Taylor Joins Rotherham On Loan
Thursday, 14th Aug 2014 17:58

Striker Paul Taylor has joined Rotherham United on a half-season loan, subject to the paperwork being ratified. The 26-year-old was made available for transfer by Blues boss Mick McCarthy at the end of last season.

Millers manager Steve Evans told their club site that the switch came about very quickly with other sides after the ex-Peterborough man: “I only heard last night that Paul was in talks with two fellow Championship clubs in relation to joining them on a long term loan.

“I quickly spoke to my chairman and within minutes our chief executive spoke with Marcus Evans at Ipswich Town. Within an hour I was given permission to talk with the player as a financial arrangement had been agreed with both clubs.

“After talking to the player it became very evident to me that he had a preference to join Rotherham United. In turn I asked the player to sleep on his options and I was delighted to receive a call first thing this morning to say the player still wanted to be a Miller.

“I am not going to say what this player can bring to our squad, in simple terms his performances will demonstrate that to our supporters.

“He is a lad who like every other player we have signed in recent times has a point to prove and from my conversation with him he cannot wait to get started.

“I would expect us to add further to our squad within next few days, I will add nothing else.”

Taylor added: “I am delighted to have signed for Rotherham United and I am really looking forward to this exciting challenge.

“After talking with Steve Evans and [assistant manager] Paul Raynor it became clear to me very quickly that this was a club going places and I wanted to be part of what was happening here.

“I’ve been down to New York Stadium this afternoon and I was extremely impressed with what I saw which made the decision to sign even easier.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me to join a good club with fantastic support and I just cannot wait to put on the Rotherham shirt and do my best for the club.”

Taylor was signed from Posh for an initial £1.5 million - potentially rising to £2.5 million - in the summer of 2012 but missed virtually all of his first season at Portman Road after suffering a serious foot injury in his third game for the Blues.

Following his return, he found his opportunities limited under McCarthy's management with the Town boss saying in April that he's "not my type" and that he was not in his plans.

Overall, the Liverpudlian, who spent time back at Peterborough on loan last season, has made just nine starts - the last at Crawley on Tuesday - and 16 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.

Taylor, whose Town contract is up next summer, joins ex-Town keeper Scott Loach and former loanees Paul Green and Frazer Richardson at the New York Stadium.

I dread to think how much money we've wasted in recent years on players who contributed little and left for free.

Wonder what may have been had it not been for the injury, just a relief it's now pretty much all over.

"Financial arrangement" more likely to be Town paying a large part of his wages rather than Rotherham paying a loan fee!

This is surely a bad joke!

We allow Taylor on loan and keep Nouble!

This is a waste of time. We need to cut our losses and try and get some sort of fee now and have his wages off the books for good OR actually give him more of a first team chance. The loan system rarely benefits anyone in the long-term.

To be honest who really cares, clearly a bad egg in the training ground and hasn't really proven his worth, thank god he's gone

Let's be honest, it is absolutely no surprise that Taylor has left on loan. What concerns me, no worries me, is we are yet another permanent player down, have injuries, yet haven't signed any new players. This is despite the reserves not really performing on Tuesday, particularly the likes of Nouble. Whilst recent new signings have yet to impress or are injured. Disappointing.

The pace of the move is prove enough that he isn't wanted by the club. Like him or not Taylor is a different type of player to what we have currently. We're one-nil down, its the 75th minute and you see Nouble taking his tracksuit off - excited?

The people on here who say that he is a bad apple - do you actually know him or heard stories from a mate-of-a-mate?

For all I know Taylor could be a complete idiot - perhaps this is why no club went in for him during the summer - I just don't think MM is entirely blameless for Taylor not producing more for the club.

Hurrah.............would like to know just how much of his wages are off the books and curious as to why this is only a half season loan? Perhaps something to do with the fact that his contract ends August 2015 and the powers that be are hoping he'll put in some performances that mean Rotherham want to keep him and pay a fee for him.....good luck with that.

For me Taylor has more talent than most of the squad but lacks application which is not acceptable. Have to agree with JWM that it seems amazing that we still have big Frank. He is the reverse of Taylor, tries hard but limted ability. Jack Marriot will be the next out on loan .... Good luck Taylor you need to start working as talent means nothing without application,

Shame we didn't make a condition to take their midfielder Ben Pringle in exchange
A magic left footed player who can certainly make things happen.

Glad he's gone. Will not miss him at all. No application, and not as much talent as believed by his fanboys. He can run from Wing to wing, but, like Lee Martin, cannot cross or finish. At least Martin worked hard and tried. Taylor didn't. Glad he is gone

whilst it should not be a complete disaster losing Edwards ,cresswell, and taylor. I do not really think we have replaced them with anyone better

He has never had an extended run in the team to show what he can do. He has a lot of ability but maybe he doesn't chase back enough. MM will always favour an honest worker of unexeptional talent over an exciting player who doesn't aways pull his weight.

I guess, with lack of games he is almost worthless price wise... if he performs well on loan till jan, then he will suddenly have a better price tag 'IF' someone was interested in jan...

Good luck Paul, shame it didn't work out here!

Always thought you were a decent player, all the best for the future #onwardsandupwards

Thank god he is off our wage bill. He just isn't worth all the trouble he creates. Never been outstanding in this league. On his day he is lively but seems a disruptive influence. Hopefully can get one or two quality loans in now.

At least Taylor going means that McGoldrick is more likely to be at Town come the end of the transfer window - which has been at the back of my mind in recent weeks

From the moment he was found guilty of ABH he was on borrowed time.
Not the sort of character Super Mick would have time for.

Good riddance
