Taylor Rejoins Posh On Loan
Thursday, 26th Sep 2013 13:35

Striker Paul Taylor has rejoined his former club Peterborough United on loan until November 2nd. The 25-year-old is in need of games as he continues his comeback after 11 months out with a serious foot injury.

Manager Mick McCarthy told the club site: “Tayls was out for a long time with his injury and needs to be playing games week in, week out.

"At the moment, he's not been able to do that here. Going out on loan gives him that opportunity to get that match sharpness that he needs.

"Over the short term the loan will benefit Tayls, but over the long term it will benefit Tayls and us."

Peterborough want Taylor to replace frontman Lee Tomlin, who suffered an ankle injury earlier in the week.

Manager Darren Ferguson told the Posh official site that chairman Darragh MacAnthony instigated the move: "I had a conversation with the chairman on Wednesday afternoon. We were aware that Lee had his scan in the evening and that we were getting the results on Thursday morning.

"He suggested Paul Taylor and, I have to be honest, I didn't think of him because I didn't think we could do a deal. However, Ipswich have allowed him to come out and get games, so I thank Mick McCarthy for making the deal happen.

"I was quite happy to go with what I had, but when it became clear we could get him, I couldn't turn that opportunity down. Paul is a very good player and that is why he got the move he did.

"When you get player on loan, it sometimes takes quite a long time to settle and get to know everyone, but Paul knows the place and the lads. He knows how we want to play, which is the important thing.

"He can play two or three different positions and I think it is a very good signing for us, there is no question about that. I am glad that I had the conversation with the chairman!"

MacAnthony added on Twitter: "Some minor bad news on injury front but some great news that we have signed Tayls back for a few weeks to help us. #goals&flair.

"Big Mick & M Evans incredibly helpful as well making this loan happen. Cheers Ipswich!"

Town can recall the striker from the League One club after the first 28 days of his spell.

Taylor joined the Blues from Posh for a fee of £1.5 million rising to £2.5 million in August 2012 but the Liverpudlian suffered a serious foot injury in only his third game for his new club.

This season he has made three Championship appearances from the bench as well as starting the Capital One Cup match at Stevenage.

During Taylor's absence McCarthy could view veteran frontman Alan Lee or youngster Jack Marriott - who we understand has travelled with the first team squad in recent weeks - as his fourth striker behind David McGoldrick, Daryl Murphy and Frank Nouble.

Alternatively, the Blues boss could look at bringing in his own short-term signing while Taylor is at London Road. The recently linked Sylvan Ebanks-Blake would appear an unlikely candidate for that role given that he will be a long way from full fitness having not played a game since April when he suffered a broken leg and ankle ligament damage.

Not that bothered..£2.5m wasted by Jewell imho.

Keep hearing people say Taylor is good but it's just not happening..what we lack is that special someone who can start/come off the bench & totally change the match for us & get the supporters on the edge of their seats (ala Reuser,Petta,Gio)..Anderson,Edwards,Tabb,Nouble have to start upping their games - big time.

Anyone who has ever played football at a semi pro or above level will know there is an enormous difference between playing 90 minutes and coming off the bench for 20 or 30.

Anybody who has not played at this level but has some knowledge of the game, or an open mind, could understand this without ever having experienced it.

Anyone who has never played at this level and no real knowledge of the game, and a closed mind, will not understand this.

Great move. Assuming no injuries, back in November fully match fit ready to start or spring off the bench to win his place and break back into the 1st 11.

Tend to agree with those on here that want to keep him rather than loan him out—  best way to restore match fitness would be 10-15 mins each game for the next few games. Always had the feeling MM doesn't really take to him and feels he is not a team player. P'bro fans seem to feel he is a 'selfish' if talented striker - but that could be just what we need.

The bottom line is we miss a hatful of chances every game cos we don't have clinical finishers — and if that's the problem then Nouble as an impact sub is not yet the answer. Rather see Nouble on loan and Taylor in the side. Ebanks -Blake not up to full fitness either, as I understand.

McCarthy knows he has an average team but he has got average teams promoted before by creating a solid unit that fights and kicks its way out of the Championship. The likes of Paul Taylor, JET etc are not in this mold and create more problems off the pitch than they contribute on it at the end of the day. The bloke is lucky not to be in prison for god sake!

Mick has done an amazing job here and has steadied what was pretty much a sunken ship in less than 12 months. He knows what he he doing. In MM we trust.

I think this is a good move taylors probably going to play 60mins of football for us over the next month and 4 to 5 games for posh when he comes back will be good to start

The bottom line here is he needs games every week and needs to regain his confidence after such a serious injury, I hope MM uses this time to be positive and move Marriott onto the bench. Given an opportunity he could just be the answer to our prayers, Alan Lee is a stop gap but that's not looking to the future.

