who is a better footballer in my opinion & we need creativity in the middle now more than strength & defensive qualities. Within the story above, a Garvan type player would be a better bet for the club alright, the fact that he is quick to turn to twitter when annoyed doesn't impress me much though.

Garvan's lack of pace is an issue.

Garvan's lack of work rate is a bigger issue. Was always in and out of the Palace team since he's been there. Don't Believe the Hype

We should have been straight onto N'Daw's agent when he was cleared of the charges. Was excellent for us last season. Indeed, I'd have held onto Drury too who always put in a shift and is now league 1's top assister.

Summer changes to a winning team = bad ITFC start to the season. Every year since Evans arrived. The only exception was 2010. That year we started well and proceeded to dump the good early performers. Evans and his itchy wallet hand will get us nowhere. At ITFC we grow good teams gradually. After all this time, he still doesn't get it.

Good luck to the big fella, as for Garvan no thanks, complete lack of pace, Hyham gets stuck in and has far more energy than Garvan and I think he will start to score some goals for us very soon.

Still think we should have gone for N'Daw but good luck to him!

What has happened to Garvan must be the fear of every championship player - get promoted then get lost! Pathetic

Cornard blue i agree with your post but unfortunately cant see hyam gettimg amongst the goals, he not that type of player and has only scored once in a town shirt, which backs up that point

Despite all the money spent on the midfield over the last six or seven years Garvan is still the most creative central midfielder that we've had (apart from Gio on loan).

Yes he has no pace but at least he can create chances espeially in the Championship.

Dont like the principle of Garvan returning here.. 'Promised much and delivered part-time.' Like quite a few do these days..

Palace went badly downhill when Garvan got injured last season, he was central to their good spells.

Out of all the bad things Keane did, that was one of the worst.

JimmyJazz .. Palace were top around Xmas when Garvan got injured and were dropping like a stone before he returned and their fortunes changed to gain promotion ,and a number of palace fans thought he was the reason . 10 goals in 60 games is better than our forwards strike rate and he was near top of the whole league in assists last season .We are crying out for his passing in midfield and his set pieces ,agree with Garv right up there with the Rhodes release for me as recent Town cock ups ,think JET will be another

Surco you did always used to have a soft spot for garvan before didnt you??? And i see that hasnt changed. We got rid of him because he was too lighweight and didnt work hard enough, yea sure he could pass a ball but did he score that many goals for town?? Plus looks like his attitude stinks as well. He wasnt the reason palace went up it was a certain kevin phillips!!! Plus glenn murray helped out a bit too!!!!

We don't need another defensive minded player ... so good news that N'Daw has signed elsewhere.

Re Garvan - sadly his work rate was lacking for us and was virtually always non existent away from home, which made him only really worthwhile for only half a season. Having said that he has done well for Palace, and I continue to wish him well.

I'm not surprised Garvan is cross. Sign a 2 year contract then get left out of the squad. People complain about player power, but Holloway has gone down in my estimation. Yes Garvan had his faults, but you should treat people as you expect to be treated.

Jimmy 86 .. I did like Garvan as I like creative passing midfielders or players with flair and would welcome him back into this squad with open arms , I don't want the whole town side filled with players who work hard and have great attitudes and are a great bunch of lads but don't entertain and wont try anything .Town are now a boring side with a manager who likes thumping the ball from the back and whos first option on any game is not to get beat home or away .
And I never said Garvan was solely responsible ,but Murray played all through their poor patch unlike Garvan and was injured when they turned their season back around ,Phillips played 14 games last season .

I cant believe anybody is even suggesting that garvan would not be a good signing.
he was a regular for a team who won promotion last season and is a great passer and creative midfielder.so he does not run around like mad chasing lost causes we have other people who could do that and his positioning and football brain makes up for his lack of pace.
lee martin was quick and had an unbelievable workrate but all people on here did was moan about him- some people just moan about anything and unfortunately we have a few too many of them on the terraces at Portman road
