Marriott Dropped to Bench After Arriving Late
Thursday, 20th Feb 2014 10:03

Woking boss Garry Hill has revealed on-loan Blues striker Jack Marriott was dropped to the bench for Tuesday’s 5-1 thrashing at Dartford having been one of five players to arrive late for the match.

Hill said the 19-year-old, who has scored 10 goals in 12 starts and one sub appearance for the Cards, arrived at Princes Park latest of all, more than an hour after his 6pm deadline.

Woking briefly went ahead early on but were always up against it once they were reduced to 10 men when Joey Jones was sent off in the 34th minute, but Hill felt his players’ poor pre-match preparation had also contributed. Marriott was introduced as a sub in the 55th minute.

"I don't think the sending off helped but it started wrong from the off tonight,” he told Get Surrey.

"I'm not the sort of person as a rule who puts my dirty washing out on the line but when you have a situation where five players are late in respect of the meeting time to go to work, you can't defend it.

"We've not helped ourselves in terms of preparation. I'm aware of situations and things do go on in respect of travelling to games, but we haven't respected the time enough to get here and prepare properly."

I hope he learns from this. Seems otherwise to be level headed. If he does it could prove as valuable as the goals.

Bring him home, give him a couple of appearances before the end of the season, then send him out again next season

Better he does it now, as I don't think Mick would have been so forgiving to even put him on the bench if he did that here. Hopefully this is a kick up the backside he needed to now knuckle down and be more professional. To be honest, I'd love to just recall him and give him a chance now. Think play-offs are a pipe dream and virtually no chance of relegation so why not?

We don't know the reason why FIVE player arrived late. We're in the area of the M25 here and it does happen unfortunately, even when "reasonable" contingency is built in. It's not like driving over the fields to Portman Road.

You dropped a player who has scored 10 goals in 12 game for you just to prove a point. Silly man!

I would have thought a fine or some other sanction would have done the same job, without significantly weakening the team. Seems like poor management to me.

Can Nouble be dropped for arriving late in the box on too many occasions

I would like to know the reason for his late arrival before making judgement. To be an hour late suggests it might be something beyond Jack's control.

No excuse for being late in my book, fair play to their manager and hopefully Jack will learn from this and make more provisions to leave earlier in future. Footballers get paid an awful lot of money and in Jacks case, not so much at the moment but there's no reason why he can't be amongst the higher earners in the game one day, so I don't see why footballers should get pampered and a cuddle if they turn up late.

Fair is fair and hopefully he'll be starting their next fixture.

Strewth some of you sad people on here would make lousy bosses condemn a person for lateness without knowing the circumstances.

I would accept him being late for us if he scored 10 goals in 12 starts !
If one of my employees is late I don't weaken the business by letting them not work .
The boss really showed Jack by getting his side stuffed 5-1, top management

3 mile queue and long delays at Dartford crossing, two hour journey became three.

... let's hope this was an exeption to the rule - anyone who travels in todays world knows how unreliable travelling can be in terms of time - road, rail, or whatever - let's hope this was the case and could not be avoided.

Otherwise - NOT GOOD ENOUGH JACK.

Good learning point. Handled well by Woking.