Good luck Paul hope you'll be back fit and banging them in by November ready of the big push!!

Big no to ESB as he' can't be anywhere near match fit, bring him in on a pay to play deal for the season though and I would go with that!

Nouble very poor , Murphy poor ,Anderson poor ,Edwards poor - can see exactly why he hasn't been able to get a run in the team to get his fitness levels up MM with all those players bang on form keeping him out ?
Clearly a personal thing and I have stated before I would rather see players with flair who can do something on the pitch to win you a game than a team of hard working players who played well and hard but didn't get the result their work deserved cause their a good bunch of lads .The only way this can be good for the club is if we have a loan coming in and needed Taylors wages to cover it

Surco - we can't start championship games with only 10 fit players!! Taylor's not playing as he's not fit enough for championship level and the best way to get fit is a run of games. How is that personal?

We cant go on dominating shots/possession the way we doing and not winning games. We need a striker/midfielder who can stick the ball in the back of the net NOW. Therefore unless MM has ideas to bring in such a player, then it seems a waste to let Taylor go on loan, just when he looked like he was going in the right direction. One thing is for certain Murphy and Nouble are not going to be the solution to our problem!

I don't understand why people find this a bad move. Taylor needs game time to be match fit for Championship level. If he goes out on loan and plays 5 games (450 mins) it will speed up that process compared to 5 x 30min stints at best if he stays. He would have to come off the bench 15 times for half an hour to get the same game time. That means he may be match fit in January, where as if the loan goes well he comes back start of November ready to play. 2 whole month of football earlier. As Mick says that is better for the player and ITFC in the long run.

Not sure about this one tbh. Why cant Taylor get his match fitness playing for Town. Is EB fitter than Taylor then? I seriously doubt it .

What is Happening? another creative player shipped out! If he brought him on more from the bench he might be fitter, or even started and gave him 60 mins, I would play him wide as he can take on players, probably done more in 20 minutes at Wigan than Tabbs done all season. Hope this doesn't end up in the same way Emmanuel Thomas went, well be very fed up.

Keanish if he is that unfit why is he on the bench ? What is the difference between starting the game and finishing the game ?Have we been playing with 10 players when he has come on ?
Play him until he is tired and then take him off that is how you get players fit not by loaning them out to a lower league so that he will have to get back upto championship speed by the time he returns if in fact he will return and we don't off load him back to the Posh

Sorry all but my very, very, honest opinion is that Paul Taylor is just too bright to match the desire of the MM/TC combination. Watch what happens at Peterborough where I think you will all agree we find an unusual mixture of Chairman and Manager who both understand modern day football. Can you remember how pleased you all were when PT joined us so what has changed? Only the Manager and his assistant have changed and it has been patently obvious since we were told he had recovered from his injury that he needed to regain match fitness but how many people have wondered, on this board, why he hasn't been given the opportunity? See what the Peterborough Chairman has to say: "Some minor bad news on injury front but some great news that we have signed Tayls back for a few weeks to help us. #goals&flair."
"Big Mick & M Evans incredibly helpful as well making this loan happen. Cheers Ipswich!" What a joke - "Goals&flair" says it all - just what we need!

Reading ,QPR, Birmingham, Wigan , Doncaster ,Bolton all strengthened their attacking options this week ,we weakened ours ?

Surco - you're talking nonsense. You can start Taylor and take him off after 30 minutes, that would be idiotic. Playing him for the last 30 of every game is going to take him longer to get for than loaning him to play 5 games give or take.

And of course we haven't been playing with 11 when he's come on, he's only come on for a period of time he's been deemed fit enough for without disrupting the balance of a game.

Not sure why you all persist in looking for a conspiracy theory or something to who he at. It's boooooring!!

Notwithstanding the fact that he has been an embarrassment off the pitch and clearly isn't fit enough at the moment we now have only one striker who is good enough at Championship level.
Whilst we play with 4 midfielders who will struggle to get 10 goals between them all season that is an issue!

Erm, why are we potentially signing Ebanks Blake then? Similar situation isn't it, a player recovering from a bad injury since April (admittedly, much shorter time frame). At least Taylor had some pre-season.

Good move in principal which I assume to be keeps him local and gets him match fit but Peterborough have scored 19 in 8 games so far and are thinking about pushing for the title, I hope he gets enough of a chance!

reading between the lines I get the impression MM feels he's not come back from what was a serious injury in the way he would expect??? After all it was a foot injury not a broken leg!!!

Heads gone! we paid £2.5 million for him in total with the add ons and he only played about 5 games for us, we then go and give him back to Peterborough, i think he will end up being another player we let go for nothing, how many millions have we wasted in the last 5 years?? Complete heads gone for me
