Murphy Signs New Deal
Wednesday, 15th Jul 2015 14:42

Town striker Daryl Murphy has signed a new two-year deal with the Blues, effectively ending the speculation regarding his future.

Rumours that the Irish international, the subject of much transfer speculation this summer, had extended his stay with the Blues began to circulate on the TWTD Forum last night.

Murphy previously had a year to run on the contract he signed last July, with the club having an option for a further season. The new deal takes the 32-year-old through to the end of June 2017. We understand the club again has an option for a further year.

“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract,” Murphy told Ipswich Player HD.

“All summer I have heard the rumours and seen the stories in the papers and I’ve had my family and friends ringing me and asking me what’s going on.

“I kept telling them I wasn’t going anywhere and not to believe everything they read in the papers.

“I was just trying to enjoy my holiday. I knew that I’d be here at Ipswich when I came back for pre-season and I’m just pleased now that it’s all out of the way.

“I have always said I’m happy and settled here and that has never changed. I have never thought about moving and now, having signed a new contract, I can put all that speculation talk to bed and look forward to the new season.”

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Giovani Dos Santos, 26, has joined MLS champions LA Galaxy on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Villarreal.

Best thing I've read on here for weeks now and all done nice and quietly out of the public eye. Well done to all concerned.

Brilliant news! All of our strikers are capable of scoring 10-15 goals next season. Choice of four lethal strikers, we could never sell him, especially to a direct promotion rival!

Thankfully this little episode has been put to bed. It makes absolute sense - financial and footballing - to reinvest a little of the Mings money in securing last season's top scorer, which is what I would presume to have happened.

Now - Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday - kindly go away. Now. There is nothing to see here. There hopefully will be plenty to see when you see the back of Daryl's shirt as he wheels away in celebration after scoring against you.

"Anonymous money man" Marcus Evans puts team first. Excellent news all round. Well played all those involved.

Even if we have spent some of the mings money, I think it would have cost alot more to replace him, with no guarantee of finding the right player

Great news. Well done to all involved. Great to see there is loyalty still in the game. Fire us to promotion now Daryl. Think Mick is building something here that we will all be glad of long term.

Best news of the summer so far. We are so reliant on him for not just goals but ball retention and approach play.

From my perspective this is the best way to use a fragment of the Mings money !

Oh, ok then... we'll just have to keep him and try and make the best of what we can with him, McGoldrick, Sears and Pitman then, won't we... :)

COYB.

Absolutely fantastic news. With the resurgence of henshall and the signings of fraser and maitland Niles Murph will recieve better service from wide areas, il bet now he's good for 20 goals again next season!!!

Heeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyy Daryl Murphy!
Oooooo Aaaahhhhh!
I wanna knooooooowwwwww
How you scored that Goal!
2 3 4 5 6 7 8...

Top news from a top man! Absolutely adored by us the fans, yes he scored a shed load of goals, but he has worked his socks off from the minute he arrived on loan the first time!
Not always been smooth for him but I genuinely think Mick (And the TC strikers academy) have genuinely benefited him!
In the Ireland starting line up regularly, why would he want to change the best part of his career (I make no apologies for that statement).

And with 3 very good Championship (and maybe slightly better) strikers fully fit for the season?

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!

Brilliant news. Murph comes across as having a real affinity to ITFC. It's also genuinely refreshing that this has been sorted quickly.
