Sammon On Target But U21s Hammered
Thursday, 4th Sep 2014 16:43

Conor Sammon netted his first goal in a Town shirt but the Blues’ U21s were beaten 5-1 by West Ham in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Upton Park this afternoon.

The on-loan Derby man tapped home a rebound late on in the first half with Hammers winger Matthias Fanimo netting four times and Diafra Sakho the game's best goal.

Bartosz Bialkowski and Darren Ambrose, who is continuing to train with the Blues, also featured.

Bialkowski saved a second-half penalty from Nathan Mavila, however, Fanimo followed up to score.

Former West Ham midfielder Jack Collison, who has also been training with the Blues and played in Monday's U21 game, was not to have featured and is believed to have moved on without having been offered terms.

U21s: Bialkowski, Emmanuel, Kenlock, Fowler, Clarke, McQueen, Galvin, Ambrose, McDonnell, Bajner, Sammon. Used subs: Guldbrandsen, McLoughlin.

Oh dear, not good for Bialkowski that he conceded five.

A shame about Collison as I thought he may have impressed enough to earn a deal.

Maybe we should ask to borrow Matthias Fanimo - we could do with a winger who can score four goals in one match!

Shame on Collison. Still think he would have been a useful addition, maybe we can look forward to a williams/bishop CM partnership? Henshall Left, Stewart right MCG n Murph up front with a solid back 4 behind?

I imagine these friendlies are for a showcase as much as for fitness, so if Town can offer someone like Fanimo a decent amount of game time, then do it!
Plus he's got a name that is crying out to be spelled incorrectly in these forums...

I read elsewhere that Collision was going to sign next week so the question is, are we 100% certain he's moved on?

Didn't watch the game, but Fanimo certainly impressed. Would like to see him with us.

Anyone know how Ambrose did?

Fanimo and I know he's a bit of trouble but ravel Morrison is a good player and prepared to drop down, he destroyed the championship for qpr, imagine ravel Morrison and Johnny Williams in the championship... Jesus!

That 4th goal by West Ham was a passing masterclass, even against statues.
