Blues and Old Firm Linked With Hibs Midfielder
Sunday, 28th Jun 2015 10:13

Town are keen to sign Hibernian midfielder Scott Allan but face opposition from Celtic and Rangers, according to a report in Scotland.

The Daily Record says the Blues are targeting the 23-year-old, who has previously been widely linked with the Ibrox side - the club he supports - while SPL champions Celtic are also believed to be long-term admirers.

Glasgow-born Allan joined Dundee United when aged 10 and, following a loan spell at Forfar, broke into their side in 2011/12. Soon after making his breakthrough he was linked with a move to the Blues.

He moved on to West Brom for £300,000 in December 2011 after turning down the offer of a new contract with the Terrors, having made only four starts and five sub appearances while at Tannadice.

The Scottish U17 and U21 international was a Baggies player for two years but was unable to force his way into the first team and spent time on loan at Portsmouth (twice), the MK Dons and Birmingham City.

Having made only three starts and four sub appearances during a season-long stint at St Andrew’s, West Brom released him and he joined Hibs last summer.

Allan, who has been a type 1 diabetic since he was a child, impressed back in Scotland and was named the SPFL Championship Player of the Year. He made 37 starts and five sub appearances during 2014/15, scoring twice.

In November 2010, while with Dundee United, Allan was charged with assault following an incident in Glasgow in which two men were hospitalised and three men were later convicted, but the charges against him were dropped due to insufficient evidence.

The playmaker has a year left on his deal at Easter Road and has previously been valued at £400,000.

Having sold Tyrone Mings to Bournemouth for an initial £8 million earlier in the week paying a fee of that magnitude would no longer be beyond the Blues.

Speaking earlier in the week, Allan said he was ignoring the speculation about his future, but admitted that a return to English football would appeal at some point: “Obviously in the future I would like another chance down there.

“But for me right now it’s all about kicking on next season and doing better than I did last year. I have got a year left and nothing has changed.”

I like the sound of this rumour, if it happens it would be a very positive signing

Shoyls be an exciting couple of weeks in the transfer market for us now. Having money to spend should open quite a few more doors.

Decent player. The type of player we need, but goal scoring record no better than Tabb. Would however be a good addition to the squad.

Wouldn't have thought central midfield was an area we were looking to strengthen especially not a goal scoring one

Dropped or not, assault charges point to this being unlikely. He won't go celtic if he supports Rangers. I dont see us adding him, on the whole not a fan of signing players from the Scottish league. I'm fairly sure Long Stratton old boys could pick up reults up there.

That said i know nothing about the chap so hope he comes and proves me wrong if we do sign him.

Expect us to be linked with every Carlos Kickaball now we have the Mings money

Hear we go, silly season has started! Now with a bit of cash sloshing about linked to every Tom,dick and Scott! Not bothered about this, can't see how town compete with his boyhood team in Rangers, even if they are in the poop.

Even with £8m in the bank we're still shopping in the bargain bucket...

If you look at the championship and the sides with decent midfield players then i would be targeting brentfords central midfield play makers. Bolton also had a lad who was unbelievably good when they played us at our place ,if your buying then buy proven hungry players that take us a few steps upwards.

Watched his highlights in YouTube and he's a tidy player!! I know YouTube highlights are designed to make people look good, but he's creative and has a good set piece delivery. Think in a better team he would probably be able to score a few more goals too.

Two words Ryan Stevenson! another scottish player who has played in the south and not done well before moving back to scotland and finding his level. OK he's a little older now but still only 23 yo so might miss friends/family etc so maybe better for him to stay in scotland and play for celtic or rangers if he gets the chance.

He is a damn good play and would improve us with also an unknown to others so they don't know what he can do a risk yet but we all know that champ wages are comparable to scot prem and might by playing in England to be closer to the prem leagues radar id like him but its just a rumour

Just to also say he has already recently dismissed moves to rangers and celtic but is open to a move south at some stage so you never know if the option is there id say go for it it adds some depth and we cant moan about adding depth to our side we lacked a bit last year.

He is playing the equivalent standard to league one and got player of the season! I don't understand how some people are so narrow minded! Yes it's a rumour but I would rather sign someone like him than an out of favour premier league player

Young, runs at goal with the ball and has an eye for a forward pass!!! What's bad about that ?

quite right lets hope it turns out to be more than a rumour at least it shows ME is allowing MM to open the purse strings a little give em a break everyone would still like Nathan Byrne as well or is that me being greedy 1.5 million for the 2 RB and CM then we have a good team, And in response to the mings transfer look at the 12.5 mill for clyne and 15 mill for coalman that looks and even better deal as gestede is only valued as 8 mill

Very impressed by the 1st goal. A magnificent crisp strike from a yard out that would have beaten any keeper in the world. Exciting stuff.

I would prefer someone who has played in our league or the prem and who is highly rated even if it costs a decent fee. No point in stumping up 400k on this guy who may or may not be able to cope ......
