Taylor Rejoins Posh On Loan
Thursday, 26th Sep 2013 13:35

Striker Paul Taylor has rejoined his former club Peterborough United on loan until November 2nd. The 25-year-old is in need of games as he continues his comeback after 11 months out with a serious foot injury.

Manager Mick McCarthy told the club site: “Tayls was out for a long time with his injury and needs to be playing games week in, week out.

"At the moment, he's not been able to do that here. Going out on loan gives him that opportunity to get that match sharpness that he needs.

"Over the short term the loan will benefit Tayls, but over the long term it will benefit Tayls and us."

Peterborough want Taylor to replace frontman Lee Tomlin, who suffered an ankle injury earlier in the week.

Manager Darren Ferguson told the Posh official site that chairman Darragh MacAnthony instigated the move: "I had a conversation with the chairman on Wednesday afternoon. We were aware that Lee had his scan in the evening and that we were getting the results on Thursday morning.

"He suggested Paul Taylor and, I have to be honest, I didn't think of him because I didn't think we could do a deal. However, Ipswich have allowed him to come out and get games, so I thank Mick McCarthy for making the deal happen.

"I was quite happy to go with what I had, but when it became clear we could get him, I couldn't turn that opportunity down. Paul is a very good player and that is why he got the move he did.

"When you get player on loan, it sometimes takes quite a long time to settle and get to know everyone, but Paul knows the place and the lads. He knows how we want to play, which is the important thing.

"He can play two or three different positions and I think it is a very good signing for us, there is no question about that. I am glad that I had the conversation with the chairman!"

MacAnthony added on Twitter: "Some minor bad news on injury front but some great news that we have signed Tayls back for a few weeks to help us. #goals&flair.

"Big Mick & M Evans incredibly helpful as well making this loan happen. Cheers Ipswich!"

Town can recall the striker from the League One club after the first 28 days of his spell.

Taylor joined the Blues from Posh for a fee of £1.5 million rising to £2.5 million in August 2012 but the Liverpudlian suffered a serious foot injury in only his third game for his new club.

This season he has made three Championship appearances from the bench as well as starting the Capital One Cup match at Stevenage.

During Taylor's absence McCarthy could view veteran frontman Alan Lee or youngster Jack Marriott - who we understand has travelled with the first team squad in recent weeks - as his fourth striker behind David McGoldrick, Daryl Murphy and Frank Nouble.

Alternatively, the Blues boss could look at bringing in his own short-term signing while Taylor is at London Road. The recently linked Sylvan Ebanks-Blake would appear an unlikely candidate for that role given that he will be a long way from full fitness having not played a game since April when he suffered a broken leg and ankle ligament damage.

BillBlue - the "unusual mixture of Chairman and Manager who both understand modern day football." you are referring to got Peterborough relegated last year from a far stronger position than MM took over at Town. I trust MM, he's doing a solid job, PUFC are playing in a lower league as a direct result of the "unusual mixture of Chairman and Manager who both understand modern day football." which may be one of the reasons he can provide goals and flair!

Those saying ebanks blake is on his way , please ask yourself a question , something along the lines of why would we loan out talor to get fit and bring in another striker who is in a worse state of fitness. ?

I'm really confused we lack goals an pace we get rid of Taylor who is now getting fitter and fitter we must have someone coming in.Hate to say it but I bet we won't see Taylor again in a town shirt if mick stays as manager

FatBoy. I think you are confused, Remember where Peterborough were not many years ago and compare that to us.

I personally do think we will see him back in a town shirt, if McCarthy didn't want him surely they would have loaned him til january with the view of a perm,

It was only the other day it got advertised, when McCarthy stated he hasn't got a big enough squad to loan him out, this means two things IMO! Getting him
In the window as he's got someone else coming in on loan or free, Pboro just lost Tomlin
To injury and this is why the deal
Is good for all parties,

I think come November well have a striker coming back with 5-8 goals to his name and raring to go

Craigyboy10- finally someone with some sence! All this slagging off is a discrase to the club and you will be proved wrong! Support the bloody club or you'll be wandering why he won't have any confidance next! Perfect movefor all parties! Will be a regular in November!

