Witham Winger Set for Trial
Thursday, 5th Feb 2015 09:23

Witham Town winger Tom Wraight will join the Blues on trial next week, according to the Ryman Premier side’s assistant manager Brad King.

Wraight, 20, is reported to have attracted the interest of a number of Football League clubs this season, having opted against a summer move to Vanarama Conference Barnet following a trial.

King says Witham won’t stand in Wraight’s way if he impresses with Town and believes he ought to be playing at a much higher level.

“We won’t hold any youngsters back and he deserves it because he’s one of the best talents I’ve worked with,” King told the Essex Chronicle.

“I first saw Tom when he was 16 or 17 playing for Tilbury with my brother and when I went to Witham he was one of the first signings I wanted to make.

"I wanted him because I thought he was just exceptional and he’s just grown into a mature player.

“I think he should be playing in the Football League and there are three or four clubs watching him and enquiring about him so it’s great for him.

“We’ll wish him all the best and hopefully he is successful in his trial because he deserves it. He’s been loyal to us and he’s a credit to himself.”

In addition to Tilbury, Wraight, who has scored seven goals in 32 appearances for Witham this season, has also spent time with Chelmsford City.

More young, hidden, non-League talent potentially being unearthed - all good!

All good we are unearthing potential raw talent, but how many wingers does Mick need to sign and then play absolutely none of them?!

Round pegs, round holes please Mick!

My colleague is a striker for Tilbury who knows him very well. He said this morning that Notts County had been looking at him too. Said he's got a very decent left peg and while not alex henshall quick, he's not slow. Said he could probably do a job for our U21s which lets hope leads to more!

Always good when we look at the younger talent in the lower leagues because they are the hungry players who will hopefully take us forward.

Should end up a decent fullback then...

Note Danny willsons comments re Sheff U's youngster that banged in a couple in the FA cup, another non leagure- To much scouting done by DVD not enough going out and finding decent players. Ian Wright prime example, Lamber, DJ Campbell, Mings, Jamie Vardy. These players out there and Mick knows it

According to my brother in law who plays for Witham.... "he's 6ft with a great left foot, quick and good in the air"
Sounds ideal, lets hope he makes the grade.

We will need a bigger bench because if past experience is anything to go by thats where he will end up----that would make 2 new wingers in a week if he signs.

Best of luck to him. I just hope he's ready to join HoofBall Utd. If he's good in the air he might prove to be a good target man.

Excellent !! - love offering local young talent opportunities - always worth a punt
Most amazing deal I saw in Transfer window was Palace getting the young lad from Barton Rovers -Keshi Anderson - from £200 a week to the Prem
Hope he does a great job and also knocks JW down the pecking order in squad so we can have him !

I agree got some natrual wingers but MM needs to give them some game time. two wingers supplying Murph , Didz and Sears would bring goals goals !!!!!!!!!!!!

good luck to the bloke but we seem to sign several young wingers a season and none of them even threaten to get into the first team so can't get to excited

Wraight. Isn't that how Jim Magilton pronounced Wright? :)

Good luck to the lad!

McCarthy obviously has a thing about signing wingers, which is good because it would be a different route to hoofball and a refreshing change. We've also got a lot of midfielders too, but like all the wingers if they are on the pitch they don't seem to be good enough to take us forward. With what we have and what we are bringing in this season I do worry about where we will finish up in the league this season. Hopefully it is a general progression season on season but after where we were before Christmas it now seems a bit depressing watching us play and reading the press statements who we are being linked to to help us progress.
