Town Made Barnett Approach
Thursday, 9th Jan 2014 13:10

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has revealed that Town made an enquiry regarding former loanee Tyrone Barnett prior to his switch to Bristol City yesterday.

McCarthy made the 28-year-old one of his first Town signings when he joined on loan in November 2012 but the former Crawley frontman’s spell was curtailed by a posterior cruciate ligament injury a month later after only two starts and one sub appearance.

“Mick McCarthy spoke to us about him, he spoke to Mick, but Mick only wanted to take him on loan,” Fry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

“But Bristol City came in, they only wanted to take him on loan, but he’s been there for a week talking about things and he’s gone there on loan until June 30th with a view to a permanent deal on July 1st. I think it suits all parties.”

Barnett may have been viewed as potential cover for Daryl Murphy, who has been suffering with a thigh strain and was due to undergo a scan earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Hull City winger Cameron Stewart, who had been linked with a loan to the Blues amongst a host of other Championship clubs, has joined Leeds United having recently completed a spell at Charlton.

The 22-year-old has moved to Elland Road on an initial 93-day loan and will sign permanently on a three-year deal in the summer.

Can only but assume Murphy's injury is more of a concern than first feared - along with SEB not being fully fit?

A creative midfield player must surely remain a priority?

........ same old lame excuses for everything - from the same people. Watch the 'bite' back, or the minus's - they know who they are. Everytime without fail - excuse, excuse, excuse, condone, condone, condone - maybe it's them that should be 'getting a life'. And some ambition at the same time.

Think Noel the Dub may have point about problems behind the scenes.I still havn't forgotten about club asking some creditors for more time to pay recently.
When Mr Sheepshanks gave us shareholders his spiel about ME's takeover I recall him saying that this would put us on a sounder footing financially and remove the need to sell best players to survive;which probably has been the case until now;but I am concerned that we same unable to compete with the more modest teams in our division now.
Certainly Mick has done similarly to BFJ in building a team with very limited resources.I am sure if our Manager misses out in transfer targets in the future the blame will not rest with him;as surely if Marcus Evans had the money he would back Mick in the transfer market regardless of FFP which I believe this season allows for several million overspend without sanctions.
This is the best chance of ITFC reaching the Premiership since the aforementioned Big Joe's brilliant tenure under very difficult circumstances some 7 or 8 years ago.

Blueboy32 - who's making excuses? All we know is we made an approach for this player. Do you have information that we took it further?
So if you don't like my criticism of bluey123 can I take it that you agree with him?

blueboy - thanks for your concern but i have plenty of ambition thanks. However you may want to visit your doctor as i think he has over prescribed the arrogance pills. Try asking for some humility ones , you're a bit short in that department.

Taylor is not a striker don't think we'll see much of seb this season so that leaves mcgoldrick nouble murphy think this is how mick sees it.sneaky little bid for le fondre on loan would be nice with an attacking midfielder aswell.but can't see us getting anyone in mm seems happy with the team.

MM is obviously in the market for players but what backing will he get from Evans?

Time will tell I guess!

Dozzells Bobblehat - .... just to put you in the picture once and for all, and CORRECT some of your aspersions - I have from the very appointment of MM been supportive of him, and I have to say that I am not surprised at his style of play and ability to grind out results - hence we escaped relegation which was very much a possibility after the two previous so called Managers. Objective achieved, for which I give him much credit. I also see him as being a 'real' Manager, certainly compared to the previous two. HOWEVER, I do not commit (unlike some} to agree with everything he says, and does, and as a paying Season Ticket holder for around 40 yrs I believe I have that right.
At the same time I make no apologies for having witnessed first hand the glory days of this Club, and in my lifetime I would dearly like to see them return. I accept the game has changed, the Club has changed totally from what we once were - but I don't accept that we cannot be successful again - because we can - otherwise why are any of us bothering with anything associated with the Club ?

What I am not sure of on recent evidence and style of play, is if MM is capable of moving the Club / Team forward from our position now - I hope he is, I genuinely do, but I have reservations on just that.
More often than not capable of success in a relegation battle - but can he move us forward without flair in the team, etc; which he seems to reluctant to have as an option / addition to reasonably effective defence.

Time will indeed tell - and there is no one more committed to this Club than I - that includes YOU.

Blueboy - a very sensible post with which I cannot really disagree. Why can you not express yourself like this in all your posts ? We are obviously the same age (ish) and have shared the same ups and downs. I don't agree with everything MM says or does but I also don't take every opportunity to slate him and the club as I'm pretty sure he knows more than you and I put together. I also have the same reservations but all I would day on that front is that he has done it twice before with other clubs so let's give him the benefit of the doubt shall we.

Bb1981... I'm the same think mm has been brilliant but I have my doubts about his ability to change things about and take us to the next level you can read his tactics like a book Saturday we will set out to defend a nil nil and he'll be happy with that this is not a moan at mm but he has all the tools to be an attacking team but it's like he's scared of dominating games

I agree with Blueboy1981 on much of his post. I believe we have a proper football manager now. However, MM can be quite negative. He would rather defend a 1-0 lead at home than go for it and kill teams off. This approach has cost us points at home this season. Leeds, Leicester, Charlton, Watford spring to mind.

Let's hope ME backs him in this window, although we should be grateful that his company funding towns £10m yearly loss... Albeit a loan to ITFC

sides that play us have worked out that if they press us at home we have no answers as the gap between defence and attacking players is very tight ie all in our half closing down. Then we win possession and have no width or pace in which to exploit. Murphy will be a huge miss as he was an outlet for flick ons and hold up play. QPR will have an easy one nil win i fear and that will be the start of our slide down the table to a 17th placed finish