Agree Bluehearts-this stinks. If he is fit enough to play at div 1 level he is fit enough for the Championship. Fitness is the same if you are a professional. He does not fit with MM that is obvious and I sense he will be on his way. Christ even Lee is now being mentioned as a starter, I was going to the Brighton match but seriously having 2nd thoughts.

BillBlue - you were talking about current management/chairman arrangements no? What has a few years ago got to do with that? Peterborough sacked then re-hired Fregusson then got relegated. Perhaps the days of Barry Fry are the golden age you are thinking of?

Sorry hegansheroes but fitness is not the same between every division for many different reasons like...

- style of football between the divisions
- coaching techniques between richer and poorer clubs
- nutritional expertise
- dietary requirements

I'd argue there's a notable difference between div 1 and championship sides and pro zone probably proves that.

We know very little about Paul Taylor - so I still find it odd that several posters think he is brilliant - our best player etc. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Taylor needs match fitness and this gives him that opportunity. Probably a good move for everyone.

Does anyone know exactly what Taylor did do to his foot? I broke my talus a couple of years ago, and if that's what he did, I can see why it's taking so long.

Here's a novel idea. How about we trust our management team who work with Taylor every day and can probably judge what's right for him and the club better than any of us on here.

MM i dont get this one,its very clear we have a very small squad and we are loaning out our players to help posh. Why did we not get a player in before we give one out so far typical bad buisness by town again.

So how will he get a lot more time on the pitch for Peterboro than for us? obviously players don't run around as much in League one. A bit disappointing.

I thought £1.5 mill was enough we paid for him, and now we find there is another £1mill due to be paid ???? Thanks a lot Jewellio, !! no wonder Marcus Evans has closed and tucked his cheque book away, I cannot blame him in that respect, by the way he was conned by the 2 previous managers !!!!! Millions they spent with NO success whatsoever !!!!!!!!!!! very disappointing
Perhaps with Taylor going back on loan to Peterborough they will waiver the other £1mill we are suppose to owe on him ????????

There is something about this that just does not add up. I would like to see him play 90 minutes for Town.

shame really , watch him play great for 3 games get injured and sent back we then pay his large wages etc etc

TimmyH added 20:51 - Sep 26
What I want to know is why can't he get more minutes on the pitch now? why go to Posh and get more time on the pitch than with us, we've hardly got a dynamo of attacking players at the club at present other than MacG.
Looking at Keanish post above - I think your looking for excuses, didn't a few people who went to the Wigan game say he looked reasonably sharp whilst he was on the pitch? and he needs 3 months at a loan club in a division lower?. The only reason I can believe Mick put him their was possibly to renew his confidence in a division that clearly should be beneath him.

I see Taylor starting in 4-2-3-1 formation. Any thoughts on the below:
Gerken
Hewitt chambers smith Cresswell
Hyam skuse
Taylor Wordsworth Murphy
McGoldrick

Young attacking full backs. Two solid ball winners to protect the back four. Should get bodies in the box.

He has gone on loan for six weeks! During that time he will miss six games max. Given that he is some way away from a starting berth at the moment, whatever his acolytes might believe, this cannot be a wrong move. Time will tell if he will ever make it long term as an ITFC player. But critics of MM should understand one thing above all; it is the Manager's prerogative to choose the composition of the matchday squad, the starting eleven and the use of substitutes. As committed individuals we may not always agree with every management decision but we do not have management by committee and therefore we need to trust the management team to reach the right conclusions.

Of course people have the right to comment on these things, but let's keep some perspective.

Dont worry guys we are gonna get Carlton Cole to go alongside Nouble !!!

Keaneish added 22:09 - Sep 26
...reasonably sharp for 30 minutes maybe TimmyH but football is 3 times that long!

He's going to get fitter a lot quicker playing five games straight at Posh than he is getting the odd twenty or thirty minutes from the bench for us. Now, if he doesn't start all 5 games between now and when his loan spell is up then questions should be asked about MM's decision to loan him out because that surely has to be the agreement!?
