Taylor Rejoins Posh On Loan
Thursday, 26th Sep 2013 13:35

Striker Paul Taylor has rejoined his former club Peterborough United on loan until November 2nd. The 25-year-old is in need of games as he continues his comeback after 11 months out with a serious foot injury.

Manager Mick McCarthy told the club site: “Tayls was out for a long time with his injury and needs to be playing games week in, week out.

"At the moment, he's not been able to do that here. Going out on loan gives him that opportunity to get that match sharpness that he needs.

"Over the short term the loan will benefit Tayls, but over the long term it will benefit Tayls and us."

Peterborough want Taylor to replace frontman Lee Tomlin, who suffered an ankle injury earlier in the week.

Manager Darren Ferguson told the Posh official site that chairman Darragh MacAnthony instigated the move: "I had a conversation with the chairman on Wednesday afternoon. We were aware that Lee had his scan in the evening and that we were getting the results on Thursday morning.

"He suggested Paul Taylor and, I have to be honest, I didn't think of him because I didn't think we could do a deal. However, Ipswich have allowed him to come out and get games, so I thank Mick McCarthy for making the deal happen.

"I was quite happy to go with what I had, but when it became clear we could get him, I couldn't turn that opportunity down. Paul is a very good player and that is why he got the move he did.

"When you get player on loan, it sometimes takes quite a long time to settle and get to know everyone, but Paul knows the place and the lads. He knows how we want to play, which is the important thing.

"He can play two or three different positions and I think it is a very good signing for us, there is no question about that. I am glad that I had the conversation with the chairman!"

MacAnthony added on Twitter: "Some minor bad news on injury front but some great news that we have signed Tayls back for a few weeks to help us. #goals&flair.

"Big Mick & M Evans incredibly helpful as well making this loan happen. Cheers Ipswich!"

Town can recall the striker from the League One club after the first 28 days of his spell.

Taylor joined the Blues from Posh for a fee of £1.5 million rising to £2.5 million in August 2012 but the Liverpudlian suffered a serious foot injury in only his third game for his new club.

This season he has made three Championship appearances from the bench as well as starting the Capital One Cup match at Stevenage.

During Taylor's absence McCarthy could view veteran frontman Alan Lee or youngster Jack Marriott - who we understand has travelled with the first team squad in recent weeks - as his fourth striker behind David McGoldrick, Daryl Murphy and Frank Nouble.

Alternatively, the Blues boss could look at bringing in his own short-term signing while Taylor is at London Road. The recently linked Sylvan Ebanks-Blake would appear an unlikely candidate for that role given that he will be a long way from full fitness having not played a game since April when he suffered a broken leg and ankle ligament damage.

If Mick is not convinced on Taylor then there is an incentive not to play him, i.e another£1 million pound which must be in the operating budget somewhere. If Taylor can be moved on then Mick can make a justifyable case to use the £ 1 million elsewhere.?

I'm all for this! A very good bit of business for ITFC.

This will tell us whether :

1. He is fit enough to play for Town.

2. Whether his heart is at Town or not. And whether he wants to come back and play for use.

If the answer to any of the above is no, then we know where we stand

I am starting to get slightly concerned now. If Taylor is not fit enough to play, and IMO he would score us goals, then SEB would not be fit to play so where do the goals come from. Our midfield cannot score and I could score more goals than Murphy and Nouble. It will be interesting to see if Marriott plays in the U21 match today, if so I cannot see him being involved tomorrow.

Taylor will leave (at a financial loss for Town), and Mick will bring in someone else.

Noel, there's a rectangular button on the left hand side of your keyboard, just below halfway up. Press that and the UPPER CASE ANGRY LETTERS will turn into nice, small, "inside voice" letters that are easier for everyone CLEARLY not as intellectual as you to read.

WTF? MM surely has another striker lined up..

If this is genuinely to get Taylor proper match fit, it is a good move, if its with a view to giving him back for peanuts we will become a laughing stock. Don't trust that Darragh MacAnthony, he can probably sniff a steal coming on...

WHAT????? He should be starting...

Another questionable decision by McCarthy. He wants to stifle any creativity and flair we have...

Much as Alan Lee is a town legend, he is now old and slow. But he's big and can head the ball. More suitable to Micks old school uncreative out of date tactics

I'm bitterly disappointed when i saw this headline, i dont understand why tayls has been loaned out. this is the first time that my confidence in MM has been shaken we're linked with a player who hasnt played any football for 5 months. i dont understand MM's logic here seriously!!!!!!
We're basically replacing with a recovered talented player whos had a pre-season and played competitive games with a player who would need to play a few games before he is fit enough!!
Tayls is clearly fit enough to play, if he was injured then why has another club signed him on loan to play???!?, i seriously dont understand this.

It looks like MM wants to offload a talented player who will score goals at this level. im sooo disappointed :(

i bet tayls will play and score this weekend just to rub salt into the wound, im guessing this decision will deter a few more hundred itfc fans this weekend as well :(

Keaneish, fitness does not come into it-if you have ever played at any level you should know this. You are either fit or not. Match fitness is a different thing and if as you say playing at a lower level is so different how do players like Jordan Rhodes suddenly become prolific. Look at JET he is scoring for fun & his goals are class. He would score at any level now he has been given the role he needs. So now we have the option of Lee, more long balls pumped up to the big bruiser target man. The way MM plays is so out dated & naïve, football has moved on and this style of play if you have an intelligent defence is easy to play. Next thing we'll be after Heskey. I am lucky to have watched ITFC under Burley, Robson and even Sir Alf and this is the absolute pits. MM should be history.
