Edwards Keen to Join Millwall Permanently
Thursday, 8th May 2014 12:07

Departing Town skipper Carlos Edwards says he’d love to join loan side Millwall on a permanent basis. The 35-year-old's five-year spell with the Blues will come to an end this summer.

"I've been waiting for my phone to ring," Edwards told the Southwark News. "The manager [Ian Holloway] did say that he will get in contact with me - he has to speak to the chairman and the board before making a final decision.

"If it was up to him, he may have signed me straight after the game but there are ways and means of doing business professionally.

"I think he's a man of his word - so if he says he's going to give me or my agent a call, then we will take it from there.

“I'm patiently waiting and I hope I do get a call. Once that happens it should be fairly straightforward. Millwall is a great club, with great fans and a great manager, so even if we had gone down that might have persuaded me to stay.

"But we're still in the Championship and I'd love to be a permanent member of the squad. I think the lads here are a special bunch and we can achieve a lot together."

Wigan are understood to be one of a number of other Championship sides interested in recruiting the full-back or winger, but Millwall is the Trinidad and Tobago international’s preferred destination.

The Lions were unbeaten in his eight games on loan as they escaped relegation with the former Sunderland, Luton and Wrexham man largely playing at right-back and scoring one goal. Millwall are believed to be equally keen to do a deal and talks could open this week.

Edwards made 170 starts and 21 substitute appearances for the Blues, scoring 10 goals, having been signed by Roy Keane from his former club Sunderland for £1.35 million in the summer of 2009.

The public transport options London will offer Carlos Edwards must be a big decision maker for him :p

He's not been perfect, he's had his critics, and I still don't know what position we were supposed to be playing him in. But it has to be said, here's one signing Roy Keane did get right. A great servant to the club who surprisingly now stands out as one of our longest-serving of the last five years.

Have a couple of friends who watch Millwall both of which said Edwards put in decent performances in the games he played and couldn't believe his energy levels . Both also rated Garvans contributions , I thought he had a bad knee ?

An excellent pro who imo has far more footballing ability than many of the current squad and has pace. He would be a good player to keep at the club and a better right back than we currently have. Scapegoat. All the best

........... yet another player who spent much of his time playing out of position when here with us - therefore we really never saw the very best of him.

Good Luck Carlos - hope you spend the rest of your career playing in your rightful position, as we all know you would prefer. And thanks for being a decent Club captain.

Good servant-One of Keanes best signings, no doubt- despite the price tag - he spent a lot more on worse.
