Premier Pair Linked With Bishop
Saturday, 3rd Jan 2015 10:10

Arsenal and Manchester United are eyeing Blues midfielder Teddy Bishop, according to one of this morning’s papers.

The Sun reports that there is increasing interest in Bishop, who is said to be valued at £10 million, from Premier League sides with the Gunners claimed to be “ready to beat” the Red Devils for his signature. Both clubs have regularly been represented at Town games this season.

Bishop, 18, has made a big impression since breaking into the first team at the start of the season. In September he signed a contract until 2016 with an option for a further season.

Manager Mick McCarthy said yesterday that he was aware Bishop had joined Tyrone Mings in catching the attention of top flight clubs: “[Teddy] is attracting almost as much interest as Tyrone Mings.”

The Town boss also reiterated that he expects owner Marcus Evans to rebuff all but the most "ridiculous" offers for his players: "There’s nothing I can do if someone wants to bid for players. All I know is that he’ll turn it down."

Meanwhile, former Blue Darren Bent has joined Town’s promotion rivals Derby County on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season.

Can't see a deal for either Bishop or Mings materialising during this transfer window.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United are desperate for tried and tested players good enough for the Premier league, who can instantly come into their teams to help with their push for Champions league places. With a figure of £10M per player, and with Fair Play in effect, it just wouldn't make sense for them to be making bids now.

I wouldn't be surprised if some bids appear in the summer though. Which is why its very important we get (or at least get as close to as possible) promotion this year to keep our talent here.

Isnt going to happen. The club just needs yo sit the youngsters down and explain where they are better off at THIS stage in their career.

Not surprised, must keep hold of our young talent that is our future when we finally make it to the promised land. Also what has happened to the magic of the FA cup premier league and sky money has ruined it bring back the 1970s.

At the end of the day all any player is interested in is money and if that means playing reserve team football at a premier team for a very big pay rise then they will want to go

Most of them cannot even spell loyalty or even know what it means

If they take the big money move to fatten their wallets they will fatten their arse by spending time on the bench and that's if they make the 1st team squad on match days. They would probably only appear in the League & FA Cup. IMO you're best to stay where you are whilst still learning your trade and if you keep progressing like you both are, you will eventually get that big money move.

We are just going to have to get used to this under Mick as more talented young prospects come through. Part of the problem with these stories is that the major clubs have vast followings, and linking a player to them will inflate the number of people reading the story.

Tyrone, in one of Phil's interview pieces, talked about staying at Ipswich as he wanted game time, and it made me think of Aaron Cresswell. By getting over three years game time with us, he was experienced and established enough to instantly become a first team regular at West Ham.

If a young player join a top six team, their development is often subordinated to the needs of the club. I have seen numerous players loaned back to a variety of different Championship clubs for a season or half-season at a time, with this instability not helping their development. Staying at a stable club and developing while playing with the same group of players is infinitely better for an inexperienced player.

Top six clubs can be guilty of factory-farming young players to stop other teams getting them. I would limit the total number of players a club could keep on their books to concentrate their minds and stop them hoarding talented prospects.

In a strange way I'm quite excited about the way are players are being linked with these clubs it just goes to show how far we have come in 2 years if it carries on just think where we could be in another 2 years

Two words Teddy - Nick Powell.

Stay put and enjoy your football under a good manager at a great club with fans that adore you.

agree wholeheartedly with harryfrombath about top clubs having a cap on how many young players they can sign, but it just goes to show what a mad world football has become when an emerging youngster in the championship can have a 10 million price tag on his head before he has barely played a dozen first team games

Well said, HarryfromBath. Youth player factory farming is like the big supermarkets buying up vast property portfolios and never building, just so rivals don't get a look-in.
It's also part of why the England team struggles imho; stifled youth prospects play second fiddle to International Premier teams. At least the Southamptons show it is possible to get a decent run with a lot of homework-grown players.
Plus If a player 'only' earns £15k a week, that's still £3m over a short 8 year career. After tax. Mind-blowing for doing a job you love. As I've said before, players should show some loyalty to the supporters who pay them - at least leave them having given everything. I'd like to think Tyrone and Teddy get that, having been given such fantastic opportunities at Ipswich. Until they move/are sold, let's remember they are very well rewarded for their dedication to the club.

I hope both stay and I really hope they do. But as Mick admits, if a large, ridiculous offer comes in for either one of them, they will be off. At the end of the day it's every young players dream to play for a top PL side and what's to say a similar offer will be on the table again. If given the chance, I suspect both would leave. That's not being disrespectful to us, just it's Arsenal and Manchester United. Like I said, I hope they both stay, but if they do go I would expect ME to re invest the vast majority into the playing staff. Otherwise, pointless.

Derby County have still managed to keep hold of Will Hughes, and he's played just over 100 league games for them. For the sake of Teddy's development as a footballer he should remain at Ipswich for another 2 full seasons and then review his options, whether that is moving on to a bigger club or staying at Ipswich because you never know we may be in the Premier League by then.

The reporting on both Mings and Bishop has been appalling in my opinion, luckily they both seem down to earth and level headed, but for other players it could really throw the cat amongst the pigeons. This nonsense that "Arsenal are ready to pip United for Bishop/Mings" like it's already a done deal! Well are they gonna be in for a shock! But more importantly, I'd like to know who their source is that they're gonna put a bid in, as Wenger has already played down speculation linking him with Mings after the telegraph pretty much told us Mings was off to London. Yes some scouts maybe at the games but it seems like these journalists are making up the club's minds for them before they've actually decided! So how about these reporters get their facts straight before unsettling all the young British talent, this speculation doesn't help anyone.

Teddy and the Bishop family are hardcore Spurs fans so a move to Arsenal would be a surprise

HarryfromBath I absolutely agree with your post and the first name I thought of was Nick Powell as Lightningboy said.

What a talent that seems to have stalled by going to a top team too soon.

Although he could always join us for the promotion party!!

ME got to stay strong, with FFP teh best way ME can back the Blues is to not sell - That would more than make up for no transfer fees paid out in the past 2 years.

If Town do get promoted we will be lookign for PL class players - They are obviously hard to come by, hence the big boys sniffing around our talent.

Typcial Derby getting Bent just in time to play us!! I reckon Mick has a surprise up his sleeve for Town fans in this window, Wood would bea welcome addition in the rumours are true..

Quite right! He's a very talented player.

I'd imagine most premier league clubs are 'keeping an eye' on Bishop.

If we are going to sell, sell in the summer, not in the middle of a promotion campaign.

I think we're safe considering this article has his name as 'Teddy Barnes'.

For the sake of argument if ME was to cash in and accept bids at the extravagant reported prices he could have about £40 Million. I dont really have a point but thats a lot of money!!

Never see the point in a younger player leaving a championship team for a premier league club so early in there career, obviously the intersest in a higher wage is a big influence but for the better of the progress of the player, playing first team competative football is the most important thing, if they carry on the way there going they will play there in the future (hopefully with the town), it's also nice to see Evans wants to keep this team and what we've got together and build each year

linhdi added 14:19 - Jan 3
I was just a bit concerned that Didz, Murphy, Mings and Bishop are now "worth" £40m, which has to be a consideration for ME. But I'm pretty sure he'd still rather give promotion a shot, rather than bail out now.
Fabulous to have so much positive press about Town, isn't it!

No mate, you were right first time - get. Close but no cigar wont do us any good and it wont keep our best players here either. Its so important we go up this season. No pressure!!
