Taylor's Contract Terminated
Friday, 6th Mar 2015 15:18

Striker Paul Taylor’s Town contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

Manager Mick McCarthy confirmed: “Paul Taylor’s not our player. He’s not been back with us and he’s not my player.”

The 27-year-old, who has been training with Blackburn for the last month, is understood to still be registered to the Blues and will stay officially a Town player until the emergency loan deadline on March 26th in order to allow the former Peterborough man to join another club on loan.

The Liverpudlian, who was on loan at Rotherham earlier in the season, would be unable to sign for another club on a permanent basis if his registration was released now as that would contravene the FIFA rule preventing players from being with more than two clubs in a season.

However, with the Blues still holding his registration Taylor is able to join another club on loan.

Earlier in the week Rovers boss Gary Bowyer said he is yet to make a decision on whether to loan the striker: “He’s training with us, it’s an opportunity for us just to have a quick look for him and we’ll take it from there,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“The lad has got some ability, there’s no doubt about that. You only need to look at his CV to see that he has had a decent career, people have seen the talent he has, but we’re just monitoring the situation.”

Taylor, who didn’t return to Town after ending his loan spell with the Millers in January, was understood to be the club’s highest-earning player on around £10,000 a week and was out of contract at the end of the season.

The Liverpudlian joined the Blues from Posh in the summer of 2012 for an initial fee of £1.5 million, which could ultimately have risen to £2.5 million.

He made only nine starts and 16 sub appearances for Town, scoring one goal, and missed almost a year of football due to a toe injury.

Shame, could have provided the attacking flair and pace that's been so badly missed recently.

I Think the Sun and the sand must have got in your eyes QB !!! One of the worst bits of business we have done in recent years £10k a week - we could have a decent player in on that but glad he is ff the wage bill !

Brother in law is a posh fan so I saw Taylor play a few times for them and was not too disappointed when he came to Frotress Portman to sign terms. I've been proved wrong though as the lad must just have a terrible attitude - which will probably upset any team where he is not the big fish (no disrespect Posh).
But, the thing that grates is that he was joined on his trip along the A14 with his then teammate Boyd. He was always the better player. We agreed to give Posh £1.5m and, apparently, £10k a week for Taylor, but we sent Boydy back up the A14.
Just wish MM had that kind of cash to spend - sadly Evans had his fingers burned too many times before Mick came to Suffolk.
Good luck to the lad - he's got to make a living in a short career - just glad it's not at FPR anymore.

Why has it taken this long??
10k a week wasted on nothing.
Get shot and let's get someone to add goals from midfield.

@Calmore Why so long? The increasingly forlorn hope that someone else would take him off our hands for half of what we've paid him to go away. That even a man with the integrity of Steve Evans wasn't impressed says it all.

We should have cancelled it straight away and not give him any opportunity to play for anyone this season. The way he has treated this club he deserves nothing else.

It wouldn't surprise me if Mick tries to pick him now based on some of his recent bonehead team selections.

Premier League injury table has Joniesta down to return from injury in a week or so, the extra 10k off the wage bill could be nice timing...

obviously a tw*t but still think think he aint that bad of a footballer, such a shame how many young kids wish to make it pro but cant and some of those with a bit of talent dont realise how lucky they are. he is always going to be trouble and have an unfulfilled life, hope he gets in debt and has to work the rest of his life on minimum wage

Great news! Finally we can all stop talking about him now. Biggest waste of money Ipswich have ever spent.

A £1.5m fee and top earner at the club on £10k wages. The last lingering dreg of a lamentable era of mindless excess.

Not a criticism of the bloke personally. Not his fault that we overspent stupidly on his services. But I'm glad this draws a line once and for all.

Jewell really lost the plot signing this one didn't he? Crazy money.

There is little doubt that he had the ability to be a huge asset. The trouble is that he doesn't seem to have the character or the maturity even at the age of 27.

The club certainly won't be a worse lace now he has finally gone. A truly abysmal signing.

Shame ....really did like him when he played but championship teams cannot carry someone as a "unique" player...AKA JET....everyone needs to be willing to do whatever is required anywhere over the park....so a style of player that couldn't fit in...plus v sadly it looks as though his attitude was horrendous...most of us would do anything a boss said to play in the Town shirt....clearly paul didn't see it that way.......the comment about George Boyd...would have been great to have him at same time but want he on 12k at posh therefore wasn't prepared to take the drop to come and join us?.

Wherever Paul Taylor goes now, I hope for his sake that he does not travel by train - with a scowl like that he will be refused exit from the station as a likely troublemaker.
