McCarthy and Connor Sign New Deals
Monday, 30th Jun 2014 11:26

Town boss Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor have agreed new three-year deals with the club. The pair’s existing contracts were due to end next summer.

“I’m delighted,” said the Blues manager, whose terms now stretch to June 2017. “I’m looking forward to it and I’m looking forward to the new season, forget the new contract. We’ll be here for another three years, hopefully!

“Progress has been made and I want to continue making progress. I know the players have all come back. They trained on Friday, they had fitness testing and they were all better than last year, so I think they’re looking forward to it and we want another good season.”

He says he’s happy at Town having avoided relegation after taking over with the club bottom of the table during 2012/13 and then leading the Blues to ninth last term.

“It was an easy decision to make, I love it here,” he added. “I’ve enjoyed it, we’ve made progress since coming in in 2012, November 1st. Gradual progress has been made and I’m looking forward to making greater strides this season with me and TC and the rest of the lads.

“There’s a good feel about the place, I enjoy working with Marcus, he leaves me alone to get on with it and manage the club and pick the team, I get no interference from him, so I’m hoping for another good season.”

If we finish higher than 9th, on our budget, then McCarthy and Connor will have done a bloody brilliant job.

This makes me think that he has been given funds probably the money from the sale of Cresswell and that Evans has convinced MM of his support for the team.

Continuity, solidity - MM & TC have steadied a sinking club, had a season of consolidation, now "Ipswich Expects"........

Good work Marcus.

This is brilliant, great to see the management staff and players all signing on.

Its a sign of stability at the club which we have badly lacked for the past 5 or so years.
We would be an excellent option for players in the free/loan market. Most clubs will be offering basic enough wages with add ons & bonuses for performance and promotion. Alot of players will want a club that is stable and provides a good chance of a secure wage for a few seasons.

Cant wait to see Mings, Henshall and Marriot staking a claim for the first team! Hopefully Byron Lawrence can also step up this pre-season and help boost the midfield options!

Great news, I know we don't play the best type of football but as long as we get results, I am not too fussed. COYB!

Often lots of negative comments about ME, but when you read about the mad antics of some clubs' big money owners, there's quite a bit to be grateful for. Well, Mick thinks so, and that's fine with me.

Good news. I do hope that they are able to use their management and coaching skills on a stronger squad with greater depth though.

Fairly pleased about the renewed contracts - as a few others have posted just hope Mick becomes somewhat more attack minded in his tactics but as a stabilizing force for the club has certainly been the right man alongside TC. Not surprised he has signed as apparently 'he gets paid well' and gets pretty much a free run of management of the club with little interference from the board or owner. Fingers crossed for improvement this season.

Thinking about some tactics:

,....................New keeper
.............Smith Chambers Berra
Cresswell ,..................................Hewitt
..................Hyam Wordsworth
Mcoldrick Murphy New striker

Could be 3-4-3 or 5-2-3

The new players only have to be freebies

this will confirm we wont struggle to stay in the division in the next few years but i really hope mcarthy radically changes his style of play because it was awful at times last season. i remeber sitting at the bolton at home match and seeing people play games on there phones while we hit and hoped.
i cant agree with tractordownsouth that it does not matter as long as we get resultsas i think we should look to do better than that if we ever hope to go up and stay there.-i think mcarthy may be forgiven some mediocre results if we play a more expansive attacking game but if we are to play long ball football i expect us to get in the play offs at least as compenstaion for sitting through such dull stuff.

Excellent news, last season was the first time that I felt we have made progress since the ME takeover, long may it continue.

While the jury is still out for me on MM I agree he deserves this for the good job he did last season. But I expect to see a lot better this one.
